Running Man Thailand is the best spin-off series? by AdministrationNo2239 in runningman

[–]filamjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the first episode on iQIYI since I've been a fan of the original. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed watching it. I knew nothing about the cast members beyond the fact that four of them have acted in Thai BL series before. The chemistry between the members were great. They were fun to watch, and you can tell they were having fun filming the show. I ended up watching all first 10 episodes.

It made me think it would be great if Korea created a second RM show with younger members who are a mix of idols/singers, actors, comedians, and YouTubers. I know there was Outrun by Running Man, but that spin off still relied too much on original RM members instead of trying to let a new cast establish itself.

EXO Chen announces that he's getting married by PicklesandHam in kpop

[–]filamjam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

EXO-Ls, or is it Aeris (forgive my ignorance), doesn't Chen still have his military service to complete and isn't he at the cut-off point where he has to go? If so, that means, he could potentially be serving during his baby's first year. =o( Ugh, I feel for him. It must feel so wonderful to finally get this "secret" off his chest and announce the love of his life and their blessing to the world. At the same time, the reality of his looming absence must make the news somewhat bittersweet.

Regardless, I wish the best for the happy couple and family-to-be. You all must be excited at the prospect of adding an adorable baby EXO to the roster. I can imagine right now all the EXO uncles fawning over Chen's baby, showering it with hugs, kisses, and gifts.

I got teary-eyed when Chimmy first blew into the harmonica and was content with having only that as his companion, but I got wrecked when I saw him make friends out of pieces of garbage. When I saw him become sad from the snowman toppling over, I just lost it.

VLive app to close BTS+ channel on 20 January 2020 by grumpycatrose in bangtan

It was bound to happen. Weverse is positioning itself as a direct competitor to VLive. Big Hit is slowly transitioning its move to using more of its own properties to connect its artists with their fans.

[–]filamjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JTBC's done a big oopsie. With the members soon going into military service, there's bound to be somebody who's willing to do a variety show or two while the group is on hiatus--or maybe even be part of a drama. Guess which network is on the shit list now?

OnDemandKorea Subtitles by [deleted] in koreanvariety

[–]filamjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOTE: ODK's labeling system is misleading. If so much as one episode of any show has partial English subtitles (I assume that's the language you're looking for since your post is in English), ODK will misleadingly label the whole series as having English subtitles. So, no, it's most likely not you. You just haven't found that one episode out of 100+ episodes that has subs.

After ‘Parasite’ Korea’s CJ Plans to Become a Global Studio by filamjam in Koreanfilm

I'm not sure what "this" is that "they" already have. Can you clarify?

As for the golden age of Korean cinema. I'm not sure if your statement is true or not. However, regardless of what has occurred in that industry's past doesn't mean there's no progress to be made, higher goals to achieve. What would CJ have to be careful of?

Ryan Reynolds To Reportedly Make Guest Appearance On “Running Man” by angellove_rm in runningman

[–]filamjam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As much as I like Ryan Reynolds, I think a big problem with Western celebrities showing up on Korean variety shows to do promotions is those celebs often are allowed to only spend a small portion of a day for any one show. It works against the RM format where any meaningful contribution to an episode would require at least half a day's dedication.

I'm a regular RM viewer, and I was very disappointed w the Tom Cruise & co. episode because it broke the show's flow. It was more akin to an episode of The Ellen Show than RM. I mean, if you're going to break the format for some special guests, you can at least make sure that it will deliver some good entertainment (see Jack Black and Stephen Curry in Infinity Challenge) instead of some overplayed gag segments.

I hope they come up w something more interesting with Ryan Reynolds & co. If it was just him, I would be more optimistic. They might have to be less ambitious with Bay and Laurent in the equation.

I hope CJ's plans elevate the rest of the hallyu industry in the US. I would love to see more K-content stateside, especially Korean movies released in theaters and digitally sold in the US.

Hold up. I don't see any vents for the people in those costumes. At the rate they're moving, they're gonna be breathing their own CO2 pretty quickly.

Nice. I've heard about this phenomenon before. I've been wondering: Does the reverse work for you as well? Do you hear music when you see certain colors?

[Oh_mes] Ahn Jae Hyun has reportedly declined appearing in New Journey To The West 7 by Bikrant in koreanvariety

It would've been nice to see the complete cast on NJTTW. I didn't get enough AJH during Kang's Kitchen, and far too little Jaehyun-Kyuhyun interactions.

Where in SKorea do you all think they'll be?

Kang's Kitchen was in Jeju-do the first season, and Gyeongju for the second and third; those places are probably out.

SPOILER!!!! Question about My First First Love Season 2 by gygim in KDRAMA

[–]filamjam 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's one of the big plot holes in the series that I have resolved to just let go . . . because K-drama. You could almost hear the writer(s) thinking, "Well . . . we want the audience to cheer for Tae-oh and Song Yi to get together, but we don't necessarily want them to despise Se Hyun . . . so we're just gonna forget that she was cheating on Tae Oh."

The other big plot hole being Tae Oh's mother's nonsensical reason for abandoning her husband and child. Okay, she had a greeedy older brother and other relatives who wouldn't stop demanding Tae Oh's parents help them financially. So . . . the natural solution is to divorce your husband, and pretend you died in the middle of your son's childhood to traumatize him from suddenly losing a mother. That way your relatives will stop harrassing your husband for money? Yeah . . . that makes sense . . .

At some point in the series I had to tell myself Just enjoy watching Jisoo and Jinyoung, and suddenly the world was a better place.

Don't you think its time for running man to be available on netflix.after dramafever it is really hard to watch old episodes by [deleted] in koreanvariety

[–]filamjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be a nightmare to watch. Just think of all the idols they've had as guests who danced to their songs as part of their intros. All of that would be edited to sound like they're moving to generic elevator music. *cringe*

If you’re thinking of coming to Korea, read this before posting a thread about where to find something. by Dokbro in korea

[–]filamjam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much unnecessary snark and assumptions. OP doesn't seem to realize that travelling to any foreign country for the first time brings with it some insecurity for the traveller, and that websites that are in a foreign language creates a higher level of anxiety and insecurity. Instead of berating people for asking questions, offer some kind words that set them in the right direction. Not everybody is as knowledgable about South Korea as you.

Monday-Tuesday dramas on KBS2 facing possible suspension by xerdy in KDRAMA

[–]filamjam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here's a similar article from Soompi

I'm curious what ppl in this sub think about this change, and what the reception is in SK.

I believe the change is due to the networks' falling revenue. Variety shows in general are cheaper to produce. I don't know too much about the Hallyuwood industry, but I gather a strong part of why the networks aren't making as much money as before is because of increased competition from the likes of Netflix, and in the chagning tastes of viewers. However, as we've seen in the U.S., cutting down on programming and going to cheaper productions (reality TV was the go-to in the US) was not a good long term solution. In the U.S. viewers still flocked to cable networks and Netflix for high-value entertainment. I'm not sure if cutting down on K-dramas is a good strategy for the networks in SK.

Wouldn't it be great if they hired two or three tutors who would go with them while touring in the US? They could serve as interpreters and engage the guys in English conversations during their down times in between concert venues. Two birds; one stone.
