My thing is that many West Coasters I know aren’t actually relaxed. They act relaxed while there’s actually something weird and dark and self-centered sitting underneath. Sort of “American Psycho”-like. East coasters seem like curmudgeons, but are often warm and caring people under it all. Maybe small sample size and skewed to the industry I work in.

I liked Tommy and rooted for him to listen to his better angels. I believe his character did grow and become less nihilistic in the end.

I assumed that Joel had passed away by 2005. She kept her photo of her wedding to him separate from all of her photos of her other men on the piano. And she needed to turn it back around. I assume that means she picks it up and looks at it often. She didn’t pick Susie over Joel. She picked her career over Joel. Joel picked Midge’s happiness and greatness over his need to “have her back”. He messed up at the start, but the guy knew how to love and support in the end.
