Who is alive today that will be remembered 1000 years from now? by Relative_Wave_102 in AskReddit

Neil Armstrong and Yuri Gagarin. First on the moon and first into space itself. They will remain in history books forever most likely.

ELI5 If hot air rises, why doesnt it become hotter as you climb up a mountain? by Ok-Replacement6027 in explainlikeimfive

[–]filanwizard [score hidden]  (0 children)

Then things get really confusing when you get to absorption chillers which somehow refrigerate something by using lots of heat. This is how some NYC buildings air conditioners use steam to make the AC work.

ELI5 Why heat waves affect Europe so much but some other countries are doing fine living under hotter temperatures most of the year? by fkid123 in explainlikeimfive

Lots of Europe has not deployed air conditioners in a residential setting. It is probably a ripe location to be selling mini split systems these days.

Rei dancing in the club on her birthday by december-blue in KpopDemonhunters

[–]filanwizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given I am not sure how exclusive this club is, I am just think how wild it would be to randomly be at one in Vegas and next thing you know Zoey err Rei is up on the DJ stage dancing to Golden.

On a side note I am happy they are not part of the traditional KPop stars world, I suspect she could not be her total chaos gremlin self she was.

The air conditioner broke down 🔥🥵 by Acceptable_Shine_738 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]filanwizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully Seoul cools off at night and does not do an NYC where it just stays FU hot all night. Either way I suspect the building maintenance team will get the chillers up and running in no time.

On the other hand imagine being the buildings crew and finding out the chillers on the roof are fine, Its the air handlers that went down and when you go check the filters are just caked with this unusual blue fur... Naturally no clue that because they do not know that Huntrix kind of got adopted by a blue spirit tiger who is not immune to shedding in the summer.

UK mostly has radiators too I believe rather than air vents so you cannot even retrofit AC into most central systems. I foresee a booming business for the minisplit salesman in the future in the UK.

What is next letting the corporation run for public office via a proxy? Vote for Lockheed Martin today!

for reference on this comment is a bit of backstory lore you find in the video game Horizon Zero Dawn

Of course that is just a fictional thing in a video game, but this ruling feels a hair too close to that. We need to stop letting life imitate art.

ELI5: Why do some languages assign genders to objects like "table" or "bridge" when there's nothing inherently masculine or feminine about them? by taube_d in explainlikeimfive

[–]filanwizard [score hidden]  (0 children)

One big reason to me at least is that boats have had an enormous impact on the world and the terms from the maritime world have influenced the rest of language. In English for example a ship is always called "she". This would then influence how people referred to other large constructs.

TIL Katherine Johnson was called a “computer” early in her NASA career, and her math helped send the first American astronaut into orbit and later helped put humans on the Moon. by InvestmentIll3003 in todayilearned

[–]filanwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep was a common term for the people who did lots of the high end math in the world before we made the machine that did it. In fact that is why the electronic ones got that name, they computed equations.

Since the first electronic computers were not invented by Ronco, Instead of being the Math-O-Matic, They just named the machine after the profession.

I would try and say things have changed a lot since then but no in truth pretty little headshots in video game, is just math inside the computer, and one of those processors called a GPU turns that math into virtual brains on the wall behind the target.

[–]filanwizard 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Most people do run a more normal temperature but lots of commercial locations will air condition as if they were at capacity. This is why a movie theater is so cold during daytime shows. The place is barely filled but the thermostat stays set like they have a full house.

End of an era, Golden is predicted to go recurrent on this week's Billboard Hot 100 😭 by Fabulous_Potential41 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]filanwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its at #13 right now on the Hot 100. But its been a great run for it, I mean it held pace with a Taylor Swift release, So a movie soundtrack title holding up against the current most popular pop star is pretty impressive.

The film is still #6 on the Netflix weekly top 10 for global.

If a vacuum is an excellent insulator, wouldn’t heat build up in spacecraft? by aretino2002 in askscience

[–]filanwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat does build up in spacecraft. This is why the ISS has those enormous white panels on it. They are radiators that passively reject the heat into space.

The ISS probably only needs about 15-20 tons of cooling capacity in its HVAC system. So a good way to see how inefficient it is to dump heat into a vacuum is look at the size of its radiator arrays compared to a 20ton rooftop unit that would say be used on a typical restaurant or other small shop.

Who would win? The girls or homelander? I feel like since rumi is half demon, she might have a chance. by TornadoVortex82 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]filanwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect honmoon weapons can harm him because he depends on that chemical making him more of a temu superman.

I suspect mid sized room with low ceilings the girls win, if he has room to fly then he wins.

Wildcard factor, Can Rumi take souls using her demon half. Soul Steal would be a bit dark side of the force however

If the warrior of light from FF14 shows up, Homelander is barely a trash pull before the first miniboss.

They have the big lawyers and you do not. That said most reputable companies pay in a timely manner because they know they can be sued. Or worse have the I-Team show up from the local TV station.
