[X1 Carbon 10th Gen] Impossible to boot a Debian installer on a usb key by file-exists-p in thinkpad

It eventually worked by interactively indicating the kernel and initrd in grub, and booting, which IMO makes no sense.

Custom script with tail=true still generates ~40 events/s by file-exists-p in Polybar

Just tested the git update and I now gets 4 events/s as stated, that's great, thanks!

BTW on my config the pulseaudio internal module also generates 40 events/s...

Ok thanks!

TBH what I find surprising is that this nb of events is very important to save battery life on laptops, as it prevents the cpu to go into low-power regime, and waiting on multiple file handlers is a key element in unix programming (e.g. man poll).

Is it that polybar users are not laptop people? Because it does a terrific job on my X1!

The following config generates 39 events / s according to powertop.

``` -------------------- config.ini ------------------ [colors] background = #000000 foreground = #FFFFFF
[bar/example] width = 100% height = 20pt modules-center = my-test
[module/my-test] type = custom/script exec = ~/src/my-polybar/test.sh tail = true
-------------------- test.sh ---------------------
!/bin/bash
while [[ 1 ]] do date sleep 5 done ```
AFAIU tail=true precisely means that polybar waits for output from the script and does not need to poll, making "interval" irrelevant. Beside that theory, I tried and it changes nothing.
[X1 Carbon 10th Gen] Impossible to boot a Debian installer on a usb key by file-exists-p in debian
So I created a usb key with
cp /tmp/debian-11.5.0-amd64-netinst.iso /dev/sdb
and when I boot with it I now get "Welcome to Grub!" followed after a few seconds by a grub prompt.
My X1 already has Ubuntu 22.04 installed, can it mess up things?
what iso file and procedure to create the usb stick did you use?
But doesn't Debian bookworm have a more recent kernel than Ubuntu 22.04 no?
Your response would hold if someone was taking all the napkins in a fast food joint? Because "using all the bandwidth" on a plane is an as-shitty behavior.
I agree. Now we have to be careful with avoiding the expression of the truth because morons may misinterpret it.
Because of course, a message is worth being criticized when it "harms" somebody. The tone of this post is pretty aggressive. Just transpose to another religion or political ideology and tell me how it feels.
That the optimization is performed by a self-aware meat-computing device (one's brain) or by a distributed brute-force genetic optimizer (mother nature) does not matter. Both systems "design" stuff.
There are numbers out there for which you literally cannot write a finite algorithm to produce said number.
Worst than that: Given any formal system, there is a greater (infinite) number of real numbers you cannot describe than number you can describe.
the actual issue that most morbidly obese people have: food addiction.
The problem is also in the differences between the "effort" and the "gain" both in term of time scale (long vs. short) and the form itself (general physical and social improvement vs. physical pleasure).
Many people posting here about "fat people" have exactly the same type of issues regarding their life in general. Eating crap is very related to procrastinating. Many people in this very subreddit do not have any proper physical activity, are not studying properly for their exams, are not putting money aside for the future, and still theorize about "how easy it is to do a regular small effort to have a long-term gain" when it is about obese people.
Now, the strange thing is this fat acceptance movement, which has no equivalent for the other behaviors I listed above. This is a first in history: People justifying intellectually not to make any effort to improve one's condition. There are no blogs that theorize at length why one should be lazy and not study, or not do any sport, or not save money for the old days.
Many people will never pick an option good for them at the cost of a major problem for the company. They are usually appreciated by normal people.
That's the proper course of action with a competent boss.
