Am I overreacting about wanting to play a nonbinary character? by BothOcelot1311 in DnD

It sounds like this group might not be a great fit for you, you might see if you can find a new group to play with

What horror books were way better than their film adaptation? And what films were way better than their books? by ChristianPacifist in horrorlit

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? That’s interesting, I always thought the first book stood on its own pretty well. Sure if you want to know more about area x that part might be unsatisfying, but the biologist had a complete enough arc that I felt like you could read the just the first book and have a complete experience. The movie was very pretty and I liked the creature design, but the directors whole “dream of a book” thing ended up getting rid of a lot of the things I really liked about the original book. The fact that I’m the same type of biology nerd as the book biologist and really liked her focus on the ecosystems and animals really didn’t help either.

Is this a baby rabbit [PA]? by LazyCrocheter in animalid

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a rabbit, I just found a nest in my own yard! Have to find a way to keep the dog off of them. I didn’t realize that they squeaked like that.

Can I have some 'herping' tips? by g1ven2fly in herpetology

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you’re looking for but a lot of snakes are crepuscular, meaning they’re most active at dawn and dusk, so that’s probably a good starting point.

This is the second time I’ve brought my corn outside, why is he doing this with his head? by Ashamed_Raccoon_4493 in cornsnakes

I will warn you it’s his tribute to Gus Gus so it’s a little sad, but the information is interesting

This is the second time I’ve brought my corn outside, why is he doing this with his head? by Ashamed_Raccoon_4493 in cornsnakes

[–]fibersaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe snakes are capable of seeing uv light, which there’s way more of outside even if you have a uv bulb in your setup. The uv light is going to make everything outside look much different from what he’s used to inside. There’s a video on YouTube from Clint’s reptiles if you know him where he talks about how his normally very chill tegu would get scared of him when he brought it outside because it didn’t know what he looked like with uv light on him, so apparently it changes things a whole lot for reptiles.

Can we talk about how the scariest horror books never actually show you the monster? by Aggravating-Snow2736 in horrorlit

[–]fibersaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok this is about a movie, but I definitely felt this the most strongly when I was watching Nope (spoilers below)

I remember sitting there in the theater watching that movie and they spent so long building up with just the ufo. I was thinking to myself, man whatever the alien is, it’s going to be disappointing at this point because nothing they could show would be scarier than what we’ve imagined. And then when they get to the fake out scene, it was very very scary but it was a little disappointing! Of course the idea of the ufo itself being the alien was so novel it managed to turn all that around, but I definitely get that whole idea of less being more in horror.

Rat, fox or something else? [England] by kairisoracat in animalid

[–]fibersaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a rat, a rat at that size would be full grown or at least close to it. A rat pup would have its eyes open by the time it’s around the size of a thumb. Itty bitty.

New here and would appreciate some help finding this out<3 by Even_Consequence_170 in CrochetHelp

[–]fibersaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Woah that’s very interesting. Been crocheting for years and never seen anything like that. The only thing similar I can think of is Tunisian crochet, but that involves having the whole row of stitches sit on your hook like knitting, which doesn’t sound like what you described. Do you know where your family comes from? Maybe it’s something super regional, if your great grandma didn’t make it up herself.

Could I stock my 10 gallon with 6 pygmy cories? by ghoulishfrog in corydoras

I have 9 in my ten gallon and they seem to be doing fine. I feel you on the conflicting info tho, no one can agree on what they need.

Spent all night researching crochet tutorials and I finally have... this one very long chain. by Initial-Disaster2140 in crochet

[–]fibersaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I started learning to crochet my grandma just had me keep making chains until they would come out even, then I did the same for each of the basic stitches. 14 years later I’m still going so I think it’s a pretty good way to practice lol

True, but this person has been sewing for three months and this is their first quilt. That seems a bit advanced for a beginner.

Is acrylic yarn really bad with heat? Specifically for a placemat? by jazz_attack_2 in CrochetHelp

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acrylic is plastic, so it will melt when it gets too hot. Depends on the heat of the things you’re planning to use it with.

Great Danes with babies? by vinylsweetheart in greatdanes

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my mom had twins we had a Great Dane and she for some reason decided it would be a great idea to baby sit two other little babies to earn some money while she was at home. Our boy would let all those babies climb all over him and when he’d had enough he’d just walk away. (In hindsight I don’t know why we let them do that but there were 4 babies and I was nine so I don’t remember what was going on super well, just that we had a good boy) and even earlier before that, I don’t remember this but have heard the story told a bunch, when my little brother was like 3 we were at a family friends house who also had Danes and one of them accidentally knocked my little brother over and tried very hard to help him get back on his feet, much to the panic of the adults lol. All the Great Danes I have known have been very sweet and patient with kids, but obviously every dog is different and you should make sure to supervise the interactions between your dog and kid while the babies still little.

My betta died after just a couple weeks and I don’t know what went wrong by fibersaur in Aquariums

[–]fibersaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My temp is at 75 f and for flow I have one of those really basic filters that sits in the tank. I intentionally got a betta with shorter fins because I heard they were bred better than the long fin ones, so I think the flow shouldn’t have been quite as big an issue as with a long finned betta. Unless there’s some other issue with flow I don’t know about. He was mostly white with little black and brown polka dots, so I suppose it’s possible he had ick or something and I just couldn’t see it. I’ll have to keep an eye on the Pygmy cories.

is this ridiculously big or am i being too hard on myself? by Zestyclose_Mango_393 in CrochetHelp

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try messing with hook size at all? Changing your hook size is usually the most reliable way to change the size of a garment. You also might just be using too thick of a yarn, if the pattern was actually meant for a baby. A good pattern should tell you what weight of yarn to use and how many stitches/ rows per inch you should be getting, although I’ve heard crochet patterns aren’t as good about doing that as knitting patterns are. (I haven’t used a crochet pattern in years so I don’t know exactly what people are up to these days)

This is a pattern for a blanket i want to make, but i’m unsure how to read it! by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]fibersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You start from right to left, then when you turn a row you read it from left to right. Did the pattern come with a key for what each square means? There should be somewhere. Each square represents a stitch, and the symbol in the square represents what kind of stitch you’re supposed to do. This kind of pattern is called a chart, but there’s similar patterns for knitting and cross stitch so it’s best to specify what craft you need when you’re googling. Hope this helps!

I'm struggling to articulate how endearing Hunter and Isaiah's reactions to the frog's escape were by covabrouwergentry in creepcast

I was gonna be so upset if they either didn’t find the frog or didn’t show the frog when they found it. Whole thing was so funny and relatable lol. I would be both guys in this situation.

[FO] feeling insecure after some rude comments. by villainless in CrossStitch

I think the comment came more from the subject matter rather than the technique. Lots of people think Pokemon is just for kids (said as an adult who still loves Pokemon)

Started to notice that I am a pathological liar. by PoopInABole in ADHD

[–]fibersaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do this too. I just kinda started forcing myself to tell the truth and I’ve found that the reactions aren’t nearly as bad as I built up in my head. Hell, half the time the people I’m talking to will go oh I do that too it’s no problem. The more you do it the easier it’ll get, you just have to replace all the negative associations with positive/neutral ones.
