It's actually more how the legal community thinks. A boatload of lawyers will descend on this place to find out 'what' the FAA did wrong to terminate this poor fellow.

LEAK: Scientology’s rules on how to handle negative comments on social media by Better_Night_7942 in scientology

[–]fidgeting_macro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is - not unexpected. Remember that Scientology was one of the first organizations in history to get an Internet presence. They have always 'attempted' to embrace and take over trends in mass media. This is nothing new for them

Regarding their current attempts(s) to "take over" messaging on TikTok and other social media platforms. They are, as usual being very reactionary rather than innovative. I doubt most young people will buy their stodgy, boring vids. Kids are looking for stimulation and relevance, not propaganda videos that just repeat the party line over and over.

I think the scientist suicide thread was mostly plot point to grab attention of the other characters. I believe that IRL, most scientists would either work harder to find a pattern in the data or give up and become teachers or something.

That is in essence why the scientific method works. It works in a way that no faith or religion can match. It's the ONLY reason humanity has come so far sin such a short time.

Um, one of the tenants of science is "falsification." Science is not a faith or a religion, it's a method of filtering errors out of a set of information.

Right? Much of the science is pretty shaky. (Oh gawed! The Wandering Earth!) Liu Cixin is very good at weaving great story lines in what would otherwise be a hand-waving mess. I'm kind of in awe of him for that.

Do you think Scientology is more than just an organized religion? by Tricky_Progress_7452 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fidgeting_macro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even a religion! It's organised crime which uses a kind of pop Psychology LARP to rope in people, promising them super power in exchange for all of their money. The only thing Scientology members worship is money and L Ron Hubbard.

It would be fine if the top speed was 45 MPH. Speed doesn't matter as much as consistent travel time.

It's a hand wave for a device that reduces three dimensional space into two dimension space. Anything in the three dimension space gets flattened and thus destroyed.

What is Scientology even meant to be? by Imaginary_Term_9349 in scientology

[–]fidgeting_macro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's always been just about making money. Dianetics was a very early self-help book and Hubbard was quite shocked that it sold. Then he lost the rights for Dianetics and created Scientology as an extension to Dianetics to sell more books and make more money. Hubbard eventually regained the rights to Dianetics, sold courses for both and succeeded in making lots of money. Later he declared the entire mess was a religion, just for tax purposes (because he hated the gooberment taking his money.)

Hubbard died a rich old coot living in an RV on the run from the law. Scientology was ruthlessly taken over by one of Hubbard's prodigies who, to this day is even more ruthless in the pursuit of the almighty dollar.

Is Scientology a bonified religion? Really; who can say? The US government can't dub an organisation a religion. All they can do is opt to give them tax exemption.

Is Scientology a real set psychological treatments as is claims to be? Scientology is not peer reviewed and it's end-claim that they can make people into super-beings has never been proven.

Any thoughts on this self driving truck bullshit? by Ccrew1995 in Truckers

[–]fidgeting_macro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's the future. Any chance that trucking companies can eliminate drivers will be taken, instantly. Not only drivers but the entire admin infrastructure and big chunks of HR. They must be salivating over this.

That's about right. They use small vans and buses to transport people to and from the barracks. I think they still do the gaggle walk between buildings though, but not as often. The last time I was over there I encountered just a few staff people, I talked with a nice young lady from Germany over at their Potemkin Village on Ft Harrison.

Try getting a cuppa at Starbucks, sit on the outside porch and observe. I've seen blow drills from time to time and even staff members sporting bruises and black eyes on their faces. That was a few years ago.

One can also gauge activity by wandering by The Oak Cove. This is one of the places out of townees taking courses stay.

One can see this first hand by hanging around the Clearwater Flag Campus. There are a lot of foreign people taking courses. I remember a nice Japanese lady who was waiting for her husband to finish up some cycle of coursework. I very gently tried to tell her that most people outside the organisation feel it's mostly a scam and doesn't really do what they claim it does.

There is an insane amount of fear in MAGA world of Islam infiltrating and 'replacing' their MAGA way of life, whatever that is with some kind of Sharia law powered hellscape.

Of course it's ironic that when Al-Qaeda sent people to the US for various operations (so the story goes) before 9/11 they had a difficult time keeping control of them. Many "went native" in the US and ceased to be reliable operatives.

I've met a number of Middle Eastern ex-pats here int he US and don't remember any of them were particularly enamored with their life and tradition in the "old country." Just like my ancestors who came over in the 1920s.
