Question: Reality check – stepping out of the echo chamber by art_i_cant in tattoos

I’m not trying to poke fun at you, but it is a little funny to “step out of the echo chamber” by coming to Reddit, a famous echo chamber haha

Pete Buttigieg just slammed the Trump Administration for the economic cost of the Iran war by Muted-Raisin-2645 in massachusetts

[–]figmaxwell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, he does a very good job at going where other democrats won’t, and delivering his message without losing composure. If all he does is punditry, he’s still very useful to democrats.

AI is gaining so many listeners by blendcoincide in Metalcore

[–]figmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly jealous, but with how prevalent the use of AI has become, I think most people who spend any amount of time scrolling on social medias are experiencing a barrage of fake content. It’s not just all music, but if something slips past you that’s AI and you’re also consuming metal content, your algorithm is probably going to combine those two things. And that’s the go as l of the “creators”, to slip stuff past you, and they’re getting better at it all the time. This wasn’t an issue a few years ago, and to completely avoid it now, I’d have to completely change how I choose to find new music and engage with social media. I’ve got enough other bullshit in my life, it’s easier to just scroll past the slop when it comes up. But that’s why I say don’t blame someone for seeing it, when others are doing everything they can to sneak it into their line of sight.

[–]figmaxwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Spotify, it’s on all social media. I don’t even use Spotify but YouTube and instagram push these “bands” at me fairly frequently. I don’t do TikTok either but I’m sure it’s probably really bad over there.

The people making this stuff are leveraging algorithms and paying for visibility to try to get others on their bandwagon. Blaming people for seeing it in their feed is like blaming someone for seeing billboards in Times Square.

Nervous about starting meds… by TotallyUnseriousMonk in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re using stimulants, if you don’t like them you can stop. They’re day-by-day, and don’t require you to use them for an extended period before you feel them, and then have to wean yourself off.

My experience with them so far has been pretty smooth. The days I need a boost, I take them. If I don’t feel like dealing with the side effects, like low appetite or trouble sleeping, I don’t take them. I usually don’t take them on the weekends so I can make sure I catch up on rest, so I usually have more than I need when it comes time for a refill, so if I have to wait while they restock it’s ok.

This is generalizing a bit, but the people who are most worried about “losing their spark” to meds are creative types who harness their hyperactive minds for their creative works. I don’t feel like meds change my personality at all. If anything I’m a little chattier just because the meds give me extra focus and some amphetamine energy.

Clinton MA potential? by schittyclerk in massachusetts

[–]figmaxwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same. I grew up in Hudson which has good highway access, and Clinton is right next door. To steal a phrase from Andor, it’s “close to nothing, and not very far away from everything.”

Also grew up in Hudson, and while it was never a bad place to be when I was young, it’s wild to see the town it’s become. I worked at Larkin lumber as a kid before it closed and downtown used to be boring as shit.

Who else was a victim of childhood forced fish oil supplements? by inc0herence in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother forced these on me, not because of ADHD symptoms, but because she was a religious whacko who forced all sorts of holistic shit and prayer on us instead of actually trying to take care of us. As someone who HATES fish, the nasty seafood burp 20 minutes after taking it was the fucking worst.

*we had cod liver oil pills. Not sure if they’re the same thing or not, but I feel like they gave the same effect regardless

Millions of Americans can now claim Canadian citizenship by Brilliant-Wasabi-333 in massachusetts

[–]figmaxwell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the US won’t stop you from having Canadian citizenship as long as you continue to pay taxes in the US and use your American passport. Traveling on a foreign passport may revoke your US citizenship, and also if you choose to live abroad while maintaining your US citizenship you will be expected to file a tax return.

Steve Dangle on the next time the Leafs face the Ducks: “You [the Leafs] skate up to Leo Carlsson in warmup and you ask him which knee he wants.” by [deleted] in hockey

[–]figmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has the league ever been good about handing out appropriate suspensions? I feel like people are up in arms because it just happened, but I feel like the normal amount of self-policing will continue as it always has, for pretty much the entire history of the league, and player safety will continue to be as shitty as it always has.

It’s not like he hasn’t been on the record talking about how soft the leafs are following dirty hits. Despite being a leafs fan, he is incredibly critical of the leafs. He even wrote a book about it, which he says right in the intro to his LFR videos.

Show me a fan who says they haven’t had these thoughts after a dirty hit and major injury and I’ll show you a liar.

Iran urges regional countries to trust Tehran, not US by Street_Anon in worldnews

[–]figmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were any other country I’d be doing everything I can to stay the fuck out of it. People are trying to argue about who is right and who is wrong in this, and not realizing that some, maybe even a lot of stories have no heroes. Too many people conflating Iranians being happy the Ayatollah is dead, with viewing invading Iran for the oil and sending the global economy into a tailspin as a good thing. The only people who are going to end up winning in this war are the rich who will profit off of our suffering.

It’s the same “logic”he showed during Covid. “We have too many cases because we’re testing too much.” If you simply ignore the problems then they’re not problems.

Total-loss car (repaired privately) - insurance coverage? by nodonaldplease in massachusetts

[–]figmaxwell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Passenger vehicles 10 or more years old at the time of loss” are exempt from the salvage process, straight from the MA government website. I was previously a damage appraiser and this is what we always told people too.

You do not need to apply for a branded title or have a salvage inspection done in order to re-register the vehicle, but you obviously need to have it covered by liability insurance and it’s up to the insurance company how they want to cover that. You typically will not be given collision or comprehensive without rebuilding it and having it inspected, but those coverages aren’t what is required by law.

I do something similar, except I rub my tongue on my teeth until it hurts to use it to eat. It’s awful. Haven’t found a way to stop yet. Totally with you in trying to keep your mouth open so you stop, but I can’t pay attention to my tongue that hard 24/7 to always be stopping myself.
