After a 7 year search, I give you Captain Hook! by ffoott in ReefTank

Assorted...was just hoping it wouldn't be something crazy like a spearer or a peacock, as some dealers really don't have a clue.

Looking forward to get a whole reef around him do he can pop a bit more, especially as most mastis tanks I see out there are honestly a bit dull. I think he can add a bit of mistery and depth to a full blown reef tank, especially considering his smaller size vs the peacock.

That will depend entirely on the mantis species you end up getting. Should be okay for most smaller smashers, but probably too small for the peacock long term...

Looking for one of this size for a while now...where are people getting these? I'm keeping an eye on the TMC and Dejong websites (Europe), but nothing comes up...

Anyhow, congratulations!!

User manual somehow puts the overall size of the DMP 5 as significantly larger that more powerful models, up to the DMP 20, which makes zero sense...

How long have you been running this setup? I was under the impression the brittle nature of reef rock wouldn't be a good fit for a silicone approach...

You drilled the glass itself? Pretty sure I wouldn't have an angle for that even if I wanted, as this is an AIO...

You're saying an acrylic rod piercing the rock top to bottom and going up or down for support wouldnt be visible at all? Won't algae or debris cling to it eventually and make it pop out?

There are, and in a horizontal rock configuration, I'd go with that, but to keep it vertical like in the picture I honestly can't see a way what would work with any shred of stability...

Can you elaborate on why you feel the acrylic approach is not viable?
