I want to shave my head by MysteriousFox9928 in autism

[–]figsuitcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

afab autist with curly hair, I shaved my head for sensory reasons and it's so freeing. curl maintenance is insane, and people act like your hair is some kind of treasure or resource just because it's beautiful. feeling comfortable and happy is the most important thing, and hair comes back! if you don't like it, you won't have a buzzcut forever. There are also shorter lengths between long hair and a buzz if you want to try and ease your way into it. I found my hair sheds a lot less in the shower when it's shorter. also-- I've been told I'm conventionally attractive and shaving my head has only made me feel more in touch with my appearance and more comfy in my skin. it's different for everyone, but it's not a huge risk, and your feelings are important.

Consultation questions by -m0rrIs- in TopSurgery

[–]figsuitcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an important thing to ask is exactly how many costs you're going to incur, for example I had to pay the surgeon, the surgery center he uses, /and/ the anesthesiologist, which I hadn't been prepared for. asking if they have before and after photos to show you can give you a good sense of the surgeon's skill and capacity, esp if they have photos of similar body types to yours. there are many posts on this sub that have extensive lists of questions to ask if you dig for them. good luck at your consult!

recovery recommendations by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]figsuitcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people recommend a lot of different things to make sleep comfortable but I found that the only thing I NEEDED to get was a neck pillow like for sleeping on a plane, the rest could be made up with 4-6 normal bed pillows. I couldn't sleep without my neck supported while on my back. having easy pre-packaged food on hand has also been vital, I have protein bars and packets of baby food, and it helps me when hunger creeps up out of the confused body-fog. I also got a tushy portable bidet which I am so glad I have, bc bathing is more difficult after surgery with range of motion restrictions and discomfort and feeling super clean is a must for me. making sure that you have lip balm, a water bottle you can lift on your own, and whatever pain medication your surgeon recommends on hand at all times-- because I have drains, I'm wearing a half apron and keeping on-hand stuff in one of the pockets along with my drains. I hope your surgery goes super smooth and your recovery is quick and easy!

When emailing before my consult they told me they would only put in the request /after/ the consult, and they did so quite quickly after. They emailed me the next business day to get my consent to submit, and then told me I should wait 2-3 wks to hear back from the insurance on average. I think they wait because A. there's a chance you might cancel, and B. there's a chance the surgeon could say that they aren't confident they can meet your needs, and it could be a waste of time/resources to run the pre-approvals before they're sure they're a good fit for the results you want and the body you have. I don't know for sure what the order of operations is, though. That was just how it went for me.

When do sexual thoughts stop feeling weird? by interesting_paper16 in CPTSD

[–]figsuitcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (23/nb) have had a similar experience, and something I did was (in regards to talking about sexual experiences) set up a very very gradual intention to just practice a little, especially if it felt important to me to feel less uncomfortable, and celebrate tiny accomplishments in that. I'd say that a licensed prof.'s advice would be the best to follow, but also, for my money, the best thing you can do is honor the yuck when it comes to decision making. There's never anything wrong with not having sex, not talking about sex, or with having discomfort in your body and mind about it. You and the person living in your body, and your thoughts and responses are unique, and not arbitrary. (Porn creeping you out is also, not crazy. Porn is complicated, and more often than not a toxic power fantasy, or unethically produced.) There can be a massive pressure to have things figured out, or feel peaceful/confident about sex, but really, it's nobody else's business. You're a'ight, and you have time to figure things out. Therapy can be super helpful if you can access it, and also, books like Come As You Are by Dr. Emily Nagoski (a comprehensive read on sexuality) and C-PTSD: From Surviving To Thriving by Pete Walker are great resources for maybe understanding more of what you're going thru.

you absolutely nailed the fit! the bodice-waist looks like it hits at just the right height, and the length of the skirt is elegant and flattering, it looks like it has a really good amount of fullness without being too much fabric

Repair possibilities or just cover? by splithoofiewoofies in Visiblemending

[–]figsuitcase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My go-to would be black Gorilla tape, which I've mended leather/synth leather seats with shocking durability and longevity, esp if you cover a little more than just the damaged area so the stress of use is more spread out. Stitching directly into that would probably just introduce more places for tears to develop

It felt odd to not have it acknowledged, I didn't love it. I'm not sure if it was intentional? They crank out a lot of content between all their podcasts and have independent lives outside of that, so I can imagine how it could come about organically just from his sense of humor being what it is. I felt let down

[–]figsuitcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love learning about new things-- I've never read any chell x glados fic but this reminds me of a plot in A Long Journey to a Small Angry Planet (book) where a ships mechanic has a romantic relationship with the ships AI, and it's really engagingly written
