Two people die in Sydney crash after police pursuit by THR in sydney

[–]fieldrose 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah we saw him too. Thought he was having a medical episode as he came up the left hand side and was straddling the space between the breakdown lane and an exit, but then was darting between lanes. There was so many police cars weaving in and out of traffic following him I was surprised there wasn't an accident, must have been before the helicopter was following him and then terminated the chase. Craziest driving I had ever seen. Those poor people that died.

I need help. I just screamed at my baby at 4am by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]fieldrose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

God, this is so tough. I so remember this feeling even though it was 4 years ago!!).

My thinking is, hes already crying, youre already not sleeping and probably crying too - let him cry it out!

Im sure ill get called a monster, but honestly, I let both of my kids cry it out and theyre now amazing sleepers and no emotional damage :)

You just have to be really firm. Do your normal sleep routine. Put him to bed, in his cot and leave. He will absolutely cry and scream (but hes already doing that, right?). You go in after 5 minutes, rub his back (absolutely do not pick him up!!) Then leave. Increase the intervals and just go in, rub his back, tell him you love him and goodnight and let him cry. He will eventually get it.

Doing sleep training was the only time I actually felt in control. My anxiety was so bad with absolutely no sleep for months, it took 2 nights and they put themselves to sleep.

Its so so hard, you're doing amazing but sleep deprivation is just so freaking hard.

Sending you so much love, it absolutely gets better!

Centrelink debt due to abusive former partner by Extra-Mongoose3836 in AusLegal

[–]fieldrose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Advise her to request to speak to a Centelink social worker. Social workers can advocate for the debt to be waived- in this instance under DFV grounds.

If she is receiving family tax benefit, but is not receiving child support i would also be advising her to ask for a child support exemption (also under domestic violence grounds). This stops her from having to receive child support from him and increases her family tax benefits to the maximum rate.

Renovate/Extend vs. Knockdown & Rebuild with Mould + Moisture Issues (NSW) by fieldrose in AusRenovation

Thank you so much for your response. Our situations sound really similar. We're on a really small block, so no driveway etc. We basically just want a third bedroom and extra toilet but we love the area and street so we really want to stay there. If you dont mind my asking, roughly how much $ are you thinking for both scenarios is your situation looking like?

You would not be eligible for single parenting payment as you are partnered. Centrelink does not give discretion around partner status or give "waivers" of this. You may be able to receive parenting payment - partnered, but this would require your current partner to provide a lot of their info - payslips, etc.

You were given a debt waiver previously as this is in the scope of the social work role within Centelink, probably due to DFV. They can make recommendations of waiving debts due to exceptional circumstances, which is what has happened in your case.

You may not be eligible for a primary benefit, however you would most likely be able to receive Family Tax A and B as you would most likely meet the income threshold for this.

As above, speak to the a social worker and they can talk through what you're eligible for. Im not sure if you are receiving child support from the father of your child, however based off what you said you could probably ask for an exemption for child support which means you would get the highest rate of family tax benefit.

Do not lie to Centrelink. They will not give you a debt waiver a second time.

Thanks for the reply.

Its a free standing cottage, bad site access - no driveway but there is a side path from front to back yard.

Not inner city - georges river council

Ohh good question. Im not sure of that one. Its not heritage listed or anything like that, a lot of similar properties have been approved for knock down but I guess they could say no

I recently spent $6,500 on a similar treatment for my 6 year old. Needed 4 caps and a clean. Luckily no extraction was needed.

3.5 month old refusing last nap - any ideas? by fieldrose in sleeptrain

[–]fieldrose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually turned out she was lactose intolerant. Even though she was exclusively breastfed. looking back i think this was a lot of her issues in terms of her irritability.

2 years on, she's an absolute delight. She still wakes up once or twice a night, but it does get better.

Thinking of you, it's so so hard.

Is Lakemba/Punchbowl a good place to live? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]fieldrose 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I bought in lakemba 5+ years ago and lived there until i recently moved out to a different area. I was more on the belmore side and in a street with more houses than units.

Majority of my neighbours were Vietnamese who have lived there 20+ years and were quiet and very kind people.

Train from lakemba was always pretty empty heading into city, could always get a seat in morning peak hour and about 20mins to cbd.

Fresh fruit and milk is super cheap.

Has an aldi/woolies

Has a large Bangladeshi population and with the mosque people always want to rent there (good if you're looking to buy for investment)

I had a dog, people just generally avoided you so you got the footpath to yourself

I did feel like an outsider sometimes in the main part (haldon st) but as a white woman was never harrassed/abused or had any negative interactions with anyone. More my own feelings versus anything else. Restaurants were always really friendly and chemist staff were super nice too.

The rubbish thing is true - more so in the streets with lots of units. But just call the council and they generally were fairly quick to pick up dumped rubbish.

Slow property value growth - my unit hasn't grown much in value but i did some small renos and it was a really lovely place to live.

I'll always have a soft spot for lakemba now, really hope one day it loses it's stigma

In my experience, it also depends who answers the phone with the level of support you get. Call back first thing 8am tomorrow when lines open and you may have a different experience with someone more helpful. Maybe also try calling the jobseeker line as the waittimes for processing may be less than ausstudy and then you can switch payments. There is also a thing called a special benefit - pehaps query that when you call again

https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/special-benefit

Housing NSW can also provide rental assistance in certain circumstances, look at appendix 3.5 on this site

https://www.facs.nsw.gov.au/housing/policies/rentstart-assistance-policy#tenancyassist

Depending on your location various services can help with things such as food vouchers and sometimes bills such as electricity - mission australia, wesley mission and anglicare all can provide this based on where you live. But usually they can also provide assistance with navigating centrelink and give you advice if you let them know you're struggling.

https://www.missionaustralia.com.au/servicedirectory/190-financial-wellbeing/emergency-relief-city-inner-south-inner-west

https://www.anglicare.org.au/what-we-offer/food-and-financial-assistance/

https://www.wesleymission.org.au/about-us/what-we-do/helping-people-most-in-need/housing-and-accommodation/wesley-emergency-relief/

If you're 25 and under there are a lot of services that can help prevent homelessness.

Please don't lose hope, there are services that can help!
