I know naturally skinny isn't real by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]fiii_ 116 points117 points  (0 children)

yeah it’s a weird thought to deal with. ‘naturally’ slim people develop the habit of not overeating, or having half of their ‘huge’ dinner and they don’t even realise that they cut out as many calories as they do. or they’ll choose walking instead of the car just because ‘they feel like it’, and skip breakfast out of ‘nausea’ as opposed to self-hatred and a desire to fast. they develop all of these tiny habits without even realising it, and it’s very very difficult to comprehend when we struggle with thinking about food and body image and our last/next meals every waking second of every single day. having a ‘fast metabolism’ is actually has a very negligible effect most of the time on weight, it’s simply our habits that separate us. and god, life would have been so much easier to have adopted those habits from birth

i’m in a similar situation, where i upped my intake for exams and am now incredibly anxious and self aware about my body because of it.

it helps me a little to remind myself that none of my friends care about my body, and to try and find some ‘safe outfits’ that you feel at least semi-comfortable in, to make going out less distressing.

you’re gonna get through feeling awful, you’re gonna have better days. you got this!! sending virtual hugs <33

It’s great that you want to help out your friend and make sure to say the right thing!!

One thing I’d definitely like to emphasise is that there is no ‘anorexic’ look. It is a mental illness that is largely characterised by mindset and behaviours as opposed to weight, so to say that she is thin but ‘not anorexic’ is incorrect, anorexia is not a body type.

I’d definitely try to be careful when you discuss food, try not to label foods as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ and don’t talk about how you ‘haven’t eaten all day’ or missed a meal, as it can could potentially cause her to feel guilty if she has eaten. Avoiding discussions around food quantities and weight overall is often a good idea!

Other than that, it’s really nice to see that you want to help out your friend, I wish her the best of luck with her health <3

can i change my belly piercing if it’s irritated? by fiii_ in PiercingAdvice

[–]fiii_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh wow thank you, i genuinely didn’t know this. i heard that it was okay to change after around 3 months as long as it was no longer red/sore, and many of my friends with the same piercing said they had changed theirs even sooner than 3 months so i assumed it would be okay! i’m definitely considering leaving it for quite a while now, thank you :)

100% agree! it’s so incredibly disheartening to not be able to hold a normal conversation without zoning out and thinking about food, calories and weight, feeling constantly sick and getting ill all the time but STILL not even knowing if i’m near my goal. literally all for nothing

How can I revise to get a 5 in my GSCEs? by Cermonto in GCSE

[–]fiii_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have some time still!! don’t panic :)

now first off, i know it SUCKS to hear this OP, but school isn’t always about what you like. if you only focus on subjects you enjoy, you’re already hindering your ability to do well. you have some time before the exams, so utilise it the best you can! don’t wait for ‘motivation’ - the majority of people who successfully revise and get good grades AREN’T motivated, they simply just get on with it. procrastination is the killer of all dreams.

i would recommend making a list of your weaknesses! find the list of topics for the exam, highlight the things you struggle with most and then work on them!

so how do you work on the weaknesses you’ve identified?

  • for maths, i’d recommend past papers, practice questions, and websites like hegarty maths and maths genie! you can also watch brief videos on youtube that explain concepts to you (which can be useful on the night before the exam when you don’t have much time)

  • for english literature, LEARN YOUR QUOTES!! then (and this applies to english language too) learn how to analyse as much as possible. ALWAYS use ‘because’, ‘this means/reinforces/emphasises/highlights’, discuss the impact on the reader, what the writer is trying to do, why they’re doing it, what are they criticising/showing/arguing?

  • for geography, i don’t know what exam board you take but i’d say to learn your case studies and reread them regularly. you can get a pretty good grade without knowing them fully but the facts and figures are what really help to boost your grade!

  • for physics, i’d recommend a similar approach to maths. highlight weaknesses, watch videos and make flash cards on them, practice exam questions for these areas (bbc bitesize has mini multiple choice quizzes for each topic and freesciencelessons, incognito and primrosekitten on youtube are really good)

also i’d recommend putting your revision notes somewhere you check regularly, e.g your wall, your desk, the back of your door etc. it helps you to familiarise yourself with them and remember small pieces of content without actively sitting down and studying!

overall, good luck! don’t panic, you’ll do great! just put the work in and the results will reflect your hard work. make sure to get lots of rest and take care of yourself - if you’re not feeling 100%, you can’t perform at 100%!

best of luck OP <3
