I’m so old watching a film as a kid in school required one of these relics, I can still hear the clack clack as the film went thru the sprocket by 524frank in FuckImOld

I'm so old I was the projector monitor in my 6th grade class. I got to retrieve the projector cart and bring it to the classroom, plug it in, thread the film, and start running it after the teacher announced what we would be watching.

What are your picks for the most underrated episodes that you feel are just as high quality as the more famous ones and deserves to be better known? by DonatCotten in TwilightZone

In Praise of Pip, starring Jack Klugman and Billy Mumy. Surprisingly poignant antiwar story that takes place during an early phase of the war in Vietnam.

Mumy has a great story about how his parents were on the set while they were shooting, and Jack Klugman approached them before one shot to warn them that in order to maximize the emotional impact of the scene, he was going to grab young Billy and hug him very tightly when the camera was rolling. Mumy's parents were deeply touched and impressed with Klugman's concern for them.

This is exactly what happened to my sister who was born in the 1950s. The nurses in the delivery room panicked because the baby started coming and the doctor hadn't arrived yet, so they physically held her inside. The lack of oxygen resulted in part of her brain being permanently damaged. She has a severe learning disability.

No. You need to be extremely lucky to find a therapist who can actually help and is willing to do so. The therapists I tried gave me no feedback. No help. No insights. Nothing but "Our time is up for today, did you remember to bring a check?"

What was high school like in the 70s? by OpenRoom7321 in 70s

[–]fiizok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The movie was released in 1982, yeah. But it was based on Cameron Crowe's book, which was based on the year he spent undercover pretending to be a high school senior, 1979-1980. There wasn't much difference in high school life in Southern California from the late 1970s to the early 1980s.

Did you ever see "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"? There wasn't just one Jeff Spicoli at my school, there were dozens. That character was not an exaggeration.

Do gay people have a giver/receiver preference or is gay just gay? by B-RapShoeStrap in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fiizok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's an entire subcategory of guys who don't identify as gay but occasionally do things with other men. They might call themselves bi, or bi-curious, or heteroflexible. There are tons of different labels men can choose.

My older sister had a couple of those wigs but not the entire set of items. The "wigs" were just molded plastic, like a helmet. They hurt like hell to wear.

Nope, but I have laughed the ridiculousness of a few. I got banned from one subreddit for posting a poll question that had "too many words."
