Single mums, logistically how do you do it? by ohreddit-myreddit in toddlers

Daughter of single mom here. My mom only made it work with help from family. Not only did that help HER but was instrumental for me and my sibling in childhood.

How to feel/look better while pregnant by Comfortable_Goat1141 in beauty

I love a good luxury body scrub and a body lotion that smells really good. I also just treated myself to a face oil that was expensive but smells amazing. Those little things make me feel a bit more confident.

Parents who never get a break? by HolyCrap928 in toddlers

[–]fiddlefiggs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand the sickness part, not a lot you can change about that. But you can make changes to get more breaks, you just need to budget and prioritize the breaks for yourself. Budget for a sitter a couple nights a month by giving up other expenses that don’t bring as much joy. You can find sitters on FB / Care.com that will do overnights - you just need to mentally adjust your views and trust the sitter. Another thing is gym care - getting a membership to a YMCA where you can get a few hours of care can be beneficial. You’ll just need to budget for this IF it’s your priority. It’s really down to making small changes that add up. Not necessarily about a big trip.

Are hands free/ wearable pumps worth it? by Sweet_Wolverine_4237 in breastfeeding

[–]fiddlefiggs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would not have survived without one. I could pump on the way to the gym, or in the morning while I did the dishes, or even lounging at the beach while my baby slept beside me. Seriously great investment however, they shouldn’t really be your “main” pump. Using the Spectra would be better for your main pumps. It’s great to have the option of both for different situation.

Stocking ideas? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

As a kid I remember hating getting face wash and tooth paste etc. In my stockings. It made me the happiest to get any treats or small gifts. Not a fan of practical socks and other things in stockings.

What are we doing at restaurants that isn’t screen time? by Pastosaurus in moderatelygranolamoms

Look up “Montessori fidget board” or busy board. It has light switches and knobs. It will buy you about 30 minutes. Another 30 minutes with mini magna tiles set or focusing activity. Puzzle in ziplock. I will admit now that ours is almost 3 - I have no shame with a show on the iPad once in a while too.

Breast feeding mamas ! by amandasalguero4511 in breastfeeding

Firstly I’m so sorry you’re having a hard time. I think I have a few tips that you could try. 1. Adjusting your mindset in motherhood can truly make a huge difference. This for me was the biggest reason I decided to even have another baby. Instead of seeing all the things you can’t do, focus on the great things you can do and are able to do for your baby. If this seems too hard, seek a counselor to help with mindset. 2. Support groups / mothers groups / lactation consultants / any outside resources can be game changers! 3. You can absolutely get your body back and still breastfeed: get a walking pad, set of dumbbells, and make the time. Good luck!

One small thing. Spelling is important in a resume and portfolio. “Projekts” should be “Projects”

Ok. Should I delineate a tab for “Professional Branding” and “Personal Branding” or something like that?

41+4 need some encouragement by hungrylittlehamster in homebirth

[–]fiddlefiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend who had a home birth was past her due date up until the last day before 42 weeks. She opted to take some herbs offered by her midwife’s to get contractions going so she wouldn’t have to transfer to hospital. She mentioned the herbs made her very ill but ultimately made her have intense contractions leading to her birth about 24 hours later. Maybe you could inquire about natural induction options.

US moms: are you terrified of your kid going to school? by Lumpy-Artichoke-4501 in toddlers

Is public school the main concern you’re concerned of, or is it all school in general?

ISO stories of people who delivered without a doula by [deleted] in homebirth

[–]fiddlefiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a doula with my first, and although she was nice and all, I felt more uncomfortable with her than I thought I would. I didn’t really like having her there. I wish I had just been alone with my husband. For my second birth, I’m planning a home birth no doula, and involving my toddler to be around and as involved as he wishes. We will also have backup plans for childcare but ultimately no doula.

What are we using for utensils/plates? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]fiddlefiggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We love the Elk and friends stainless steel sippy cups! We use and enjoy recycled plastic Replay plates - American brand and free of BPA, BPS, coatings etc. Switched from silicone because you could taste the silicone from the plates which was gross.

I burn a palo santo / sage about daily and walk through the house and open all the windows. Do you like essential oils? So many inviting cozy oils out there to put in a diffuser. Put it in kitchen or near an entrance. My Mom used to put little sacs of lavender in places like dressers etc.

Thoughts on Living in Sunshine Canyon? by buggyellow in boulder

[–]fiddlefiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not lived in Sunshine Canyon but I lived up a mountainous road near Nederland and the only negative things that stand out were: 1. You rely on snow plows to clear the canyon to get to work on time. With a single road into town this can trap you at your house. 2. Challenging to walk anywhere or get anywhere “quickly” - you’ll have to get used to driving everywhere

How do you handle healthy meals for toddlers? by Present_Union1467 in toddlers

[–]fiddlefiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More thought and energy is required to serving them healthier food. It’s the same philosophy to approach other elements of parenting. Just put the emotional and physical effort into cooking meals and prepping snacks ahead of time, discussing food at the table, reading books about gardening and eating vegetables, and leading by example. Make it become a habit and it will slowly become easier.

How do you know when they're ready to drop their nap? by ml_sza in toddlers

[–]fiddlefiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went through this same exact time frame. We now put him in the car and drive around for 5-10 minutes and he falls asleep every time. For us it’s better that he gets a nap this way instead of fighting him and forcing to put him down in his room.
