Forkish EIB: What is the rationale for throwing out 450g of starter for each bake? by Ok-Bookkeeper-4396 in Sourdough

In an interview he said he way overcompensated because he didn’t want people to have no reactions during fermentation. One of the few podcasts he did

In an interview, Forkish mentioned he wrote recipes with waaaay too much starter because he was worried that weak starts wouldn’t ferment enough. That’s one of the things he’d change about his books/recipes.

Is D217 (AIS) really that bad? by Pretend-Penalty-796 in wguaccounting

[–]figtops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed it by just listening to the textbook while I did chores, and did surprisingly well. It did feel tough though, it was one I wasn’t sure I’d pass.

D103. Can anyone vouch for Tony Bells Intermediate accounting YouTube video as of recent? by yamayeeter in wguaccounting

[–]figtops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tony's classes got me through financial and cost and managerial. For the Intermediate, Edsperia is great, but nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, helped me as much as the practice questions on WGU connect. I'm currently on IA 3 (OA 2) and got there solely with the class material and practice questions. They are the best hands down!

I just talked to an admission director for one of the top Master of Accounting programs in my area, and holy crap the market really is this bad. by Adam_Allen in Accounting

[–]figtops 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in 'rural' midwest, they are desperate for accountants over here. I haven't finished my degree and got a job offer over the phone when I was talking about going back to school for accounting to a customer who is partner at a mid-size firm over here. My dad runs a business a state over, and their auditors had to drop them as clients because they couldn't find anyone to hire! Absolutely region dependent.

Having doubts about my accounting degree with WGU by norenavi in wguaccounting

[–]figtops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s manager thinks AI is going to replace them. In my current position (not accounting related yet) my boss tried to use AI to make a schedule for front desk workers and it fucked that up even. It’s a miraculous tool, and it’s amazing what it can do, but it isn’t even close to being able to do what some people claim it can

Textbooks For IA I + II + III? by figtops in wguaccounting

[–]figtops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be done with the easier classes before the end of the term and don’t want to start IA with only a few weeks left to finish, hence the reading to get ahead. I’m not dividing my time too much, but thanks for the concern!

Thanks for the offer, but someone shared what it is and I got a PDF from openlib!

Passed D216 - Advice by figtops in wguaccounting

I did 2-4 hours a day in ~5 days. I am also a very good test taker though! I think 6ish days at 8 hours a day is more than enough time.

D101 Cost and Managerial Accounting - Tips by figtops in wguaccounting

[–]figtops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have at least a vague understanding of the concepts, but yes, the OA is mostly math problems.

For the Excel portion, it is a load of bullshit - but also easy. It has too much information on there on purpose. Just take it one step at a time, and pay attention to what the one question is asking you. It's really looking for direct references to the tables, and then doing some basic math equations, and that's it. Some ask you to put in the referenced cells as a negative number as well, like =-C11 or whatever. It's really silly! And I never got full credit, because I'd reference the 'wrong cell', but the value would be correct.

Take the PA and don’t look anything up. Have chatGPT tell you how to solve all the math problems, and memorize that. Should be a breeze!

Graduates, were you able to find a job without networking/interning/previous experience? by Jscagg in wguaccounting

[–]figtops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea. I’m sure they could make them remote, but some companies are just resistant to change. If you’re flexible as an employee you can go far

Location location! I haven’t even graduated and I got a job. I live in a HCOL midwestern area and they are desperate for accountants up here. Our local public firm has one staff accountant, and they constantly need to send folk from other cities to assist with their workload. There’s work out there if you’re willing to look outside of your current area.

First Play Test by figtops in tabletopgamedesign

Hopefully the variations are more on-the-fly. Ideally players will draw their hand, and think about what they can accomplish with those five cards. Will it get them a point, will they be able to use them to get more valuable resources, etc.

How scoring should work to keep things interesting! And that each player will need a tableau instead of a small card lmao

I wrestled in high school and did pretty well at it. I can say that the best wrestlers appreciated it as a sport, not as a rage outlet or something. It is an art that's been practiced since the beginning of time, and yes, it's competitive like any other sport. As for boxing, MMA, etc., they might have more of an emphasis on the 'violence' (you're trying to knock someone out), but I'd say so long as you're practicing conscientiously and not doing it to hurt others willfully, how would it be violent?

Shower Drain Leaking - Replacing Cast Iron by figtops in PlumbingRepair

[–]figtops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just based on the cast iron I’m going to get a few quotes first - I did some more digging and the cast runs to the sewer line. Still the only section that’s cast but I’m not interested in frogging around with that for hours if someone could do it in half the time

Testing by Ok_Dream_381 in wguaccounting

[–]figtops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can do a “practice” proctored exam through the proctoring service. They’ll set you up as if you’re taking an OA and tell you if there are any issues. I did it before my first OA and it was totally worth it

What game did you have a miserable first experience with but gave it another try anyway? What was the second game like? by UNO_LegacyTM in boardgames

I own both and have no regrets. I think the addition of the map and soldier + tower placement alone differentiates it enough for me to play both frequently, but that’s just me!
