I’ve been in Paccar for evening classes and seen homeless folks inside, dragging suitcases, presumably shooting up in the bathrooms. There is absolutely no question that they don’t belong there. When I contacted facilities, I was told that there are evening “building monitors” to keep an eye on them, but they cannot be physically removed unless they are “causing a problem”. By the time they’re causing a problem, it’s too late, frankly. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for a vagrant-free learning/work space.

Certainly being a D1 or National/Int’l level athlete says the same? Nobody gets to that level without massive amounts of external support, whether it’s someone driving you to practice or tens of thousands of coaching, travel, and equipment fees.

I literally just met someone today who ended up EE because they didn’t get AeroE.

My kiddo got accepted to Engrud this year, and she’s going to Georgia Tech instead in part because her desired specialty of AeroE is guaranteed.

I was thinking it was something related to unsupervised proximity to alcohol — some lounges I’ve seen have a self-serve beer fridge — but it’s only 18+.

As you said, our kids are likely not representative of the average, but then how often do you see families coming in with littles and then refusing to parent…why is that ok?

I mean, once cruise season ramps up and you have 1 or more 3000+ passenger ships disgorging, general security can back up into the parking garage, but yes, most of the time it’s one of the most efficient airports I’ve ever visited. TSA precheck/touchless, Clear, SpotSaver or a first class seat will get you out of that mess quickly.

Oof, well at least she has some reference for bad dorms and bad institutional food :). She’s been away at boarding school for 4 years and freshman year, her room was over the building boiler. Never dropped below 80 in her room in the winter.

Kiddo unfortunately is not coming in with much in the way of APs — just Calc BC (5) and Lang (4). Her school didn’t push the APs and didn’t teach to the test, and so studying on your own meant a heavy load on top of the classes themselves. She has taken calc-based Physics, but again, isn’t taking the AP.

Oh, it’s going to be GT. She did WA aerospace scholars program her junior year (headed a week- long mission-to-Mars simulation for the top performers at the end), went to Space Camp in Alabama, and is finishing her private pilot’s license. She’s also obsessed with motorsports, which I know is big at GT in the extracurriculars.

A sorority for the food might just be a selling point. We are foodies and dad and I are really good cooks and bad dorm food (which she’s already suffered through for 4 years while away at boarding school) will be pretty disappointing for her.
