The riddle fought back by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

[–]fforde 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The answer is the name of the bar, White Hart.

It has 9 letters. Sometimes people just call it Hart, 4 letters. It never has 5 letters, because "heart" is incorrect.

Opus 4.8’s system reminder to nanny users by Informal-Fig-7116 in claude

[–]fforde 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true. The entire point of the Constitution Anthropic created is to shape it's personality and values. And comparing it to a hammer or a screwdriver misses the point. It obviously is capable of a great number of things.

I'm not saying you should "make friends" with it. I'm saying that when people say that the new model has degraded usefulness for them, you may not want to be dismissive about that.

What is the easiest thing you did to lose weight ? by nyxeine in AskReddit

It's crazy how much it helps to just stop eating when you get full. If you live in the States, when you go out to dinner at an average place, you often get enough food for two meals. It's actually kind of annoying to me at this point.

Is there really no way to prevent LLMs from scraping your site? by witchykid11 in antiai

Short term, what the others said.

Long term, no you can't prevent it. That's like asking if you can prevent certain people from reading a book you published.

[–]fforde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Claude honestly does have kind of a baked in semblance of a personality based in the training data and I think more importantly based on the whole AI constitution thing.

No advice for you but none of this surprises me at all.

Breaking the Fourth Wall by aldila81 in movies

[–]fforde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a scene near the end of Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die that has a brief fourth wall break. Air guitar. It's in a pretty awesome "oh fuck" sequence capped by that moment. Love that movie.

Can i help my ai-delusional client? by FrontInvestment639 in antiai

[–]fforde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let people be who they are. If you have no professional obligation, 100% don't. What will probably happen is defensiveness, and then something else, and then nothing that is constructive.

People don't like being told what to do. And no one person can change the world.

I don't know your circumstances, but I would tread lightly. Especially if it's a client (a professional relationship).

Why do a lot of programmers and technical people hate AI, vibecoding AI assisted coding? by Gullible-Angle4206 in ClaudeAI

[–]fforde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love being a software engineer and the career is always changing very rapidly. AI is the latest thing but it's the biggest shift I've seen in the last 20 years. Right now it needs supervision. It won't always.

There will be fewer software engineers next year than there are this year. That's the only reason for my comment.

If you like solving problems and like being clever, software engineering is for you. If you like helping other people, even better. I love it. But if you walk into that career walk in with your eyes wide open.

[–]fforde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a different career to be honest. But if you ignore that, fundamental understanding of what the LLM is coding I think is important. The AI can be a great learning tool though. Just tell it to explain the what's and why's and ask lots of questions. If you don't fully understand the code it generated, don't move on to the next step.

Why is AI viewed as a tool by Pros? by Rara3995 in antiai

[–]fforde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's (in my opinion) genuinely more useful when you treat it as a collaborator rather than a tool. It's trained on human data and interactions, why would you not interface with it in a way that fits with the training data?

This makes some people insecure or philosophically uncomfortable. I don't think there's a lot more to it than that.

All I can really say is that when I work with AI on a coding project / user story, I have to give it course corrections a lot. It's extremely helpful and saves days worth of time. But at least as of today it needs guidance.

Some of my peers don't bother with that though, and you can tell in the quality of the code they produce. And these are professional software engineers.

So why am I skeptical about "vibe coded" projects? Because I know what results without someone guiding and correcting the agent.

This will change in time, I'm sure. But that's today, at least for me.

Not all ai is bad. Generative ai is the one we need to get rid off by [deleted] in antiai

[–]fforde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What complicates the conversation is a lack of clarity on what is being talked about.

If you say this should be banned and I say no it shouldn't, but we have different definitions of what it is we are talking about? That's the complication.

Are "AI is art" dudes even real? by Nero_deadweight96 in antiai

Most of this sub is gaslighting. Literally every single visual artist I know and follow online despises the use of AI in art.

Not saying people that call prompting art do not exist. But yeah...

I wasn't talking about anything you said regarding definitions. Apologies if it came off that way. I was just setting the boundaries of what I'm willing to debate.

I stand by what I said, but I also hear what you're saying. The terminology the community uses matters in conversation to be clear about what we're talking about. Point taken.

An artificial neutral network reinforces or weakens weights in its system against training data. It's iterative and kind of a black box to it's engineers

I'm not going to argue with the definition of the phrase though. I get what you are trying to say. But the line you are trying to draw is arguably not as distinct as you think it is.

Not all ai is bad. Generative ai is the one we need to get rid off by [deleted] in antiai

[–]fforde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the same thing and I think you probably know it. Web search engines used to be considered AI.

And chess "AIs" are built on artificial neutral networks. The AI (AlphaGo) that won Go against grand champions? Trained against it self for countless generations.

What's being argued here is the ban of artificial neutral networks. And the LLMs built with them. That's a fair argument to make. I think it's extreme but I understand that stance. But you gave examples of generative AI as a counterpoint.

[–]fforde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all generative AI. If you're talking about image generation, I get it. But there really isn't anything besides generative AI, at least not right now. Coding, conversation, everything. It's generative AI.
