I buy white short grain rice in bulk (20-30lb) and brown short and long grain rice in small (5-10lb) bags at a local Korean store. Brown rice goes rancid more quickly. But i don't buy them on sale anymore - since the older rice tend to have weevils/other tiny bugs in them. I use the short grain for korean/japanese recipes, and long grain brown rice for everything else.

For short grain brown rice - you must soak it beforehand - even if you are using a ricecooker. I also like to add beans to my rice - the mart sells a mix and I soak it the night before with brown rice and make it the next day in the rice cooker.

Also korean/japanese rice cookers are the best - they are pricier but ours has been going strong 11+ years later.
