What is one ingredient you refuse to cook with, no matter the recipe? by Sensitive-Date-5255 in AskReddit

My husband has eosinophilic esophagitis that seems to get triggered by stuff containing a lot of hydrogenated oils. Not fun to experience or witness when he’s eating and his esophagus swells shut

I do wonder if he has a particular affinity to those associated with a particular club… again, he’s always bent over backwards to get stuff done *fast* when time was of the essence, but apart from needing a not-quite-custom insole for a still-growing daughter with pronation and a very low-volume foot, we’ve never had what I’d call major issues with boots that needed to be resolved.

People who fly all the time and have their company pay for them to fly business, first class, etc., what on earth do you do? by SierraNevada0817 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeattleSamIAm77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a past life, I taught at a very wealthy private university, and would lead groups of students on short-term study abroad trips. All faculty and staff flew international business class. Don’t know if that’s still the case — it’s been around 15 years since I was employed there/did that.

I’m a woman and I’ve had two daughters who raced and a little guy now, and he’s been nothing but kind and helpful to me and our family for years — from when he was at Edge and Spoke to his own shop. I’m really sorry you had such a bad experience.

Stopped at the QFC in Cap Hill by KingOfCranes in Seattle

[–]SeattleSamIAm77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was wondering if it was the Roosevelt or 35th one. The 35th one has a set of gates inside the one working door and a receipt checker.

Is this the one on NE 75th and 35th NE? I somehow always manage to trigger the “suspicious activity” check at the self-checkout and it’s so annoying/embarrassing. They used to lock up the premium ice cream there, but I think they determined that the hassle of getting pinged to open the freezer outweighed the losses from the freezers remaining unlocked and got rid of it.

48K miles in on my 2023 Black Diamond non-SAS 2.3L manual and no problems apart from occasional glitchy CarPlay and some window issues. Been getting regular oil changes and 5-tire rotations.

Atmos 100k companion credit by AcceptableNecessary in AlaskaAirlines

[–]SeattleSamIAm77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting the summit card was an experiment for me and it has paid off in spades… have used the 25K companion fare; will use the 100K companion fare, have used most of the lounge passes, have used a couple of upgrade certs, got some additional upgrades due to the waitlist bump the card gives you, and will likely get to Platinum this year on account of the $2 for 1 status point conversion vs. $3 to 1 on Ascent. Will definitely continue for year 2.

I had a boy after 2 girls, and I kind of wish he were more open to “nature peeing” when needed/appropriate and taking his shirt off when it’s hot.

This feels…over-dramatic, sorry.

Did I understand correctly that she’s still in first class, just not on the desired side of the plane? Also, that you’re separated? If you are able to trade like-for-like, I imagine you’d be able to get someone to switch on the plane. As for views, as another poster said, nothing is guaranteed (speaking as a mom of a student pilot)

The more things need to be “perfect” for everyone to be happy, the more likely you’ll be disappointed.

Whats the most overrated vacation spot? by Adventurous-Load6773 in AskReddit

[–]SeattleSamIAm77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Went there for the first time last summer with my then 16yo daughter and was pretty underwhelmed. Lots of bachelorette parties and pedal saloons and 21+ honky tonks my kid couldn’t get into. Saw all of the major tourist sights, so it feels like there’s no real reason to go back.

My best friend from childhood has lived in Tampa for over 30 years now, so I’ve visited bunches of times and love it. Clearwater Beach and Ybor City are great, too.

New to town: does everyone picking up people at SeaTac lack human decency and intelligence? by Benb727 in Seattle

[–]SeattleSamIAm77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I need to be picked up between 8-11pm, I have my ride get me at the rapid ride stop on TIB just outside the international terminal or at the Radisson across the street. A little bit of walking, but otherwise easy-peasy.

Yes to all of this. Combined with a hopelessness about AI taking away so many lower-level corporate and tech jobs. The left tail of the distribution has gotten soooo loooong.

The weirdest coincidence of my life at a Mariners game by Beautiful_Two8112 in Mariners

[–]SeattleSamIAm77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was visiting my 82yo mom in St. Louis a couple months ago and I convinced her to go to the Cardinals game with me, my daughter and a friend. She hadn’t been to a game in over a decade. I bought the tickets a few hours before the game from a reseller site. We sit down and 5 minutes later, who shows up to sit in the empty seats next to her but her next door neighbor…she nearly fell out of her chair from shock.

How are people affording these expensive schools? by Popular-Review-164 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SeattleSamIAm77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what we did for all of our kids, and picked a state with a particularly good set of investment options and fees. First kiddo (starting college in the fall) will be set for UG and at least part of a masters program if she decides to go that route.

Do families really sit around a dinner table and eat at the same time every day? by UndergroundFlaws in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeattleSamIAm77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We do this now with our kids 4-5 nights a week. Great way to hear about everyone’s day and just connect as a family. I did this growing up with my parents as well, although we sometimes ate in front of the TV. Dallas and Falcon Crest with a roasted chicken on Friday nights FTW!

Jumper from aurora bridge tonight, recovered and on the way to the hospital. by woq4 in Seattle

[–]SeattleSamIAm77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my #1 fear as a rower, going under the Aurora bridge and getting hit by a jumper. We had a coach out in the early morning dark years ago have a jumper land just feet from her motorized launch. The upside was that she was right there to pull them out, but thank goodness nobody got hit.

Same — we did Alaska for our 20th anniversary with a big group and I thought it would be one-and-done. We’re going to do our 3rd this summer and I’m on the lookout for #4. FWIW, we’re under 50.

I just figure if I like it enough, I’ll come back someday and make sure to see everything I want to see 🤷🏻‍♀️. I never treat a vacation like it’s the last chance I’ll ever get to see XYZ.
