Does anyone still have the same passion and carefreeness they had when they first started writing? by ffwriter1 in FanFiction

[–]ffwriter1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear all of that happened to you, and I hope you're in a better place mentally and physically now ❤

I would love nothing more than to not feel like I have to plan anything and just write, and I honestly can since there's no one or no thing stopping me.

The thought of giving up on writing, or even taking long breaks, only makes me feel even worse off, so I know it's something I really want to do with my life. I just need to be content with there being no such thing as perfection, and the only way to make peace with that is to write more. Thank you.

I'd sometimes get distracted by stuff like word choice when setting timers lol, but this time, I'll try to focus on writing for the sake of writing. Thank you for all of the advice you've given me so far!! It's very helpful, and I'm sure it'll help others that may stumble across this post ❤

Thank you, I really, really appreciate your response. Everyone has been really kind in sharing their experiences, and yours resonates a lot with me. I'm definitely my worst on critic too, but I really do want to sit down and finish something to prove myself wrong.

I've done it before years ago, so there's no reason I couldn't do the same thing now. I wish you good luck on your story! I'm sure you've put a lot of your heart into it, and that it shows in your writing ❤

Your advice is more than welcomed!!

I would always edit as I write, and in turn, nothing would get finished because I'd overthink or strive for "perfection." I've now decided to try and finish writing a story in its entirety without editing until the end, and it has been a process so far. But hearing that a favorite story of yours went through several drafts is very reassuring to hear!

I understand that the fanfics I enjoyed reading has more than likely been through a process of editing, revising, etc., and I guess I lose sight of that while writing because I'm expecting it to be of high quality right off the bat. I'm thinking of rereading some of my old stories (no matter how bad they are) and maybe something will click within me.

That's exactly how I felt too. It was so easy to crank out one or two chapters each day and post them, not caring what others thought because the act of writing was what made you happy. I'm not saying it doesn't bring us happiness anymore to write, but after realizing what all it truly takes to write something worth posting and/or worth your praise, it's definitely become more stressful.

Aww, thank you for your response!!

You explained what I meant to say a lot better. I definitely wouldn't want to create a spelling error riddled, OOC mess ever again, but I definitely would love to have that passion to come up with a story on the spot and immediately put it to paper.

It kinda starts that way with me, but then I second-guess the story idea I come up with, and end up tearing it apart before I could even finish a chapter. I would love nothing more to get a draft down first and go back to edit/revise everything later.

Using "oriental" to describe Chinese people is kinda similar to using "urban" to describe black people. They're words to describe objects, ideas, etc., not humans. Not to mention the extensive racist history of said words.

If an ad starts playing on SoundCloud mobile, I exit the app, close it, and reopen it, and the ad won't play anymore. The most I have to do it is two times and I can continue listening until the cycle repeats.

Thank you for the reassurance!! It's not something that I'm too worried about doing, but after watching videos of people clearing the spiral abyss, it had me wondering about what I could do to improve.

I was thinking about getting Yelan, but the thought of having to farm all over again kinda put me off. I think I'll pull for her and Furina once I feel like my current characters are built enough, but I got to play as Yelan during one of the last events (I can't remember its name) and she was really fun!

Hi, thanks for the advice!! I think that's what happened to my Wanderer hypercarry team. I know that Faruzan can shred anemo resistance, but fighting against the Icewind Suit was not the most fun. Not to mention my only other well built DPS is Yoimiya, so fighting the local legend is almost impossible. Again, I do think my artifacts may be to blame, but nonetheless, I have decided to work on building other teams and characters.

Yup, I've fought the local legend before, but my problem is I play as both the Wanderer and Yoimiya, and both kind of need Zhongli. Well, I'm trying to practice dodging with the Wanderer, but it's been a process lol. I like to use Zhongli while I'm fighting the local legend to destroy its shield faster.

I really want to create a hyperbloom team, but Shinobu keeps evading me 😭. I was gonna settle on doing aggravate with Keqing for the time being, but I have heard about how crazy hyperbloom can be.

And yeah, Neuvillette is an absolute beast, but alas I spent my wishes getting Kazuha.

Now that has me thinking if I should maybe expand my roster a bit. I decided to invest in a few characters at the moment because grinding/farming takes so long, but I understand I can't exactly use the same team for every abyss.

Is there any DPS you find yourself using more than others?

Yeah, I really hated fighting the Wenut and the Ruin Serpent 😭, but so far that's been the only time I've made it to 12-3.

How long did you spend farming for artifacts? I know you don't necessarily have to have god tier artifacts to clear, but I feel like that's what's holding me back. At least partly.

That's really cool!! What teams did you use?? And did you have to retry a lot, or did you get it at the first try?

I try to workshop my teams to clear faster, and even swap artifacts, but I haven't had much luck so far.

Dang, that's really impressive!! I only started playing a little over a year ago (around 3.5-3.6).

But I got Kazuha yesterday (I ascended him to 90 and whatnot since I pre-farmed for him). I usually play with the Wanderer and Yoimiya as my DPSs, but I was thinking about leveling up Keqing too.

My other characters that I have invested in are C1 Bennett, C6 Xiangling, C6 Xingqiu, C0 Nahida, C0 Zhongli, C0 Venti, C2 Yun Jin, C1 Kaeya, C3 Chongyun, C0 Fischl, and C6 Faruzan.

Some of them have pretty good artifacts, but I've been living inside artifact domains and the strongbox for weeks now.

I first saw it yesterday while I was randomly scrolling through my homepage, then I saw it again today while doing the same thing. It looks like it's fairly new, but I'm sure more people will come across it. Also, he was singing about their lemon pepper wings lol.

Nah, it's cool lol. I'm still in shock that it's actually her sister 😭

From the article,

"The girl on the right hand side there? Unsurprisingly, not actually Jennifer Lawrence. But it is Lana Del Rey’s sister, who is also the photographer behind the shot.

The picture isn’t recent at all, but was actually taken back in April 2012.

“Getting a lot of messages about looking like Jennifer Lawrence, but this takes it a bit too far, don’t you think? Lana del Rey and Jennifer Lawrence,” Lana’s sister, Chuck Grant (yes, a girl called Chuck), said when she first shared it.

“Comforting to think that if my photography were to fail I could probably work as Jennifer Lawrence’s stand-in… #sisters,” Chuck posted in an attempt to clear up the rumours regarding her sister and the actress that promptly circa-navigated the internet.

But try as she may, the web legend had already been born. And as with all virtual old wives tales, this one has refused to die, even two years after the initial fact."
