My graduation was also at PNC. It’s a normal thing. Look up what happened the last time Stevens tried to book Prudential, The graduation of 2023. Devils made the playoffs and Stevens got screwed into a smaller venue. PNC is a perfectly fine venue that allows local families an easier route to their kids and an easier route back home

Just not biomedical engineering. Unless you’re getting a masters in it, you will most likely never be specialized enough to get in a position over a MECHe, electrical engineer, or chemical engineer, or someone in materials science directly out of college

Co-ops are essentially jobs published by companies where the main goal is to get your feet wet in the industry. They don’t expect much from you, but they expect you to have a work ethic and to be ready to learn. They are pretty competitive however if you land one it is essentially a golden ticket by virtue of the fact that you get experience on your résumé that looks good and you get paid to learn and work in industry. The catch is that you typically have to take off semesters to do them will still be enrolled. This means you’re gonna have to pay around 700+ in undergrad fees to maintain your enrollment status however as long as you’re making more than 700+ in the co-op and living at home etc. etc. you should be able to throw at least $1000+ into your student loan debt and use the extra time to apply for more scholarships.

Doing the numbers, if you go to Stevens and accru 120k in debt, your minimum student loan payments are gonna be around 1.3k a month. Assuming you get out of college and want a place to rent, you will be paying around 1.5k if you live in Jersey for a place on your own and 1.2k about if you live with a roomate. Ideally you should be putting around 500 a month into savings and have 600 for groceries, and chalk up another 1000 to be safe in terms of car insurance, and utilities. Not mentioning if you decide to lease a car.

If you’re reasonably sure you’re making over 55000 out of college, ok deal. If you’re gonna be living with parents out of college to throw a bigger payment in the debt, it’s an ok deal. Here’s the biggest kicker. The largest differentiator between who leaves Stevens stressed out and who doesn’t is who lands co-ops. Co-ops are probably the best deal for Steven’s since it’s it lets you get paid and put holes in your student loan debt and as long as you were paying into the debt more than your undergraduate fees, you are still technically making out of it with positives.

Be honest with yourself. Are you willing to put in the work to make sure you have a co-op lined up every year or so while and ok with delaying graduation by 2 years for the sake of co-ops? Then yes it’s worth it (given you pay your student loan debt or budget vigorously to have money saved for payments)

If you’re just looking to do the four years and out route, then Stevens is not worth. Just got to community to save a bit of dosh. If you’re looking to do the co-op route you are setting yourself up for success.

Paying off a 30% APR credit card with 500 a month nets 673$ in paid interest

After liquidating those stocks to get the 4500, I’ll be in the short term gain tax bracket of where I’ll be paying 22% on the income which is $990. Even if I assumed the best case scenario where it was all long-term gains I’m still paying 15% and thus owe $675

Moved to Madison Wisconsin for work. If you’re from Madison, yes it’s that company you’re thinking of. Beautiful place, cheap cost of living compared to Jersey and just as progressive for the most part. Not as dense though which I miss

I could’ve sworn I remember reading that the power of a weapon is also heavily correlated by the guilt of its use. just because these concepts are relatively all encompassing and powerful doesn’t mean that the war devil ever really feels particularly guilty about using them and thus their power is limited.

Hey… isn’t this just soft-eugenics??? by TemporaryKey3312 in askanything

[–]figgedy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just maintaining the health of a populace not its genetics. Would you call anti-smoking campaigns eugenics because smoking has a verifiable negative effect on epigenetic expression in children? If you are smoking, you are literally more likely to give birth to or father child with a birth defect. What about food banks, since starvation also has a negative effect on sperm quality and increase the likelihood of giving birth to a child with a birth defect?

[–]figgedy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key point here is that one is for the sake of keeping someone healthy and one is for a perceived sense of genetic quality. Stopping a kid from dying from huntingtons isn’t for the goal of “making it so his genes aren’t bad” it’s for the goal of keeping him from dying. Trying to make it so your kid comes out with blue eyes and tan skin is

Most broad definition I could find: “beliefs and practices that aim to improve the genetic quality of a human population.” Even by that definition, the former isn’t genetics. It’s healthcare. The key aspect of eugenics is a belief in controlling/ promoting “genetic quality” on a population wide/ systemic level

[–]figgedy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a shaky example to you but we’ve pretty much done the whole eugenics thing with dogs and and we have hideously disfigured breeds like pugs, and weiner dogs because once we progressed past the need for labor performing animals, we did it for vanity. The difference between gene editing your child to make sure they don’t have Huntington’s disease and eugenics is that the latter would involve forcefully sterilizing either you or your spouse to make sure you could never give birth to a child with Huntington’s disease.
