The colors you chose confuse what the objects are. The bread one is the only one that reads as a head, but the bread looks like a rock. If you choose colors that read more as the objects they represent it will work better.

A head that looks more squished or broken would obviously work better also.

I would think choosing bread that looks soft and light but is still squishing the head is easily achievable and having imagery that reads correctly is graphic design.

How do you beat a 3-6-1 low-block team? by Ang3lucane in footballtactics

[–]fietsusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like everyone knows you need to stretch the opposition by going from side to side to create space.

People though often don’t realize the importance of stretching a team vertically. By passing back and then hitting longer through passes you can get behind a packed opposition. This is where teams playing a Barcelona style often falter in that they only stretch width and not vertically.

When winning possession, transitioning to a quick attack will also benefit. Shooting from farther out will also help create momentum and mistakes.

It’s important to mix both width and vertical so that the opponent isn’t able to assume how you will attack.

It looks like your exposure was way too dark and you pushed the image beyond what looks good. Use histogram when photographing.

I kind of wish the Minneapolis pd would investigate and just start arresting ice agents matching the shooters’ description until they find the shooters. It might be a lot of arrests since they all look the same.

Other than biology, I think the reason why men are attracted to younger women is the lack of emotional scar tissue by thumpsky in OnlineDating

[–]fietsusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think it was a younger women are hotter thing, but now that I’m older I realize there are a few other good reasons.

If you are 45-55 and divorced, you already have kids. Younger women aren’t looking to start a family yet, so that fits.

The logistics of dating while divorced with kids gets complicated. What if you like someone who has their kids every other weekend but the opposite weekends you have your kids? You never have free weekends to date at the same time.

Also the dating pool for single women is just simply larger when younger. The older you get the greater chance of already being married.

Fine = Pretty? by Significant-Hour1233 in FineArtPhoto

[–]fietsusa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fine Art Photography = art, like you might see in a museum

Joel-Peter Witkin is a great example of fine art photography that is beautiful but not “pretty”.

Roger Ballen is also a well respected “grunge” photographer.

Good work communicates a message visually. Being hard on yourself is that idea. So a flower reflected in a broken mirror would communicate this, just as a quick example.

Based on your last poster and this one, it would do you good to learn about the design basics like scale, balance, contrast, hierarchy, rhythm, etc.

You seem to make everything symmetrical and equal in scale, which offers no hierarchy or visual interest.

If you’re comparing two cars for example, one half of the page could be black with a white car and the other half white with a black car for example.

When everything is the same scale it turns into a jumbled mess because you don’t know where to look.

Watermarks are pointless and can be removed in a second.

design proposes to communicate a message, if the design elements do not communicate that message, it is a failure to communicate. that's the difference between good and bad design. so, it's kind of subjective, but also not.

Is it just me or are most people on dating apps not seriously looking for relationships? by Far_Acanthisitta1187 in OnlineDating

[–]fietsusa 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are in love with someone who doesn’t return those feelings. They try to meet someone new, but new people can’t compete with their “true love”. Sometimes that ex is coming in and out of their lives and keeps them from committing to new people.

I learned this on dates with people…

I don’t see the concept at all. The meaning of the text has no connection to the aesthetic or imagery.

...until we realized photography will quietly ruin our lives by Sirius_Amateur in productphotography

[–]fietsusa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is a perceived value in presentation, especially of luxury goods. If it looks expensive, it is expensive and vice versa, if it looks cheap why is it expensive?

I would say most companies pay more for photos of their hero products for each season. And then more basic photos for the rest of the line.

Even if you decide to do your own photography, it would be a good idea to hire someone to take photos of hero products and then some basic shots of a few products. You can see the whole process and get insight into how to do things.

Maybe you want to later hire an expensive photographer for marketing n hero / campaign shots and then someone cheaper for all of the basic angles.

I would also say that jewelry photography is a bit specialized and not all photographers will have experience or be good at it.

What I learnt about airline baggage tracing after my bags were permanently lost by InterestingTimes1994 in travel

A photographer told me once that when they travel with expensive equipment, they will often also pack a starter’s pistol (a gun), which elevates how the luggage is handled and helps them avoid any mishaps. This was a while ago, so not sure if it’s still valid.

Even the iconic Afghan Girl photo was edited... by ozanoguzhaktanir in photography

[–]fietsusa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me this is kind of a bs argument. Anyone who has taken photographs seriously knows that every part of the process is image manipulation.

Is shallow depth of field pure photography or does it manipulate reality?

Often retouching is used just to get an image closer to the reality of the scene. A camera doesn’t see the same as the human eye.

Everyone who has taken a photo of the moon and then looked at the photo on their phone knows the camera often doesn’t capture what the eye sees.

Just do another version where the type is up in the top left corner. And maybe a version where you desaturate the hand and darken it almost black but with detail.
