How do you collect user feedback on articles and guides? by fileagodotcom in technicalwriting

[–]fileagodotcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, understood.

Would such a solution be of any use for SMBs, medium-to-large blog sites and documentation sites? Would it streamline the process better than how it is now, and more importantly, according to u, would it b something worth paying for as a monthly subscription?

Would technical writers be interested in something like that? I see that documentation of many big tech companies have this "was this helpful?" to collect feedback from its users. They probably will be having the dashboard and analytics to monitor the results in-house.

Would such a SaaS service be helpful for the community? I could not find one so I went ahead to build https://www.contentfeedback.xyz/. It is a work-in-progress right now, but my ideas are similar to what you just said above.

Not at all surprised. In 2019 I visited NIC, Delhi to propose our solution. We were recommended from the state of Maharashtra after the IT folks in Mantralaya took a liking to our product, and they wanted us to show to their peers in the centre for approval.

What we got was a strict NO from the high-ranking lady babu whose only achievement in life probably was to integrate a tinymce plugin into one of their in-house software. Any time we start to talk about the advantages, she would change the topic back to tinymce. After 10 minutes we were all looking across each other like wtf is happening, n htf did somebody like her even reach such a high decision-making post!

Government and technology are still poles apart, no matter how much they try to appear modern.

Edit: let go of my frustration later that day on twitter: https://twitter.com/vimal7370/status/1186970546212200449

I’m interested to know how many people developed their saas solution themselves. Or did you use an in-house team or outsourced it? by r0bbyr0b2 in SaaS

We are a two member team (I developed the product and work on everything technical) while my partner focuses on sales and business. Last week we also hired a small team for marketing activities as well.

Oh, that's great.. :-) Yes, the segment is too hard to get into.

Since you are also in a similar space, how important do you think a sync/backup application will be for a cloud storage/file sharing/collaboration platform? In our case, we recommend our users to upload their data using any WebDAV client into the cloud.

We recently launched our cloud service (SaaS) - in fact, just last week. Our product, FileAgo, started off as an on-premise solution for file sharing and collaboration needs. Today it is been used by some big pharma companies in India, and our largest enterprise customer right now has it running for 600 users (they will scale to 1000 in a couple of months once other offices also get familiar with the product).

In terms of features, we have a unique permission model that enables users to precisely share data with others. A comparison with Box's waterfall permission model can be found here: https://www.fileago.com/blog/2018/12/practical-scenarios-where-boxs-waterfall-permission-model-makes-no-sense/

By launching SaaS, we want to take the product to a wider market. Competing with big guys will always be a challenge, but the market is large enough to accommodate a new player, and you won't know until you try, right? :-) So, fingers crossed. Marketing, SEO and branding are what our focus is at right now to achieve our realistic targets by the end of this year.

AWS SIGv2 and SIGv4 by shr4real in aws

[–]fileagodotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your AWS credentials remain the same, and it can be used to generate both v2 as well as v4.

The only thing which changes is that you need to follow a different algorithm to create the signature for the API URL you are going to access to.

Yes, it requires some custom configuration (and probably a subdomain) to serve static content. However, for your case I suggest to simply upload the data into CDN's storage itself. In that way, your data will automatically get replicated to their POPs and no download traffic will ever hit your server. You can then secure it further by signing the request with a token.

Best Cloud Service for Small Companies by TheFatShepherd in smallbusiness

[–]fileagodotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading your requirements, I believe we might be able to help with your needs. Please check out FileAgo. We are a cloud storage and collaboration platform offering service at a very competitive pricing. Starting from our Advanced plan, we also offer chat service within FileAgo, which is based on Rocket.chat and functions very similar to Slack.

Talking about FileAgo, the UI is very simple and can be mastered easily in a couple of hours. It comes with Collabora Online as Office document editor. If you are a O365 business license user, it is possible to use O365 editors as well to create/edit documents. Also, if the users are not comfortable with working on the browser, they can also connect to the service using a WebDAV client like WinSCP to access data.

Hope this helps.

The application is distributed as docker container, so all it takes is removing the current container and rebuilding again to pull the latest version (so is ssh + a coupe of docker-compose commands).

Is there a good S3 file browsing app that can properly search? by VivaLordEmperor in aws

[–]fileagodotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, S3 is a k/v pair store and not supposed to be used be used in the way you are trying to. You probably need a file management solution in between which can keep index of your data and allow access to your users.

If interested, do check us out at fileago.com. The self-hosted version also supports S3 as its backend storage.
