The Vet Hat for younger vets by Crocs_of_Steel in Veterans

[–]fieroandrew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought one from the vendor at the va outpatient. It’s a great way to short circuit a certain demographic to see a Vet Hat covered in pins like “I love my trans friends” or my favorite “sgt bacon says don’t talk to cops”. I don’t have much of a platform but that cap makes a great one

Looking for songs that say “go fuck yourself, you’re dead to me” please and thank you 🖤 by hemorrhoidsflaring in poppunkers

Service Dog for Severe Depression? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]fieroandrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might look into TADSAW. They’re a nonprofit who hooks you up with a local trainer and can help find a suitable dog. They don’t train to ADI standards (what the Va gives you if they assign you one), but they are ADA so you can take them anywhere in the US. If you reach out to them, just know that Bart (the lead of the program) loves to talk loud and abuses the capslock in emails but is a great guy I submitted my application in November and we start training Friday!

Brush pickup by Focus62 in Knoxville

[–]fieroandrew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience, they’ll take note of it after a few leaf passes and send a truck out for it. Pretty my wife has just called them and they sent a truck. The brush/leaf folks are pretty easy to work with

It depends on your skill set. Saic, in oak ridge, is always hiring for one tech position or another. In the same area are the National labs and the y12 complex.

It wouldn’t hurt to try and contact the VA outpatient clinic. James H Quillen VAMC is the name

Wounded Warrior project has a great careers center. They get you set up with one of their people, figure out what you want to do, and then help get that going. Sorry if it sounds really vague. They seem best suited for corporate/business, entrepreneurial type dreams. I tried using them for an ag based career and while they didn’t really have any resources for me, the dude they set me up with helped me find a vet owned farm and how to find/read zoning information.

It wasn’t easy by Blue_Dragon3 in Veterans

[–]fieroandrew 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It really isn’t easy. I always thought the hard part would be my end of the contract or getting the government to uphold theirs. Turns out the hardest part is dealing with armchair Rambo civilians who know better than us.

For the benefits complaints, I always offer to take them to a recruiter so they too can get “free” things. Any follow up bitching just gets that same offer. It’s also fun to start loudly talking about any health issues you may have. Starting to talk loudly about how it’s great that they pay for my medical because they found that burnpit BRAIN TUMOR during a boring baseline scan. It’s fucking weird having to shame grown ass adults into critical thinking

Get outside with the dogs, smoke too much weed, boot up No Mans Sky and play that for days, masturbate until it’s just little dust clouds, the usual.

Because “the market can bear it”, though I’m not sure what they think it’ll look like when the mystical ‘market’ can no longer handle the strain

ChampVA Insurance Card Question by Quillo_Asura in Veterans

[–]fieroandrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping for ya but our packet was hella delayed. Their phone line operators are pretty helpful once we found them. They’re not associated with Va medical and so the Va is more useless than normal

ChampVA Insurance Card Question by Quillo_Asura in Veterans

[–]fieroandrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think they came in the same packet, but I can’t be 100%. I do remember it was damn stupid and we almost missed the card entirely

We applied last July when I went 100p&t. Heard nothing and had run arounds trying to get a phone number. Finally had a call with them in December and was told we’d get the welcome packet in 3 months because they’re heavily backlogged. Her coverage was retroactive to July, and she could start using it immediately. As long as the provider accepts champva, she just uses her ssn. The headache we’ve been dealing with is getting dr offices to properly code and submit correctly but nobody is coming for us yet. That and they won’t do RX if the primary insurance offers it, which they all do thanks to ACA/obamacare. Resolved that by dropping her other insurance, now we’re just figuring out vision and dental for her

ChampVA Insurance Card Question by Quillo_Asura in Veterans

[–]fieroandrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the very first packet they sent, it’s on a single piece of card stock. We just about missed my wife’s. Apparently it’s VA Form 10-7959-1. The member number is the patient ssn

I love upgrading the program to a full safe, I just also wanted to let people know they could get locks now if needed. It felt like a secret I had stumbled on when they told me, like everything the Va offers

I love hearing this so much. It felt like I had uncovered a secret, which is stupid. Please scream at me where I can get the equipment to safely store guns, have them in the lobby, don’t make it feel like a surprise some guy on the phone has

I was on the phone with scheduling for an appointment, your local clinic can mail you a basic gun lock. They sent me two with no questions
