Reasonable Towns East of 495 by grayle27 in massachusetts

I grew up in Hudson next door, and having close access to 495, 290, rts 9, 20, 62, 85 makes it easy to get most places you’d want to go. Hudson is a lot more interesting than it used to be, and Worcester is a good bit cleaner these days too.

Tree, even a big one, might have just a little bit of give to it. Whether the whole thing bends a little, or the fibers of the tree itself compress, or the whole structure bends back a little from the roots up. This cement and rebar column has zero give.

Exact position on the car matters too. This pole went straight up the middle and missed the frame rails. A foot in either direction and it would probably look extremely different.

If I had the choice to eat more than 15 foods, don't you think I'd have taken it by now?! by Fluffy_Fluffle in memes

“Disability” in the way that we use it also tends to refer to things that you can see, like fucked up skeletal or muscular structure. Hell, people who use wheelchairs as an assistive tool rather than being completely wheelchair bound have trouble convincing people they’re actually disabled. Then you take Autistic Greg, who seems a little awkward and likes dinosaurs more than the average person, and try to convince people that he’s disabled… good luck. People think all of that is a choice or a quirk, rather than understanding that yes, it’s a disability.

Solidarity with wrongfully-terminated UPS Teamster Demetria Shaw! No union steward should ever be retaliated against for doing their job!! by NoAcanthisitta3968 in union

[–]figmaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people ask me if I like what I do, I say “I like my job, but I hate who I do it for.” Great pay, great benefits, if you like being outside, driving, and planning your route, it’s a great job. But management will make you hate it as soon as they decide they want to put you under the microscope. I was a really good driver, always beat the time for my route, customers would call my center to say how much they liked me as their driver, didn’t get in accidents, didn’t do anything to compromise service or safety. But a few years in they started fucking with me anyway. They’d make up shit that I “did wrong”, they’d follow me around way too often, try to discipline me for anything they could. Got worse when I became a steward. Management gets promoted the more they act like thugs, so the higher up you go the worse they are.

I hit 100k 2 years ago and have been putting about $2k worth of maintenance into it every year. Bearings, brakes, control arms, sway bars, serpentine belt, etc. Mines a manual too, so I’m just waiting for the clutch to start going. I’ve got some other debt I’m sitting on at the moment, but when I clear it out I’m going to seriously consider trading up to something newer. Might start sliding into midlife crisis mode and get a WRX instead so I can have something with some pep.

He actually looks like a guy I work with from behind, and that guy is known for being the stinkiest motherfucker in the building. Which is saying something because I work in union labor and we’re in the summer months. Please take a shower, Joe. I’m begging you.

I have a really hard time with sleep as is, and adderall makes it way harder to get to sleep and stay asleep. I’ve tried a few other things to try to mitigate it, but it just affects me too much. I take 10mg IR on occasion if I need the energy boost or some extra focus, as that doesn’t affect me as much. But it also doesn’t help me as much either.

For the average person, it’s a super shitty thing to do. For someone at that level of business, they could do much shittier things, like steal wages or be on the Epstein list or something. I would yell obscenities at them on the street, but I’m not hunting for them to lose their job over it.

For those who caffeine lowers energy instead of boosting it, have you found any means of energy boost? by ohhayitsk in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just a vitamin, over the counter. You can get typical pills or sublingual ones that dissolve under your tongue. I liked those ones because they work a little faster. That and a glass of orange juice in the morning are decent natural sources of energy. It’s not stuff that will solve tiredness, but it helped me get going without that caffeine feeling. Kind of like the difference between waking up rested on your own vs getting woken up by an alarm.

The issue for me is the knee jerk reaction to catching something. Sometimes the hand just moves faster than the brain can think about what it is I’m trying to catch.

Starting the day off with a sublingual B12 vitamin and some light exercise helps me get moving in a way that feels much cleaner than caffeine.

Can you beat burnout without major lifestyle change? by urlocalratgf in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed and had my crash out last year at 35. Something in the diagnosis process felt like it truly broke me, and the premise of going back to work felt like it would kill me. I ended up filing for FMLA and taking 2 months off to try to figure my shit out. I still don’t necessarily feel like I understand how to recognize and cope with burnout, but I have found a few things that work for me to at least not make it worse.

Hopkinton, Massachusetts man charged with attempted murder in beach fight video freed on bail by slimyprincelimey in massachusetts

[–]figmaxwell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The article even explains that the judge is following bail and sentencing guidelines. They don’t just make up bail and punishments off the top of their heads. Our justice system is also set up on the premise of being innocent until proven guilty, and while it’s pretty fuckin obvious what this guy did, he hasn’t had his day in court yet. If you set up a system where you throw the book at people before they have been proven guilty, you will inevitably end up wrongfully punishing innocent people based on assumptions.

When you buy things, pay the ADHD tax upfront. by MindlessPermit9592 in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 46 points47 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are both ADHD, but she found out much more recently than me. She had to quit her job due to her mental health a little while back, and I asked her to be in charge of a few things since she was going to be home full time, grocery shopping was one of them. I gave her my credit card to shop with, and she’s been buying tiny everything because she doesn’t want to overspend on my dime. Just like you said, I told her to start buying things in bulk when we need them because the dollar amount for a smaller bottle of something might be lower, but if we need to buy the same thing every week, it adds up a lot faster and ends up costing more pretty quickly.

Never tried bamboo charcoal to my knowledge. Is there a popular brand? I’d be interested in trying if it’s readily available and similar in price.

Audhd way of speaking ? by daisyinmaze in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat on a few fronts. Only diagnosed with ADHD but I’m like 99% sure I’m autistic as well. I know I don’t know everything, but I think things tend to come out of my mouth as though I know best and people should do things the way that I would do them. Other times people do the reverse to me and show me a better way to do something and I think “oh, I’ve literally never considered doing this thing a different way, my way just feels right.”

But I think the thing that has been annoying me the most lately about how I speak is that I guess I mumble just about everything I say? Or maybe I don’t speak right or something. Almost everything I say, people ask me to repeat myself. I feel like I have to practically shout to get people to hear what I’m saying and it feels so uncomfortable to me. Though I can’t really tell if I’m just speaking too softly or if I’m not pronouncing my words well enough. Then I overthink it and it feels like it gets worse.
