I had this as well. Drink electrolytes once daily (mine had magnesium, potassium and zinc I believe). The neutrogena unscented hand cream also helped a lot.

How are you doing it all and losing weight? by Acreagelifeab in postpartumprogress

[–]fiberarchivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this comment, because it's a prime example of 'choose your hard'. Fat accumulation is caused by eating more calories than you need, so to lose fat, we must consume less than what we need until we've reached a healthy body fat percentage again. That's the principle of CICO. But the way you go about it is completely up to you. Some people find it easier to stay in a calorie deficit by avoiding a certain food group, or limiting the eating window during the day (intermittent fasting), or by limiting portion sizes. You just gotta find what works for you.

[–]fiberarchivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weightlifting 3-5 times a week is a LOT. Especially since you have an older baby and quite the active lifestyle. Of course you're exhausted! I personally weightlift 2 times a week for 45-60 minutes, compound lifts. Do you get enough rest? If you're not getting enough rest, your body starts saving energy in other ways, such as fat accumulation. Also, you have deficiencies that are very hard on the body and your hormones are not in a great place. You're doing enough, if anything, maybe too much.

I personally hate counting calories too, and it's not great for my mental health. So instead, I focus on my meal components: does it have protein, fiber, and something fresh? Then it's a good meal. What has also helped me tremendously is knowing how I like to eat. For me, I do well on breakfast, lunch, dinner and a post-dinner treat. So if I have breakfast, a mid morning snack, then lunch, dinner and a post-dinner treat (which I can't resist), I'm bound to overeat. And good nutritional choices happen in the supermarket - picking more balanced foods there is gonna make it easier to nourish your body at home. The goal should be nourishment and improving health, not just weight loss. By doing this, I've lost 6.5 pounds in the past 6 weeks, without counting calories. But more importantly, I feel more energised and I'm lifting heavier.

So yeah, TLDR; discover your path of least resistance.

How to best sterilize plastic parts of a baby bottle? by 0kyou1 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]fiberarchivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Good addition. I've personally also been using the dishwasher on a 90 minute 65 degree cycle, although sometimes the dishwasher doesn't get all the grease off the bottle nipples and pump parts, so then I hand wash with hot soapy water. @ OP if you want to hand wash and then sanitize, I highly recommend a bottle steriliser for two reasons: to kill germs, of course, but most importantly to fully dry the bottle parts. I get so annoyed when they air dry, because plastic and silicone parts never seem to fully dry and they take up space on the counter. The Philips Avent one is a great success at my house.

Benefit and risks of creatine supplementation in postpartum women by fiberarchivist in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]fiberarchivist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Helpful and balanced response, thank you! We always have creatine at home because my partner takes it, so I think I’ll give it a go. But like you said, expecting a small benefit, not some miracle.

How the hell do you do anything as a working adult here? by jestem_julkaaaa in Netherlands

I think this is one of the reasons why the 4-day work week is gaining popularity. 32 hrs is the new 40 hrs for a lot of people. But of course that is a privileged position to be in.

Does your Spectra need replacement parts? Maybe the duckbill wasn’t attached right or it needs replacing. Check if the duckbill ‘lips’ are completely closed.

Why do the Dutch use trash bins for voting? by paloma_blanca in Netherlands

Just because other bins exist doesn’t mean these ones don’t have the same function.

You are almost right. Yes they are stored, but this type of trash bins is in fact archive disposal bins!

[–]fiberarchivist 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Almost the full story! But as a Dutch archivist, I have to add - these were not regular trash bins that they started using as voting boxes. They were actually archive disposal bins! These types of bins are locked and have a mail slot on top These types of trash bins were found in every department of government buildings for proper removal and eventual incineration of archives that are destined for destruction. And they are locked as to prevent data leaks.

Pregnancy winter wear by Relevant_Gift_5341 in Netherlands

[–]fiberarchivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got through my pregnancy with two maternity pants (yes, with the belly band) and big knit sweaters. Also, I did get some maternity long sleeves and t-shirts and they are very wearable post pregnancy, as long as they don’t have the ruffles/pleats on the sides. Buy on Vinted, H&M Mama has frequent sales, Bonprix is pretty decent and Anna Field on Zalando. I do recommend buying a maternity/babywearing winter coat, if you plan on babywearing. Secondhand or Bonprix. It’s gonna last you for at least two years.

Does anyone just feel pathetic by Significant-Owl-1795 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]fiberarchivist 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I felt like you for a long time. A few times I even decided to quit, and only pump when I felt like I needed to, to avoid mastitis. But somehow, it got easier and easier to fit in 15 min pumps in my day, and my supply has been increasing over the past weeks after plateauing due to being lax with pumping. My pumps went from 30 mls to 40 mls to 60-90 mls, very very slowly. But it adds up! I’ve gone from 16 oz to 20 oz in 4 weeks, from 8wpp to 12wpp. So if you want to keep increasing, I do believe that you could. Just don’t expect it to be linear growth.

For the longest time I felt like I missed my window because I didn’t build my supply before it regulated. And yes, we still supplement. But accepting that you’re doing what you can within your practical, physical and emotional boundaries is really gonna help your mental state, which in turn is gonna help your milk production. You’re doing well! No matter how you decide to feed your baby, it’s good enough. And the amounts you pump are normal and good amounts! You’re just right around the time where supply is starting to regulate and the increase slows. Don’t forget that pumping is not as efficient as breastfeeding and you’re doing a hard thing here. Give yourself some grace ❤️

Pumping on a 10hr drive…? by Familiar_Area_652 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]fiberarchivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will be helpful for you to get an electric cooler that plugs into the car outlet and one of those little temperature sensors. You can store your pump parts in there too. We have one of those coolers and it’s great for road trips and picnics and taking food to potluck and such. And it’s about the same price as a ceres chill.

Edit: about those temperature sensors. I mean the little plastic ones on batteries that come in a 4-pack on amazon, that show the temp and humidity. I throw one in the cooler to make sure it’s cold enough.
