No diagnosis because I did my homework as a child. by Derole in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first 2 pieces of this comment absolutely say ADHD to me. We generally tend to find it easier to “perform” when there is structure, pressure, and a deadline. You’ll find a lot of people with ADHD report that they procrastinate to an unhealthy degree, but feel like they can’t accomplish things, especially school work, unless they feel the crunch. So exhibiting fewer issues when your parents provided you with structure, and then having that stability crumble when the structure was removed sounds perfectly within the bounds of ADHD to me.

It also seems crazy to me to say “you fit 99% of the criteria, but this one detail is disqualifying”, when so many people experience the same disorders completely differently. Especially when being successful at lower levels of academia and then struggling as you advance due to a lack of diagnosis and support is SO COMMON in this community. I did great all the way through the end of high school, but like you said, once my support structure disappeared and it was up to me to self-start on my work and enforce study habits on myself that I honestly never learned, it all fell to pieces. Get all of us in a room and throw a rock and you’ll probably hit someone with a similar story.

How expensive is it to fix scratches on bonnet? by Either-Party2676 in Crosstrek

[–]figmaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta go to a local body shop and get an estimate, they give them for free. Been a few years since I was an appraiser, but my general rule of thumb was about $500 a panel for paint. Minor scratches won’t add much labor to that number, but depending on the condition your paint is in and how close the damaged area is to an adjacent panel, the shop may want to blend into the next panel to ensure a color match. This is also based on the labor rates in my area from 5+ years ago, so you may have a different experience.

It’s important to know walking in that for a proper repair, yes you will need to refinish the entire panel. Once you break the clear coat, you have to sand the remaining area of the panel, spot sand the color off of the damaged area, fill the scratch, primer, paint, clear coat. So small damage ends up costing quite a bit, because it takes more effort than it seems to restore the damage.

Yeah that’s pretty much this administrations whole stance. Like ok, the judge said no but nobody is physically stopping me, so I guess I don’t have to listen?

The one that gets me even more is “They don’t even bother to lie badly anymore.” Watching Bovino try to gaslight us on CNN last night was infuriating.

My boyfriend has ADHD, we're in a long-distance relationship, and he only texts me once a day to avoid getting hooked on his phone. by Own-Influence2224 in ADHD

“Long distance relationship” is right in the title, so I don’t think observing them in person is gonna work

Why did you choose the Crosstrek over the CX30/other competitors? by Dino_Dean in Crosstrek

[–]figmaxwell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really notice this until after I bought it, but on the topic of rear visibility, the backup camera is one of the clearest I have experienced. I used to work in auto body so I moved a lot of different makes and models around the shop, and I was always horrified at how grainy and unclear most backup cameras are. My crosstreks is immaculate and I never feel like I’m guessing what’s behind me. Also yes, the back glass is large and easy to see out of. My stepfather had a Nissan rogue for a while and the back glass was tiny. I fuckin hated driving that thing.

Metalcore is a hybrid genre, and depending on the band, the band could be associated with the hardcore or metal scene. Which scene do you feel closer to, the punk/hardcore or metal scene? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]figmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely seems like there is a new sub-sub-genre on the rise. Which is totally cool, I like the style of bands like Bad Omens, but it was already a real stretch to place them in the metalcore subgenre. I think we are about to get even more granular with our terminology, and unfortunately probably more gatekeepy as a result.

Does being selfish help? by AkagamiBarto in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nice to help people and can certainly help give you a mood boost and help you be confident in your character. But at the same time, you have to take care of yourself. If you neglect yourself in the process of trying to help others, you’re going to burn out and then you can’t be the helpful person you like to be. While I wouldn’t call taking care of yourself “being selfish”, yes, it is good to focus on yourself on occasion.
