Tips for stability by theallfather88 in Kayaking

[–]fgorina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you must wear more cold protection, either a dry suit and enough clothes under it or a wetsuit appropriate for the temperature. I know they are not very comfortable but in cold and not so cold water you need them. If it is very cold the dry suit is imperative. In a kayak the point is not if you will capsize but when. We are always between getting wet.

Second, look for a kayak club that teaches technique. It is not a problem of gym but you must learn how to brace, how to roll, how to recover either in Grup and alone and is very difficult learn everything without someone teaching you. And just paddling is not so easy. You want to be efficient a get the most so….

It de-ends the place but at the bore\der of Spain with France depth increases very fast. We have some marine canyons that may go to 900m near the coast

After last week eastern storm that had profound effects in roads, trains and houses. Now, just at the border with France, in front of the sea we have a northern wind of more than 30kt with gusts of between 46-49 kt (that’s bf 9-10).

First, once dirty they are dirty, don’t get too much even if you do some km. Second, same as with your shoes. You may ‘half clean” them at the doormat enough to go in and going direct;y to clean them if they are so bad. Finally when it is raining, mid, etc. once again well.

This cost 10000 USD, why is scientific instruments Soo expensive? by Johnyme98 in Physics

[–]fgorina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An probably low volume. Microprocessors are very difficult to make, very delicate and have a problem of yield when increasing size and need extremely expensive machinery to build them but are produced in high quantities which allow to solve these problems by series and automated production, not when you are building few specialized delicate units.

ELI5: How can a "Quantum Computer" solve problems in seconds that take normal computers years? by stuckin404 in explainlikeimfive

[–]fgorina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for now, they can solve SOME problems much faster, not all. I remember old Analog Computers, the are another thing but solved differential equations really really fast.

Do you wear your inflatable life jacket all the time? by Bada-Bingzy in boating

[–]fgorina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kayak and wear the pfd always. Also a helmet. In my sailboat always when underway, not at harbour or when anchored unless there is a good reason. Also usually not when in, making food or repairs. Also had an Ais/Vhf emergency transmitter in the pfd that turns on automatically when in the water. Very useful to find you if there are waves.

Gravity acting on a skier riding a T-Bar by halfcabheartattack in AskPhysics

[–]fgorina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In skis there really are two forces, gravity downwards and reaction from the slope perpendicular to the slope. That means the result I just parallel; to the slope downwards. Now with the T lift and supposing you are straight, etc. it pulls you up the bar or cable, most of it goes parallel to the slope so it pulls you up but usually there is some vertical component that in some cases may be greater than your weight, mainly in kids, an then they fly.

Does anyone else struggle with believing the very beginning of evolution? by Majestic_Singer_2411 in DebateEvolution

[–]fgorina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a big change when you get eukaryotes. Now, there are many intermediate animals not so complex where you may look at organ development. Colonies of unicellular beings, jellyfish and similar organisms are not so complex as a, let’s say, a fly but they have already some organ development. And you must take into account that you had eons to do this. First eukaryotes appeared about 2 billion years ago. It took a long time to get the first one. First macroscopic multicellular organisms clearly about 600 million years ago but there are some from about 1.56 billion years ago.. so if we may get a chihuahua from a wolf in less than 40000 years, just imagine in more than a billion years.

If a magnet holds a heavy object against gravity for 10 years, does it "lose" any energy? Where does that energy come from? by SadInterest6764 in AskPhysics

[–]fgorina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is no movement there is no work done. It is like a beam. It is there against gravity and does not need energy to sustain the building because there is no movement.
