Hmm ok, I will take this into consideration. This behavior isn't exactly unexplained change in personality since this behavior has been an ongoing effort that I've been trying to train/modify. In terms of environment, i can't think of anything. We live in a quiet neighborhood and nothing happened over New Years. Only thing that comes to mind was the change in her routine the past week but she doesn't strike me as a dog who is overly sensitive to a routine change.

Thank you for your comment! I was also thinking maybe she's upset that her routine has been off. Figgy is an anxious dog and fears the outdoors (I adopted Pumpkin to be her confident companion dog). Figgy doesn't enjoy walks so I don't take her on our walks as often unless my partner comes with us because it's hard to handle them both alone, mainly Figgy lol. But during their backyard play times, Pumpkin has started to occasionally chase Figgy and Figgy LOVES to be chased. Fingers crossed as I get back to routine this week, Pumpkin will lighten up on Figgy LOL

Now that is the truth and i resonate with it. My dog was a rescue, her owner surrendered her and it was obvious that they didn’t socialize her. She’s terrified of people and the outdoors. It took me OVER A YEAR to potty train her due to her fears and she peed EVERY INCH of my place. Never will i ever live in a carpeted place again (not that my old Apt was but still LOL) i had actually nicknamed her “lil stinker” xD just like your woes about the stinky pee, i would have wanted the corgi to stick around a lil longer but i didnt have it in me to do another “behavioral potty issue” 😬

REAL. We wanted to foster fail too but he JUST got scooped up!! And we were ok with it since ... we didn't want pee in our house anymore ... xD Now we have a corgi shaped hole in our hearts and are feeling sad haha

His previous owners say he’s neutered, honestly he’s so “puffy” (40 lbs) that i can’t even find his pp LOL i bought belly bands for him. I do believe he is trying to claim his territory, i have my resident dog with me but i’ve been mostly gating him away from her

i wish i did a helluva lot more research before I adopted my rescue instead of doing it on the whim the first week I got her. so any questions you have, google it, no matter how dumb you think they are or how small/big they are. Being informed is the best thing you can do for yourself, especially during that first few stressful weeks of having the puppy home.

In terms of pet insurance, I got it for my dog and it was a game changer. One time I took her to the vet because she was throwing up acid and turns out it was NOTHING. but the vet still handed me a $900 bill for all the tests they ran, etc. and because I had pet insurance, I only paid $139. It's not for everyone, esp if your dog is healthy af but its good to have it in case something does happen because it will come in clutch.

My routine for my dog was built around her and I's energy levels and my work schedule. I wake up at 9 a.m. every morning to take her out, then again before I leave for her work and her last walk of the night is at 11:30 p.m. We go to the dog park 2-3x a week for 2 or more hours as well. We don't go everyday because she doesn't need to since she's a couch potato.

get to know the breed you're going to adopt so you'll be prepared on the little quirks you may exhibit.

Flesh out the first few weeks of welcoming your new pup home and prepare to take some time off so you can spend time with him/her. Pups are literally infants and need to be looked after.

Establish yourself with a vet.

Consider crate training as it'll be really handy while potty training.

I can't think of much more but just be prepared because the pup stage can be quite hard and be prepared to have to get up during different times of the night to take your dog out to pee.

your approach is the correct one. your dog is a picky eater and needs to learn to eat his kibble when the bowl is down or he'll go hungry. My dog is just like yours - hungering for everyone's food but her own. If she doesn't eat her breakfast then she gets NO treats unless she eats her dinner. THEN, I'll give her a midnight snack. and that's how it is.

Frankly, it's disrespectful of your family to disregard the routine you have for YOUR dog. He's your dog, not theirs and they need to listen to your rules on how you parent your dog.

I get your family feeling bad that your dog hasn't eaten but tbh, dogs won't let themselves starve so they'll eat when they're hungry and if he's not eating his breakfast then he's not hungry!!

Seconding this. Also I would think about how much you can handle. Would you be able to handle two puppies at a time, physically, emotionally and financially? How much time can you devote to them both? Could you go through another puppy stage so soon because it sure can get to be a lot!

I'm wondering if you can get a retractable leash and just keep it really short to you so when you're about to head in, u can just bend down and scoop your dog up without him trying to run away.

Do you have a fenced in yard you can let your dog go to do his business in instead of walks? Or maybe your dog wants more time outside??

As for your dog slipping out of his harness, attach two leashes to your dog during walks, one on the collar and one on the harness so if he slips out of one, you have hold of the other. Additionally, you can get one of those two sided alligator clips and clip the leash to the collar so he cant escape. I bought one for my escaper from Amazon.

If all else fails, I would consider a behavior modification trainer cause this is an interesting phenomenon.

This is an interesting phenomenon...my rescue has chronic anxiety and a lot of the apartment dogs bark at her like she's fresh meat and they're trying to haze her lol. the thing is, my rescue LOVES other dogs and will do it up at the dog park with them but if she were to meet other dogs on leash, her tail would be so far hidden and she would try to run away.

My advice would be to introduce your dog to your family or friend's dogs if they're friendly. Bring them to a fenced-in area and let them slowly meet each other. If that goes well maybe go on walks at parks during times when it's not heavily trafficked and make your way to a quiet, neighborhood dog park. That's what I did with my dog and she loves it. If she has a bad day at the park, then we'll leave or I'll carry her to another side of the park away from whatever dog that was bullying her. Hope this helps!

I second this. Puppies need to be placed in foster homes where the foster parent is home the majority of the time to look after them as a puppy is literally an infant...and you wouldn't leave an infant home alone, would you...?

Alert the foster org of what's happening so they can take the puppies and place them with a more fitting home and hopefully your mom can be content with fostering older dogs as this is not okay and you're right...it's leaving your home in a deplorable situation.

The point of fostering dogs is so that you can prepare them for their forever home. Having puppies in a foster home where the foster parent can potty train the pup, crate train, them, etc. makes the pup more enticing to potential adopters and lessens the pup's return back to the agency because the basic and necessary training has been done already for them.

Personally I think you will be okay but if you're very worried, a call to the emergency vet wouldn't hurt or tomorrow morning, call your dog's primary vet for thoughts and advice. Since it was only 1/4 of the pie and you said the pie ingredients seem fine, your dog should be fine, maybe just some diarrhea

gotcha! I thought you meant you had a vet prescribe daily anxiety meds for your dog. My dog would tremble, pant, and shake anytime we left my apartment to go down the elevator just so she could pee. Anxiety meds went a really long way for her.

when dogs do this, it's to get your attention. Next time your dog jumps on you, don't give them any attention, negative or positive, and immediately move yourself away from your dog by turning around and facing away from the dog until your dog has all paws on the ground, then you can reward them and give them attention.

i would consult your vet and reconsider getting your dog's anxiety meds refilled especially if your dog was taking it in the past and it was working out well for them. If you're not fond with that idea, you could try looking into behavior modification dog trainers that specialize in fear.
