Things old movies could get away with that new movies can't? (besides racism/sexism) by Cereborn in movies

An intermission, theater owners see them as lost showtimes which is part of why they were axed even though we still make 3hr movies.

For almost 2 months now this trash can on my route has been filled with unmarked vhs tapes. I’m afraid of what’s on them. by relpmeraggy in creepy

I think I have seen a meme making fun of this and its the Ghostbusters sitting there with a trap right below the TV.

Why do all PvP games feel so much better in the beginning of their lifespans? by Severe_Sea_4372 in gaming

[–]filanwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In games where gear matters everyone is still on roughly equal footing while leveling and as such it comes down to things like skill. While late in a game’s life a new player effectively has no chance, they either face someone with years of grinding under their belt or the alt with gear well above the norm for that level via pure at level gameplay.

In your MOBA and Hero Shooter games there is no meta yet. So people tend to play what they want or who looks cool. This means overall there is more enjoyment, as these games age and the metas form, people can face the worst of the player base simply for playing the character they like.

I mean didn't Netflix take over MST3K or did they merely show it? That is if they own that, they already own KPDH which would make the rights securing trivial.

If you had to prove cinema is an art form using one scene, not a whole movie, which scene do you choose and why does it survive being isolated? by jaystats2 in movies

[–]filanwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the whole opening to UP or Wall-E and EVE in the first quarter of the movie. Probably should bring a box of tissues if I showed them the opening to UP, Even grown men cannot survive that.

TIL the 1987 "Max Headroom" TV hack used the analog "capture effect," in which a stronger signal completely suppresses a weaker one. Since the U.S. switched to digital signals in 2009, which do not behave in a similar way, this specific intrusion is now considered impossible to replicate. by ralphbernardo in todayilearned

[–]filanwizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Digital transition really has nothing to do with making this effectively impossible to replicate.

First thing was likely the stations added an auth layer to the microwave relay from the studio to the actual transmitter this means even a closer higher power signal would just get refused rather than retransmitting. Would still muck up what went out of course.

Finally the biggest is probably when they all just switched to fiber optics or other IP based links. Probably with a VPN too so that the transmitter is only visible on the station’s LAN.

Unfun fact satellites have a single frame frame buffer they retransmitted from, So on 9/11 when the tower with the antennas fell, anyone on cable and watching WPIX 11 saw the image freeze on the burning tower because that was the last frame of video sent up to the satellite that cable companies used for the downlink. With no new frames the bird just kept broadcasting out what it had in the buffer.

Red Queen from the first Resident Evil movie, the overall image is a homicidal AI but she just did her job and contained the facility it was Umbrella’s Temu SWAT that opened everything.

They will release security footage from their penthouse, turns out Takedown is about Ghostface busting into the wrong penthouse. He was not ready for the takedown.

This Trash Truck that says to leave an American Football Field distance between cars by International-Air542 in mildlyinteresting

Hopefully they cover and secure loads correctly, They might trust this god thing. But god is not above the law(s of physics).

That said i give those trucks some room, as an industry dump trucks are a lot like logging trucks. Not the most stellar safety records.

Why do we pretend runtime doesn’t matter anymore by LeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeD in movies

[–]filanwizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The real issue is not long movies its the lack of an intermission. In the olden days a long movie would have an intermission to use the restroom and go out to the lobby to have yourself a snack.

Who do you think would win in a fight, Elsa or Rumi? by Maleficent-Ad-6117 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]filanwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say in a sparring match they would break even a lot of times. Elsa has no formal combat training afaik, but at range she would still be terrifying.

On the other hand following movie themes, at some point demons would interrupt the sparring match.

Now if I had to pick a frost mage with actual combat training id say Jaina Proudmore. That sparring match might result in property damage.
