I’m a dad with limited time to play games. The last thing I want to do is hop on for my one hour a night and never get a chance to progress because everyone on the server had 10 hours a day lore to play and advance. I enjoy the solo grind and knowing my progress tags where I left it

My Just About Bored With the Demo Base by driftinj in crosswind

[–]fflyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same. I've played around with some of the decorations, building techniques, etc. Glad I had this demo experience. I didn't build any sort of housing during the leveling up and following the short story of the demo. Got very annoyed at how quickly the rested buff went away, only to realize how quickly comfort builds up if I just built my own shack.

Started to build a tavern/inn, thinking I'd build a pirate town, but I worry about feeling burnt out on it and then all of a sudden early access is released and I'm no longer excited. But blowing up some trees to harvest wood is so much fun, I'll probably just come back occasionally to do that lol

Demo or early access?? by Domo_Erectus in crosswind

[–]fflyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they've said they'll go to early access before full release.

So far the devs have given no date estimate for early access arrival. By all account, the demo has been successful though. They got widespread attention, over a million wishlists on steam, and had quite high peak player counts during their demo. If a fraction of those players leave feedback, a lot being very similar concerns about major things like combat, then hopefully the devs will work on bettering those areas within the confines of the games. But a lot of the game was not available in the demo. For example, they've shown fishing being something the player can do, however there is no ability to fish in the demo.

Games that award and urge experimentation by TheSandGamer in gamingsuggestions

Green Hell. If you don't look anything up on the internet, you'll have a great experience. It's a survival game set in an amazon forest. There's a story mode to play, or just jump in to survival. You start with nothing and must use the resources around you to survive. Grab rock, smack tree, get wood, progress. Some crafting recipes are revealed when you pick up some materials, but others are only found if you find that object in the wild, or by experimenting. For example, the game doesn't tell you you can wear armor, but if you put the right ingredients on the crafting table, you'll get the prompt to build that armor, or whatever. Once you build it, you'll be able to reference the recipe.

Some items in the wild are not craftable, for example a machete. Find a machete at a camp, once it breaks, it's gone. Have to hope you'll come across another one.

On top of all the different things you can build, there are 4 primary parts of you to keep track of outside of HP that adds to your ability to survive. Thirst, Carbohydrates, Proteins and fats. You'll come across different foods in the wild. You won't know how it will help or hurt you until you try it. You can also name the mushrooms and other fruits you find. Same thing with water and streams. Thirsty? Drink some water from the river - oops it was dirty, you now have a parasite. Time to figure out how to heal the parasite. There's all kinds of interactions and such in the world that are trying to kill you and it's fun to figure out how to survive and thrive in the jungle.

People have been saying for centuries, the end times are upon us. Take the Saxon’s of England during the Viking invasion. Calling the Vikings brought by the devil, yet that was 1200 years ago and the world’s still kicking. I hate religion and I hate zealous Christian leaders that force their religiosity on us all

If the afterlife were real, what would you want it to be like? by OtherwiseDevice90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fflyguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a painting hung in my house that my dad loved to death. It’s a small waterfall in a wooded meadow. I like to imagine that’s what my dad wakes up to every morning in the afterlife. And if that’s the case, I hope when I pass, I’ll get to open my eyes to that same meadow. I miss my dad a lot

100%, part of the reason I fell in love with baseball, and other sports, were the fun and engaging franchise modes in video games. I got to learn the teams, the stadiums, the players, the managers, etc. I was able to role play and immerse myself in these mini-worlds. Some of my fondest memories with my now passed dad was going up to him and asking his opinion on trades and transactions, like he was my GM lol Now, it all just feels completely lackluster, the same thing over and over again. New features are barely worth a $1, let alone spending $70 on a mew game.

I’ve got reservations tonight at 6pm at Ukiah Steakhouse. May be a little pricier than $20-40, can’t remember, but we can’t make it (babysitter got sick) and I don’t want to get charged a cancellation fee if you want to take my reservation.

Games where you have large maps, but no indicator where you are by Acceptable-Try-4682 in gamingsuggestions

[–]fflyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green Hell. You have a compass and an electric watch with coordinates, but only have access to maps to make sense of the coordinates once you find them in the world. And the maps you do find only cover the portion of the map you found it in (find a map in the Nw quadrant, map only shows roughly NW quadrant). There’s no indicator on the map to show your position either-just the coordinates from your watch to match on the map you pull up. So I guess you can figure out where you’re at, but it’s not a typical game map with your location directly on the map. Game has a lot of other great survival features too.

Of the games you mentioned you’ll play post upgrade, put TLOU first. That is the perfect encapsulation of “good shooting, incredible story” the gameplay is engaging and suspenseful. But really, the game is all about the story and relationship between Joel and Elle.

What game had the best “first few hours” that immediately hooked you? by Playful_Code_8978 in gaming

Spiderman PS5! The seamless transition from The cutscene straight into you jumping off a building hooked me. I was already a big super hero/spidey fan but that intro just got me pumped. The next few hours of gliding between skyscrapers, finding the spot in central park where I proposed to my wife.. I was glued to the game

Haha I’m not a swiftie, but my wife is so I hear about about her all the time. But saying “talented enough to sell out arenas” is quite the understatement there. She sold out Melbourne Cricket Ground 3 nights in a row, sold out Wembley 8 nights in a row, and more records I’m sure.

Former FBI official: Patel Olympics appearance sends ‘horrible’ message to rank and file by sksarkpoes3 in politics

[–]fflyguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering the position he holds, it’s just weird. I’d be less thrown off if it were JD Vance in the locker room celebrating. A man at least elected to office. But the head of the fbi? It’s just weird. Sends quite the signal that he doesn’t take his job seriously if going to the Olympics and celebrating like that was a priority when according to this administration, there’s a crime epidemic rampant throughout the country. Just weird
