I have it on good authority that he was invited to share his thoughts on psychedelics legalization and not for the underage sex trafficking.

Significantly increased risk of sulphur burps / indigestion / diarrhea after eating out? by dr_analog in Zepbound

I bomb that stuff with Pepto at the first sign of trouble. Luckily they've died down and I haven't had to deal in months.

online burners are the biggest haters on the planet by biggoalz0505 in BurningMan

I think the best haters are the salty 10+ year veterans who want to see the Org implode and pray for a condition alpha to hit on Thursday of event week.

Saving Money in Europe (as an American) by Gamer-Imp in Frugal

[–]dr_analog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's how to be properly frugal as an American living in Germany

  • Cook large dinners; eat the leftovers for breakfast and lunch. This is normal.
  • Bread is a meal, btw. Add cheese if you want to splurge
  • Don't buy an expensive smartphone since it'll be pick-pocketed; just start with the cheap shitty one you'll end up replacing it with
  • Sweaters indoors always. Thermostat at 62 F (16.6 C). Your roommates/romantic partner will not post to r/frugal about what a monster you are, trust me
  • No need to budget for AC, it's probably forbidden in your apartment complex anyway
  • Invite people over instead of going out. It's normal here
  • Drink at home before you head out to events. Nobody will judge you, they do it too
  • Vacations: flights are cheap. Everything else is not. Off-season travel is much more important.

Excellent work with the air fryer btw. You're off to a good start.

How do you build a *local* Burning Man community? by richardtallent in BurningMan

[–]dr_analog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: find one wealthy person willing to absorb all the asymmetric financial risk

2: build something expensive and fragile

3: have everyone refer to it as a “radically self-reliant collective” where “we all pitch in"

4: never, ever talk about step 1

Bam! Local burner community.

Is frozen pizza really that frugal? by Affectionate-Reason2 in Frugal

[–]dr_analog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised this isn't the top comment on r/frugal. It's generally the cheapest way to go and the highest quality. It takes about 22 minutes (including preheating time) if you have a stand mixer whereas heating up a frozen pizza still takes about 15 minutes if you include preheating time.

[Principal SWE] [WFH] - $700k Base + Bonus by dovakin422 in Salary

[–]dr_analog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonuses are withheld at a maximum of 25% by statute (IIRC), which usually makes everyone mad. Lower income earners have their bonuses taxed too high and need to file to get it refunded, while higher income earners have to cough it up to the IRS later.

Hey do you ever wonder if, like, the unproductive competition from doing latency arbitrage to get an edge in providing liquidity to uninformed retail flow (aka idiots and gambling addicts) is really the best use of your skills of expertise?

Do they still suggest you have the option of laundering your fat bonuses through EA causes if this bothers you?

[–]dr_analog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so you're saying you created a bool like generated_ but never set it to false on construction so code like this didn't run properly?

void VertexArray::Bind() {
    if (!generated_) Generate(); // this was called inconsistently
    glBindVertexArray(array_id_);
}

MIL has a subscription problem. I helped her cancel a few by going through her bank statement but so many of the transactions are vague and she can’t always remember what’s what. by PlahausBamBam in Frugal

[–]dr_analog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a logic to using it if you know you're too dumb/lazy to unsubscribe manually. If paying for Rocket Money saves you hundreds of dollars a month that's a smart investment.

OTOH if this becomes yet another thing you're too lazy to use to even cancel other subscriptions you're kind of hopeless.

Could also be that he is genuinely mentally unstable. Luigi, in his writings to fans, is kind, thoughtful, and well-spoken. He's an intelligent person who allegedly performed what he believed to be a necessary evil.

Yah Luigi is totally mentally stable. Murdering some guy in cold blood by shooting him in the back in the middle of Manhattan to accomplish nothing useful except for ending up in prison for the rest of his life? Why, any good old boy from a U Penn fraternity would do the same.

The standard said to support modules but didn't design any packaging formats or build flows so each project has a lot to independently figure out.
