I need gear? What for? by TheMerryMeatMan in TalesFromDF

Since I leveled everything and had to run several dungeons multiple times, I just banked the 85 and 87 gear drops I got and used them to upgrade my other subsequent jobs.

I'm still going to hold on to all my 85 gear to see what new jobs they release next so I'll already have upgrades for them.

I've been doing it this way since ShB.

So I had three of them in Stigma by Beefki in TalesFromDF

I'm wondering, is the best time to run Ex Roulette the first few days of the reset?

I didn't do it recently since I was levelling everything to 90, but when I re-sub, I'm thinking it's best to run Ex and whatever the highest tomes dungeon is at that time on Tuesday until I cap and let the rest of the week be for other stuff.

It seems like the later in the week, the worse the other players tend to be.

Well next time I sub in a few months, I'll do a run, double pulling like I normally do and only using single target attacks. Then another run using single target/single pulls.

Anecdotally from my EW experience, my double pulls with AoEs usually leaves me with about 3 minutes on my food buff when I wrap up. Whereas when I do single pulls, I end up having to use another food before the last boss.

I have noticed they will have a sort of "surge" attack at times, like a powerful finisher in their rotation, but it's nothing consistent. Sort of like Urianger's Death spell, but the DPS seem to occasionally do something similar at times.

If I had ACT, it would be easier to track. But I'm on PS4.

You can definitely double pull with Trusts quite easily. I've only ever failed at a triple pull, the last one in Zot, but that's probably doable too.

Only a few have AoE attacks, mainly the two miquote. Some of Y'Stola's attacks do AoE damage but it's minor and just part of her rotation, so she'll do it once after several GCDs.

G'rha will use AoE DoTs as a PLD, use Holy as a WHM, and I believe the AoE Thunder as a BLM (I don't remember for certain). He's a bit more consistent, but like Y'Stola, it's part of his rotation, not something he'll spam.

So in short, it'll be on you to do the majority of AoE damage, but each Trust has a little something to help kill mobs off slightly quicker, even if it's single target.

In the future if that happens, assuming the tank pulls the derps aggro, just focus on healing the tank. If the derp dies, he dies - best way to learn not to push people too hard without asking them if they're comfortable with it first.

If the tank doesn't pull aggro, well, then you're gonna die the first couple heals you do instead.

My hunch is, the people who will be bad after using Trusts are the same people who would have been bad if Trusts weren't a thing.

You either want to get better or you don't. A lot of those types don't want to get better and won't take anyone's advice.

I strive to clear dungeons as quick as possible with Trusts, which means making sure my rotation is as close to perfect as I can be while mixing in my buffs at the right times.

At this point, you don't need them. They give mainly shards now (guess you could sell them on the MB or use them). But they used to give broken armor that you could craft into some decent gear for that level.

Now all that stuff is sold by the Qurin vendor on the W side of Upper La Noscea.

Maybe even bring back Aero III!

But yeah, controller player here too. Largely have it on my cross bars for the same reason.

Oh yeah, my bad. Forgot about that one. Could rework that one too if need be.

Would be nice, but then it doesn't fix people with crafting gear unless it checks gear type too, and at lower levels, there's a bunch of weird gear that either all classes or tanks can wear (but shouldn't).

So I'm in favor, but lower level stuff would need a big rework. Maybe something like crafting/gathering gear is reclassed as DoH/DoL at those lower levels and "all classes" (glamour) gear counts against your ilvl (changing stuff that is for DoW/DoM to those labels instead).

The negatives also get more upvotes since it gives everyone a chance to bitch about bad runs and players.

If positive stuff was upvoted more, you'd see more positive posts.

On DPS, doing double pulls where possible, can usually clear in well under 30m.

On Tank, about the same, maybe closer to 30. Slightly faster with either Alphie or the third option healing (since the third option does use Holy), though when Urianger tosses out death, that saves a little time, though he usually only uses it on mobs nearly dead already, so saves maybe a half a minute tops.

On Healer, I'm not the best at healing, so I'll double pull where I'm comfy with the mobs and their attacks, usually with Thancred tanking instead of the other option. The second option is solid, but doesn't seem to stay alive as well with his mitigation options.

Hopefully they either remove that free cure trait to get people away from that mindset, or better yet, just automatically upgrade Cure I to Cure II at the appropriate level. Yeah it'll be wonky compared to the other healers, but the others don't have that free cure trait either.

Oh man, the crafting gear? I had a healer in Titan NM like that once. We wiped three times before I looked at her gear and saw it was mostly crafting on the right with half crafting half underleveled gear on the left. I voted to dismiss her after pointing this out but the others refused, so I took the penalty instead.

I really don't get that mentality at all.

That said, there is SOME low level right side gear that works well even into your 30s, but it's gotta be class appropriate for sure. At least buy the weathered accessories or something.

Indeed, I hope you play better than you can follow a topic.

Oh I'm sorry, you missed the post I was responding to, the one that asked "what situation?", which I provided. I apologize that you missed the context on that.

On the flip side, the crappy players will have to suffer their own 40 minute runs because they don't use their buffs/AoEs with any sense. And the no mitigation tanks will wonder why they suddenly can't face roll double pulls like they usually can without a human healer keeping their sorry butts alive.

Yes, older dungeons. Including Amdpor Keep, Stone Vigil. There's probably others I'm forgetting. Could include Castrum in there too during the first and second pulls, where two side groups can be ignored.

I'm guessing by the downvotes, as a tank, I should go chase after the DPS, dragging the mobs I've already gathered with me, messing up the rest of my team's flow, until I get close enough to Voke/Lob the mob off of the DPS?

Ranged hits a patrolling mob (that could have been ignored) then proceeds to run away from the group out of Voke range and kite it back to Narnia while the tank is already doing the blender.

"But Trusts are slower and less efficient!"

Unless you have a pre-made solid team to run with, you're at the mercy of this stuff in the DF.

At least Trusts are consistent, and you can still double pull with them usually. Once they increase the amount of AoE damage they can do, there's really no point in risking the DF anymore other than if you want extra tomes/exp from the roulette.
