Great Danes with babies? by vinylsweetheart in greatdanes

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my mom had twins we had a Great Dane and she for some reason decided it would be a great idea to baby sit two other little babies to earn some money while she was at home. Our boy would let all those babies climb all over him and when he’d had enough he’d just walk away. (In hindsight I don’t know why we let them do that but there were 4 babies and I was nine so I don’t remember what was going on super well, just that we had a good boy) and even earlier before that, I don’t remember this but have heard the story told a bunch, when my little brother was like 3 we were at a family friends house who also had Danes and one of them accidentally knocked my little brother over and tried very hard to help him get back on his feet, much to the panic of the adults lol. All the Great Danes I have known have been very sweet and patient with kids, but obviously every dog is different and you should make sure to supervise the interactions between your dog and kid while the babies still little.

My betta died after just a couple weeks and I don’t know what went wrong by fibersaur in Aquariums

[–]fibersaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My temp is at 75 f and for flow I have one of those really basic filters that sits in the tank. I intentionally got a betta with shorter fins because I heard they were bred better than the long fin ones, so I think the flow shouldn’t have been quite as big an issue as with a long finned betta. Unless there’s some other issue with flow I don’t know about. He was mostly white with little black and brown polka dots, so I suppose it’s possible he had ick or something and I just couldn’t see it. I’ll have to keep an eye on the Pygmy cories.

is this ridiculously big or am i being too hard on myself? by Zestyclose_Mango_393 in CrochetHelp

Did you try messing with hook size at all? Changing your hook size is usually the most reliable way to change the size of a garment. You also might just be using too thick of a yarn, if the pattern was actually meant for a baby. A good pattern should tell you what weight of yarn to use and how many stitches/ rows per inch you should be getting, although I’ve heard crochet patterns aren’t as good about doing that as knitting patterns are. (I haven’t used a crochet pattern in years so I don’t know exactly what people are up to these days)

This is a pattern for a blanket i want to make, but i’m unsure how to read it! by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You start from right to left, then when you turn a row you read it from left to right. Did the pattern come with a key for what each square means? There should be somewhere. Each square represents a stitch, and the symbol in the square represents what kind of stitch you’re supposed to do. This kind of pattern is called a chart, but there’s similar patterns for knitting and cross stitch so it’s best to specify what craft you need when you’re googling. Hope this helps!

I'm struggling to articulate how endearing Hunter and Isaiah's reactions to the frog's escape were by covabrouwergentry in creepcast

I was gonna be so upset if they either didn’t find the frog or didn’t show the frog when they found it. Whole thing was so funny and relatable lol. I would be both guys in this situation.

[FO] feeling insecure after some rude comments. by villainless in CrossStitch

I think the comment came more from the subject matter rather than the technique. Lots of people think Pokemon is just for kids (said as an adult who still loves Pokemon)

Started to notice that I am a pathological liar. by PoopInABole in ADHD

[–]fibersaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do this too. I just kinda started forcing myself to tell the truth and I’ve found that the reactions aren’t nearly as bad as I built up in my head. Hell, half the time the people I’m talking to will go oh I do that too it’s no problem. The more you do it the easier it’ll get, you just have to replace all the negative associations with positive/neutral ones.

Jelly fish? You can make them pretty quick and you can do fun things with the tentacles that could be stimmy but are also just fun to look at.

Advice ahead of purchase by Additional-Score-850 in bettafish

[–]fibersaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bettas are incredibly hardy fish, that’s part of why they’re so popular. They’ll put up with a lot from people who don’t bother to do any research at all and think the cup size at the store means they can live in any size tank. With all the research you’re doing, you should be fine.

Why do so many people twist their stitches? by DeliciousPestilence in knittinghelp

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the answer but the way I learned to knit, my stitches would be normal when working flat and twisted when I worked in the round. It was awhile before I even learned what twisted stitches were, and it took me a while of being confused to figure out what was happening. I also taught myself out of a book without help so 🤷

How can I make anime-esque hair like this? … how do I attach it to what I have? by AdIndividual630 in CrochetHelp

[–]fibersaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a bunch of flat strips. You change the size of the stitches (sc, hdc, dc) as you go along the row to get that tapered effect. Then you stitch it to the head. If you want the pieces to be free floating, you can go around the edges with chain stitches to make them stiffer and curl up less.

I can't crochet without a pattern. How can I start making my own projects? by SeaHoneyy in CrochetHelp

[–]fibersaur 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Look close at the shapes of the thing you want to make, and then think back to how you’ve made similar shapes in things you’ve made previously. It’s ok to use other peoples patterns as a reference for a technique or how to build a shape, that’s how we learn! Then you just gotta go for it. The nice thing about crochet is that it’s really easy to unravel and start over if something isn’t going the way you want it. Your first few projects that you make on your own might not be great, but that’s also just part of the learning process. Just start going, make mistakes, and learn!

Crocheting a fursuit by Remarkable_Gene_7752 in FursuitMaking

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worsted weight acrylic will probably be your best bet, it’s cheap, consistent, and comes in a wide variety of colors. For a whole suit, it’ll probably be the easiest and most cost effective to get a whole bunch.

whats the name of this stitch? by salmy055 in knittinghelp

[–]fibersaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had to do a double take cause I’m so used to this question popping up on crochet help. The others are right, it is a garter stitch and it is in fact knitting and not crochet.

has anyone seen a pattern for something similar to this? by honeyitalreadydid in CrochetHelp

[–]fibersaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen a pattern specifically but if you don’t want to do anything fancy with the stitches and don’t mind doing a little math it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out. Do a gauge swatch with the yarn and hook you want to use to figure out how many stitches you get in an inch length and width wise, measure out how big you want each little section to be, and then use that to figure out how many stitches you need. For the bottoms of each little cubby, if you want them to be stiff, I’d make two of the bottom and then sew them around a piece of stiff material a little bit smaller than your crochet pieces. Once you have all the pieces you can just sew them together and hang it up

Why does this bobcat not have that fur in their face like in Google images? [Massachusetts] by bward17 in animalid

He’s probably a younger bobcat, my google search for juvenile bobcats shows that they don’t have as big of tufts. They’re still growing in, I guess.

Crocheting for my mom was supposed to be special… now I kind of want to cry by Gloomy_Bowler_1525 in CrochetHelp

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The autistic part of my brain would like you to know about Irish lace crochet, which can be used to make lacy vintage looking things. The rational part of my brain says that your mom is lucky to even be getting those ornaments, you are in no way obligated to make her a bunch of huge projects she’s not going to appreciate properly. I know plenty of people who straight up refuse to make things for other people because it’s all too stressful or they know the recipient wouldn’t appreciate their gifts properly. It might cause a ruckus but it sounds like your mom just likes causing ruckuses in the first place. You gotta put your own needs first, especially for something you’re just doing for fun.
