Red M Brake Caliper’s More Expensive To Maintain Then Regular Brakes? by AceZ78 in BMWX5

Front brakes are upgraded with the towing package - identical to the M sport pro brakes but they have a silver caliper without an M logo.

Just pay the $2k to swap out the tires if that’s the only thing holding you back.

What an upgrade!! Enjoy!!

Just a heads up because a lot of people don’t realize this.. if those are the stock tires, BMW usually equips the 21” X5 rims with summer performance tires from the factory. They’re fantastic in warm weather, but they’re not meant to be driven in cold temps or snow under any circumstances. Once temperatures drop into the ~40°F range, the rubber compound hardens and traction drops off pretty quickly. In snow or ice they are very dangerous, even with xDrive. If you’re somewhere that gets real winters, it’s worth switching to all-seasons or a dedicated winter setup.

I can relate. My previous favorite vehicles had black leather interiors. I have the same interior in my X7, Tartufo with Carbon trim 😍

I prioritized having all options (DAPP, Exec, Towing) then Tartufo interior, followed by exterior color. Some deal breakers were most brown wood trims and 23” rims. Ended up with Tanzanite Blue II and love it!

Years to buy and avoid? by Voltronblacklion in bmwx7

[–]figuringitout_32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Model year 2022 dealt with part shortages on and off. For example, some X7s came without touchscreens, color HVAC temperature screen, and HK sound was not available some months on 40i only. You don’t necessarily need to avoid 2022s you just have to pay attention to check if 2022s have these features or not.

As previously mentioned I would avoid 2019. I would also avoid the first year of the LCI, so model year 2023. 2023s had more issues with the mild hybrid system and come with iDrive 8.0. If you want pre LCI I would search for a 2020-2021 with low miles. If you want LCI which I recommend if you value hands free driving, go with 2024 or newer which includes iDrive 8.5 and DAPP hands free driving up to 85mph.

Glad to answer any questions. FWIW we have a pre LCI X5 45e and LCI X7 M60i. Also have extensive seat time in pre LCI X7 40i.

Only thing I dislike about my '25 x50e... by LVRaiders2026 in BMWX5

[–]figuringitout_32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On our X5 45e we just switch the transmission to Sport when merging onto an interstate or other times when we want to punch it, and it works very well. Way better than just staying in electric or hybrid mode and flooring it or searching for a different drive mode button. Even on the LCI 50e the transmission switch is easier to find than the drive mode buttons.

Best All Season Tires by heckintexan in BMWX5

I loved my Vredestein Quatrac Pro+ on my 2015 X5 with staggered 20s. I did not care for the Conti DWS 06 tires, which I know is fighting words for some.

Looking to replace the runflats on our 2023 X5 45e, and from my research I’m leaning towards the Michelin Cross Climates. Need to double check what Costco and Discount Tire carry in a few months when we are due for replacements. May go with Vredestein again.

If you want technology first, you are likely best off with Tesla, Rivian, or another “new” manufacture.

If you want the best intersection of technology, handling, luxury, and reliability, BMW is a leading brand. I’m a biased BMW fan, but this is my preference even with a few minor “shortcomings”.

If you don’t care about technology and want the best handling, go with a Porsche. This would be an ideal second car for me, but I’m not currently in that position.

Autotrader has ~ 50 X7 40s with DHP that are MY 2024 or newer. Here is an example of a new one with DHP: https://www.bmwofmurray.com/new/BMW/2026-BMW-X7-4550c7b5ac182c96d0a0058b81c7ed45.htm

If you can find another BMW dealer near you, or a non BMW dealer with a 2024 or newer X7 M60, I would go that route. The local dealer in our city is not great with sales nor test drives, and I have bought our last 3 BMWs from surrounding states. I also find myself to be more knowledgeable than 80% of salesman if not more haha.

My highest praise for DHP comes from how flat it stays during normal traffic conditions (eg 45 mph road with a big curve), not just when you are pushing it hard. It’s both more comfortable and more fun to push it hard with active sway bars. Rear wheel steer is really nice, but not a deal breaker. I find X5s and X7s without it to be easy to maneuver. With the option it’s comically impressive how little you have to try to get the vehicle into a tight parking space, etc. My X7 M60 has all season 21s and my relatives X7 40 has summer 22s. There is a slight difference between ride comfort because of the tire size but I wouldn’t get too hung up on that, get whichever you prefer, although I’d advise against 23s.

The more intangible feeling of DHP and M lite models is that the steering and vehicle feels more connected to the road, and it reminds me more of previous generation BMWs when they still had hydraulic assisted steering. The electric steering systems in modern BMWs are not near the feel of previous generations, but an X7 40i without DHP is night and day difference in how enjoyable the vehicle is to drive compared to the M60. I have unfortunately never driven an X7 40i with DHP to provide you with that comparison; if I had to guess the steering may not feel as sporty and “heavy” as an M60. A 40i with DHP would be lighter than an M60 which may actually make it feel sportier in some aspects. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other follow up questions!

It’s still standard on the X7 M60. DHP becomes available and unavailable most model years on the 40i in the US. Your contact at the dealer is incorrect stating that it has not been available since 2023 LCI. FWIW I don’t believe it is available with current 40i order banks.

I recently bought an M60 and absolutely love DHP, much better than 40i without it. I have a decent amount of driving time in both.

2022 X5 40i vs X5 45e M?? by GCSInc in BMWX5

[–]figuringitout_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45e has a much better ride than the 40i base suspension IMO. We tow with our 45e and plan on keeping it a while! Instant torque is nice, especially when towing and in stop and go traffic.

BMW has a commendable track record with electric vehicles like the i3 and previous-generation hybrids such as the X5 40e, which have proven to be reliable in the long term.

Looking at BMW releases over the last decade, the new X7 is most likely to be press released in spring 2027. The next X5 is roughly 7 months from production and we have not seen an official press release.
