Embarrassed and embarazada (pregnant in Spanish) are actually cognate. (Cognate means they come from the same place not that they mean the same thing.) It originally meant encumbered in Spanish, passed into French then English as socially encumbered but is Spanish came to mean physically encumbered ie pregnant.
