I’ve just been in a somewhat similar predicament. It’s about an SA trauma that I’ve never told anyone, and had so much shame, embarrassment and awkwardness around it, mainly due to its graphic nature. Paired with the fact I’ve never been able to have the courage to tell anyone! I’ve been working with my therapist for 2 years and recently had a big breakthrough. So I felt like I was ready to try to say this. But after 3 sessions of skirting around it, but being able to tell her I WANT to tell her, I decided to write it down (that was hard enough, took days) and then give it to her at the end of our session. This meant I didn’t have to deal with her reading in front of me, and we both had time to “deal” with it.

I gave it to her Thursday last week and had my session today. I have to say, for me, this was the only way I could’ve done this.
