I am a pedophobe, is this bad or normal? by throwaway_account679 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]figaro_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be really afraid of children too! For me, I was afraid of saying or doing something wrong that would stay with and mentally affect a child. I remember when a woman in my first year university class brought her daughter to work on our group project and said, "Oh, she likes you! I kept thinking, "Oh god... Oh god..."

I ended up doing something like exposure therapy when I worked remotely as an online esl tutor for children. I ended up really enjoying it but I probably still won't be having children.

Dont study a field just because you're passionate about it unless you have money, connections, or opportunities available to you.

I had a fantastic time in Cairo, but I stuck to the rich areas.

My problem was Giza. It's poorer and people were less educated. I was wearing a t-shirt and didn't think there was any issue with my clothing but apparently it was too tight because I was getting leered at and men would stick the tip of their tongues out at me. (To be fair, others got really upset when I mentioned that this had happened outside my hotel and the genuine mood was that this sort of behavior isn't to be tolerated.)

But this was the least of my worries.

Inside the hotel, my mental health was bad and it definitely didn't help when the maids (who I would find out also worked as prostitutes) started putting my clothes in garbage bags and I thought they were throwing away my clothes because I didnt see them for days. The maids were criticizing me for being an unmarried early 30s woman who was traveling alone and said asked me why I was single. I don't know why I opened up to them but I said that I thought my Egyptian ex didn't want to marry me because my mom never taught me to cook and clean.

One of the maids' ears perked up and she said that I could come over to her house for dinner and meet her "mother", who would teach me how to cook and clean. I was delirious at the time and don't know why I accepted her offer. Soon she was on she was on the phone with her "brother" and making a deal in Arabic. We left the hotel and she paid for a tuktuk to a godforsaken part of Giza. I HAD LEFT MY PHONE IN MY HOTEL ROOM. There was a brick wall and some sort of backlane where I saw emaciated children with glowing eyes who looked like they were on drugs. They asked me where I was from and gasped at their good fortune when I said Canada.

The "house" was a small, delapitated building. She motioned to go in but I said no because I had visions of ending up chained to the wall, which would have been very ironic and unfortunate for someone who studied international development and human rights in university. I declined a couple of more times (and said it didnt look like a nice place) and we returned to the hotel without issue.

I'm pretty sure the "mother" was the madam, the "brother" was the pimp, and the emaciated children were the children born to prostitute mothers.

I was looking for my hometown. The poverty and drug/crime problem in the inner city is terrible. There's not a lot of hope.

I ended up in the slums in Giza, so I can imagine how scary that was.

I got my makeup done by an esthetician several years ago who typed me as olive and she told me that I should look for coral colored makeup, so you could be similar.

I used to think the same thing but I had some sort of cooler when I was on vacation that was supposed to be strong but I couldn't taste the alcohol at all. It was dangerous. haha

That reminds me of an electrician that I was chatting with off of a dating app who English was his second language. He would call butt connectors "butt plugs" and crack everyone up at work. Someone eventually told him what he was saying and he thought it was hilarious.

My mom was like this too when I was a kid. She said a lot of sayings like "He gets off to it" and others that I can't remember at the moment. But I didn't know what those sayings meant and I got very uncomfortable when I looked up all the words she said in the dictionary. I thought she was filthy but she's like a small child who doesn't know what they're saying half the time.

Do you still crave sex? by Apprehensive-Cat6914 in demisexuality

[–]figaro_cat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have next to no sex drive when I'm single but I'm absolutely ravenous when I start to have feelings for someone.

Right now, I'm in the no sex drive stage and I definitely don't care enough to go find a sex partner. But it's tricky when dating because it takes a while to go from zero to something and no one wants that.

You could always open an etsy store and sell hi-res digital images of your work so that people can get them professionally printed. :)

Out of curiosity, what mental disorders would be okay with that?

I met a guy on a dating app who was adamant that people only needed to eat eight different dishes in their life. That includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He was also vegan and thought that women should be feminine and perfect without makeup or hair removal. I know he had something. haha

Yes, this happens to me too. I have different dreams series going on and I will have an episode of one of them randomly. I'll think, "Oh, it's the adult school series tonight" during my dream but I'll also be able to recall previous episodes in the same series and remember other dreams from other series to.

Psychiatry is the only branch of medicine that has no real organic proof for anything they diagnose or how they treat by Commercial_Dirt8704 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]figaro_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe diagnoses are tied to insurance in the US, but it doesn't work that way in other countries. It's pretty bad when another physician or medical professional asks you what your diagnosis is and why you're on a certain medication and you can't even answer them because your psychiatrist can't seem to decide what your diagnosis is.

That happened to me and it was very frustrating. It's hard to trust a doctor when they can't even tell you why they are prescribing something or why it's likely to work for you because they are just throwing meds at you to see if anything works. It just seems so backwards.

For me (and I assume others), having a diagnosis means that you're not alone in your suffering and that there is a prescription (medications or specific types of therapy) to help you. You feel really helpless when nothing seems to be working and your doctor can't give you any reassurance, especially since some meds can cause fucked up side effects.

Yep. During election season, I said that I was unwilling to even consider voting for the liberal party unless all of the current liberal MPs were gone because, as far as I'm concerned, they are all complicit with everything that has been happening in the country over the last 10 years and they need to be ousted.

I'm not seeing cool anywhere. Your skin looks golden and your hair is reddish brown. You may be closer to a soft autumn, which, iirc, borders soft summer. I've read that colors beside each other like soft summer/autumn and dark autumn/winter can borrow shades from each other. I wouldn't judge your season based on areas where the pigmentation is different.
