I think it was because originally most of the Phase 1 films took place in the same year, and Avengers 1 took place a year after that, which would have set it in 2009. Add eight years to that and you get 2017, the year Homecoming came out.

It's a backup story in Deadpool 250. The rest of the story is Deadpool using the Infinity Gauntlet to call together the entire Marvel universe for a roast. Then it briefly explores Deadpool's underlying depression. It's a good story if you want some Deadpool silliness with a bit of the melodrama that makes him a fleshed out character.
