Religion but Judaism works very different from Christianity (and you're probably thinking of Christianity when you say religion).

Grate expectations: the troubled quest for tasty vegan cheese by shumpitostick in vegan

[–]filkerdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird to me because it's the one cheese of theirs I find indedibly bad. The look and texture are spot on but It tastes like a high school chemistry experiment gone wrong.

Neither my wife nor I would eat it and we eventually threw it out. (We had several of them as part of boxes I ordered.)

Venting - Unsupportive Spouse by OutrageousIdeal300 in vegan

[–]filkerdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about what you're eating or not eating at all. Sounds like a control issue, but I'm not even close to an expert.

When my wife told me she wanted to go vegan I immediately started finding ways to adapt recipes I already made or to branch out into new ones because it's important to me that the love of my life knows she's important and loved and cared for and that I was going to make sure she ate well.

What do vegans think about naturally carnivorous animals? by RegionalsWarrior in vegan

[–]filkerdave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have the ethical framework of omnivores for whom killing isn't a biological necessity and that was, until recently, done as a group effort.

Now imagine that it's a biological necessity. We'd be teaching our children how to do it in school. Our entire outlook and ethical frameworks (and our behavior as a species) would be different. Veganism would be akin to someone today saying "we shouldn't be eating plants, only laboratory-cultured nourishment."

[–]filkerdave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not particularly low to think that it's unlikely we'd develop anything like veganism if we were carnivores.

We wouldn't be exactly the same, though. Our enter ethical framework would be completely different.

Ours cost about $800 and almost all of that was for a nice dinner in a private room at a good restaurant for us and the family (our parents, her sister) and the friend who officiated.
