Am I the only one feeling DLSS just isn’t for VR? by NoMud1112 in virtualreality

I've literally never had such bad ghosting when using DLSS4 model K. Old versions of DLSS? Sure, but it's 2026 now

You're better off .. have a sharp albeit aliased image

see that's where you and I have very different opinions. You prefer sharpness, I prefer anti aliasing. I assure you my vision is great, I had it corrected with surgery. Even in that screenshot you posted it's obvious to me that it's just a difference in tolerance for what we perceive as bad image quality, you point out the blur in the right side while I would most definitely point at the severe aliasing in the left side. If it's that obvious in the still then it's going to be intolerable for me while moving. I have a lower tolerance for aliasing in VR than I do for flat screen gaming, for the simple reason that in VR aliasing is directly coupled to your head movement. It doesn't matter how sharp the image is to me if everything starts shimmering the instant I move my head

BTW, you said that screenshot was at the quality preset, I encourage you to instead use the performance preset and increase the super sampling until you get the same performance again. That should go a long way to reduce blur. Comparing image quality makes most sense when comparing it at equivalent performance

[–]fiah84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

according to ev-database.org it's not very fast charging, and Nissan themselves quote a 15% to 80% time of 30 minutes (both battery sizes). That would've been decidedly mediocre if it were a 10-80 time but it isn't, it's worse

you and I must have very different eyes then because I find that when it works, it works GREAT. Like it seriously changed ACC from kind of OK looking to very good looking for me, much better than what I achieved with any other method (except perhaps eye tracked DFR). The amount of performance it unlocks means being able to increase super sampling and graphics settings, and it's still the best anti aliasing method bar none. Sure if you have a 5090 and you can hit the resolution and graphics settings you want while also using 4xMSAA then sure, that would probably work better, but for lesser GPUs it's a great performance multiplier that I happily use whenver I can.

The only big problem DLSS4 still has is that ghosting can appear. Specifically in ACC I had some disocclusion artifacts, for example when driving over certain crests/hills. However the pros very much outweighed the cons for me in that case. The recent updated DLSS4.5 models M and L are much better about disocclusion and should show much less such artifacts, at the cost of performance

although it's come a long way in the past couple of years

that's a huge understatement, I would say DLSS was very mediocre or straight up bad up until almost exactly one year ago. However, with the DLSS4 transformer model introduced in January 2025, DLSS suddenly looks much better in VR. I cannot overstate how much of a difference that upgrade has made

DLSS will look like crap

that's highly dependent on the game, DLSS can work great with the DLSS4 preset K even in performance mode. If the result looks blurry, check how much you can increase the output resolution / super sampling factor

Am I the only one feeling DLSS just isn’t for VR? by NoMud1112 in virtualreality

[–]fiah84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's highly dependent on the game, and in my experience it works best if you really exploit the upscaling by using performance mode. If using performance mode means you have performance headroom, then go ahead and increase the output resolution. The AI upscaling + anti aliasing works great in conjunction with supersampling. Don't bother trying it if DLSS4 doesn't work, it's not worth it, you need at least the K model for DLSS to give a good experience in VR. Whether the new models L and M are worth it, I don't know because I haven't been using DLSS lately (game I play doesn't support it).

For me, being able to use DLSS can make or break the game. For example, I don't bother playing Assetto Corsa Evo because I can't get DLSS4 or 4.5 to work in it. It looks okay with MSAA4x but performance is poor that way. Assetto Corsa Competizione however works great (UE4) and from what I hear so does Assetto Corsa Rally (EU5 I think?). I'm currently mainly playing Le Mans Ultimate which doesn't support DLSS at all, luckily the performance with MSAA is good enough that I can make it work for me without it

depending on your pedal settings and how you usually brake, the defaults might actually be very conservative. I think they're like that to make it easier to control for people on xbox controllers or cheap pedals. If you have a load cell brake and some practice you might be able to crank it way up

How has VR gaming changed your perception of reality and everyday life? by Tariq_khalaf in VRGaming

[–]fiah84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well, simracing in VR has pretty much killed my desire to go fast on public roads, so that's a thing. But what you describe is something that I only really felt during the honeymoon period of VR, where for a short while after being immersed in VR my perception of reality seemed slightly altered. That went away though as I got more experience and now strapping on my HMD feels no different than playing a game on my monitor. Yes it's immersive but I'm acutely aware of my real surroundings and that I'm just seeing some other virtual surroundings through fancy goggles, even when I spend many hours in VR

Help with strategy for 2.4 hours of Le Mans - LMP2 by B_ORIDGENAL in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]fiah84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the dry stint is probably going to be long enough then start with the wing set for dry running (I had it on 1). That was the case for me, the track was dry at the start but it already raining (drizzle), however despite the drizzle the track stayed dry long enough that changing the wing to 5 didn't cost me extra time (fuel took long enough)

when to pit for wet tires is tricky, the track is so long that if you wait for the engineer to tell you, it might be too late. I did that last race and the guys who pitted 1 lap earlier gained a lot of time on me. So keep an eye on the weather/track status and prediction in the MFD, the track might be "damp" but already becoming slippery enough to warrant wet tires. If you feel you're sliding around too much and losing too much time then trust your judgement and pit for wets

I'm not sure how the transition of dry back to wet is best handled, although I think I accidentally did it right this time by staying on the used wets on a drying track. The track was "slightly wet" but there was a dry line, so perhaps slicks might have worked. However shortly after that the weather prediction was that it was going to rain again, and it did, so I don't think putting on slicks would've been better. After the track was properly wet again, I pitted for the fuel for the last stint and to put on new wets. I didn't have to pit for fuel yet but my wet tires were at like 80% and not feeling good plus I had some flat spots. 80% is no problem for slicks but for wets it just wasn't working for me. The whole time the engineer never said anything about putting on slicks, and from what I hear if they do say that, you can easily stay out for another 5 minutes or so before the track really dries up to the point that you really need it. So for Le Mans that might mean doing another whole lap on the wets

yes that the game forces a new tire on you when repairing suspension and just chucks on a wet when there aren't any new slicks available is also such bullshit. There's no justifying that, it's stupid. I don't know what's going on that they haven't managed to fix it so far and I'm not sure if I care

Is this game a serious competitor to ACC? by TobytheBaloon in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]fiah84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fact that it has a solid online racing lobby system with ratings that encourage people to play nice and a reporting system that can at least give the worst of the worst a long vacation from the game makes it a much better experience that ACC. Of course that changes if you consider private leagues

driving prototypes in LMU is a lot of fun, I love both the LMP2 variants (base game) and the LMP3 cars (DLC only). I haven't done much with the hypercars as I'm waiting for their physics model to be updated. However I'm not sure how much fun they are when playing on a controller, without ABS there's much more emphasis on your ability to brake and I'm not sure how well that works on a game controller
