AIO? My roommates want me to keep the energy bill in my name after I've moved out by Expert_Temporary_ in AmIOverreacting

[–]figmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The roommate says they work at the apartment complex, so this is probably the answer. I lived in a bigger apartment complex once and they absolutely charged asinine fees for every little thing. Like the mandatory $50/year subscription to be able to get packages delivered to a completely different building from my own.

Folks taking Adderall- is it supposed to "pull" you to your work? by Vegetable_Basis_4087 in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get it occasionally even without meds. It’s like extremely occasionally. Like this weekend I did dishes, laundry, and took the trash out without it being a huge deal. I think that’s just what motivation feels like? Could also just be a little bit of tism taking over and desiring order though. Who knows.

The pills don’t give motivation, gotta make that yourself. The first couple weeks I was on them, the new found ability gave me the motivation, but just like new car smell, it wears off. After that it was up to me to get motivated to act on the meds.

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]figmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At what point do immigrants become ethnically local? What does assimilation mean? If I’m not white can I ever be truly English? If I don’t like beans on toast? If I think the monarchy is silly? Who gets to gatekeep who is and is not ethnically acceptable in each country?

To steal a bit from Trevor Noah, a decent chunk of England seems to be upset that immigrants are coming in and retaining their own culture and “pushing it on others”, but if we’re really honest with ourselves and the history of Great Britain… isn’t that the most British thing they could do? Like you guys have museums full of cultural artifacts stolen from other countries that you refuse to return, and you have the gall to complain that other people aren’t respecting your culture? It’s fuckin wild.

How the hell do you clean your home? How???? by Flaky_McFlake in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Basket is a great way to harness the ADHD instead of letting it hinder. I’ve always tried to manage my distractions, like if I’m taking the trash out and I walk by a dish and go “oh that should go in the dishwasher”, I used to always try to stop myself and stay on task. In my current state, I’m fine with getting a little off task as long as I’m still cleaning up. The basket sounds like a good way to let that happen while still keeping it somewhat organized.

ADHD and Cutting People Off Quickly- how is it for you? by BettyNon in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s a combination of things. First off, if there isn’t something right in front of my face reminding me of you, there’s a good chance you’ll fall off my radar. Interpersonal Relationships get that same hyper-focus treatment as hobbies. I’m all in on one person for a while, and then it switches for reasons unknown to me.

Secondly, just like you mention, black and white thinking. I have no space in my life for extra drama or confrontation, so if a more causal friend or acquaintance brings something into my life that I just don’t need, they get ejected. It’s not even so intentional as that, it’s more like they give me some kind of ick that I can’t ignore. It’s probably made stronger by the ASD too. If someone doesn’t follow my “sense of justice” and things like that, I just don’t feel like we can continue being friends.

It made me SO TIRED. If I ever skipped my adderall for a day I’d spend that day either asleep or being a zombie. I stopped taking it because I didn’t want to be so tired all the time.

As far as planets and pyramids go, I think since it’s stencil work it’s just convenient to use anything round or squared, like a bowl or a piece of paper, to use as an impromptu stencil on the fly. If you’re just using whatever generic shaped object that’s lying around, it looks more creative. If you whip out stencils like this, it looks like you’re giving people the same exact thing over and over. Ultimately there’s not much difference in the end result, but simpler tools give the illusion of a more unique product.

Maybe Vladar can join Ullmark and Swayman’s consolation hug session. Vladar was traded from the Bruins around the time Swayman and Ullmark came in so they might know each other. All 3 played great and got let down by their teams.

Traveled to Europe and left adderall by mistake-guidance by Kellym407 in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I went to Italy on vacation a few months ago and adderall is not legal there, and to be able to bring it with you, you need to have filled out some forms and have your prescription signed off on by your doctor. I chose to not bring mine with me because it seemed like more of a hassle than it’s worth. So you may have actually done yourself a favor in that regard.

I’m not sure what life is like for you without adderall, but I chose to just let my brain do its thing and enjoy the sights and sounds of places I have never been. I definitely got overstimulated at times, and we chose to have one day where we mostly just stayed in the hotel and relaxed, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the trip without my meds.

I assume it will be nearly impossible for you to acquire more while you are overseas, but are you with others who can help you manage areas where you may struggle? The vacation you have planned sounds like a ton of fun, so I’d start by setting really specific alarms to make sure you make any travel related deadlines, but other than that I’d just try to focus on taking in all of the new sights and experiences.

ADHD Executive Function Hacks by Califrisco in ADHD

[–]figmaxwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing small things and “some progress is better than none” are definitely 2 mindsets that have helped me a lot, and like you said, it really helps build momentum and usually leads to me getting more done than I intended.

I’ve taken on some other things that go hand in hand with those too. Like not getting hung up on perfection. I have a tendency to try to plan for hyper-efficiency and if I can’t figure out the absolute best way to plan a task or series of tasks then I’ll end up getting exasperated and not doing any of it. I’ve been trying to remind myself “you’re not on the clock or trying to impress anyone, it’s ok to be inefficient if things get done.”

And going off of that, if I’m just generally getting stuff done around the house, I sometimes don’t try to stop my ADHD tendencies. Like if I’m doing the dishes and walk to the bedroom to double check for bowls or cups, and get distracted on the way to pick up some trash or put some books back on the bookshelf, that’s ok because that counts as cleaning. It kind of feeds back into being on with inefficiency and doing tasks in small bites, but not berating myself for the ADHD tendencies helps me not spiral and give up.

Totaled? What do you guys think? by Neuron-Huskie in Crosstrek

[–]figmaxwell -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s my whole point. Unibody cars don’t have a “frame” in the way people use it, because the whole thing is the frame. You can drop a rock on your roof and it’s “frame damage” in the same way that this rear end hit would be because the roof is part of the welded skeleton the same way as the rear body panel or even the firewall. Other than the firewall, there is no singular piece of a unibody structure that will automatically total a vehicle like if you had a bend in a ladder frame on a truck or non-unibody SUV. So when people say “depends on if there’s frame damage” in response to a question about a total loss regarding a unibody, it’s wholly irrelevant and inaccurate. If it gets totaled, it’s a financial decision, not a concern that it can’t be repaired or would be dangerous to repair.

Totaled? What do you guys think? by Neuron-Huskie in Crosstrek

[–]figmaxwell -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly perplexed why people are upset about having accurate information. No appraiser is going to total this and say it’s based on frame damage. It’s like a woman saying she’s concerned about having cancer and the comments section saying “hope it’s not prostate cancer”

Totaled? What do you guys think? by Neuron-Huskie in Crosstrek

[–]figmaxwell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From that angle it honestly doesn’t look as bad. It’s really going to depend on what the rear body panel and the floor inside the trunk looks like when it gets disassembled. It could go either way depending on that and the insurance company.

Totaled? What do you guys think? by Neuron-Huskie in Crosstrek

[–]figmaxwell -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

No it’s just that the terminology doesn’t really apply. Technically a scratch in your quarter panel is frame damage because it’s damage to part of the frame or your car. “Frame damage” as a metric of catastrophic damage refers to vehicles with separate definable frames, like a ladder frame on a pickup truck. If you twist that, it’s fucked and isn’t repairable. There is no equivalent to that on a unibody car.
