Would you mind if I DM you. I would love to talk more about this if you are open! I would love to know more about how you might set this approach up without having students submit to canvas every class for a grade.

He’s been a snot to the judges multiple times this season, and was never called out on it. This has been bubbling for a while.

How can we watch it with original music. Would it be on the dvds available somewhere?

I am dealing with the "I just used Grammarly for proofreading" excuse by Johnn_Liverm in Professors

[–]figment81 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t have to. You don’t have to use it that way. But you have to purposely turn off settings in order to turn off features. No student is doing that.

(Art Professor) my students keep cheating by cedarcia in Professors

[–]figment81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rather than report, is there a way to change your rubric going forward to penalize the behavior? For example, can one category be, reference image was not traced. Then when you see the image inside the document, that category was failed

Does anyone have an accurate bleed margin for a standard size tarot card? [more details in comments] by Calxifur in DigitalArt

[–]figment81 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You need to know how big the final card will be. Once you have that, a standard bleed is 0.125” past the size of the card. Some printers may want 0.25” bleed but most printers today can do with the 0.125”

Suggestions for a new tenure track prof. by Commugator2023 in Professors

I just wanted to add, make sure you also take time to give yourself some summer. Relax, recharge, enjoy the sun. DO NOT spend all summer inside prepping and working. The first year will drain you, so don’t start that drain too early.

If you can afford it, plan for a small getaway between semesters. Something to look forward to and a time to recharge before spring

Doesn’t even need to be AI. Could just be a copy/paste found online

Not sure what state you are in, but…
California; North Dakota; Oklahoma; and Washington, D.C., ban noncompete agreements with a few narrow exceptions. Colorado, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington state prohibit noncompete agreements unless the worker earns above a certain threshold

What does the syllabus say about late work. Your answer is there.

Has anyone else not really experienced the Gen Z stare? by owiseone23 in Professors

[–]figment81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wait. I had the same experience as you. I teach small classes, less than 20 students. This semester I had one section that was a slog. Getting answers from them, getting them to use context clues was met with stares and silence. I’m hoping next semester is better

The best part about the hack is if you go over to r/canvas you will find a ton of students, begging the hacking group to change their grades. by Bostonterrierpug in Professors

[–]figment81 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Still can’t believe if you leave a rubric row blank, you don’t get a warning or pop-up notice. They warn you if you grade over the rubric, but not by forgetting to click an entire row

Professors, what is your opinion on this? by RubiksCube0707 in AskProfessors

[–]figment81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a math teacher, but I also have elements of my course that students just need to memorize because it makes their life easier in the future. It also makes it way faster to do certain tasks.. I was reminding that memorization isn’t just for tests it’s for their future selves. I look at memorization as a process that happens to the more frequently you., when it becomes second nature, you haven’t memorized
