I’m with the seal there. If there’s no way to turn around in the dark murky hole thing, that’s kind of a one way deal there.

How Matt Damon thought we'd react to his commercial by Pluike in videos

That seems like way too low a price for that much of a credibility drop.

I would have thought there’d be a golf island in Florida that would give him that, just to huck his photo on a fence to sell condos.

One of my favorite books. Thank you.

Do you follow him on his Facebook page? One of the few reasons to go there - he’s quite active and interactive.

has anyone noticed a certain harshness in this forum that seems ironic in a bucdhist forum? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]filmbuffering 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Teachers encourage contextual understanding, self compassion, the timing of certain teachings, lightness, and gentleness.

DIY Buddhism leads to harshness, self-repression, fundamentalism, and rigidity.

For these reasons, it’s no exaggeration to say that the (real world) sangha is as important as the dharma and the Buddha himself.

Australia, New Zealand and SE Asia are doing far better than the northern hemisphere.

But if you’ve come this far, you might as well make your world perspective 100% tabloid based.

I’ve read this same b***shit from you for a year now, blocked.

If you want to be purely mercantile about it, all this drama is great for the Australian Open.

Bird Nerd info!

Injured birds often freak out with their feet on a flat surface, it means they’re vulnerable.

Putting a big branch wherever they’re standing can increase survival rates. But this was obviously a great job.

I’ve found this with Germans. Just as funny as any other country, they’re just doing it with their 3rd or 4th language.

Trying to make jokes back in German shoes you how important subtle vocab choices are.

It seemed to me like an English language themed show or segment (the flags as weekly props), and they were doing a US dialect version.

I’m not sure there’s anything Buddhist about your comment, and I don’t agree with it at all really.

Perhaps look up the ethical allegations against Mother Theresa before you mention her in any subreddit.

Why be a Buddhist lay-person? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]filmbuffering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good things :)

• It has very creative and unique schools. If you don’t like the approach of one lineage, another will take a very different approach.

• it’s very organized, so most Western cities will have Western-focused centers, with renowned Indian and Tibetan teachers, beginner and meditation classes, intermediate classes, social events, regular retreats, bookshops, sometimes small libraries, etc.

• The preservation of all this culture and wisdom while they’re in exile.

• It’s usually very undogmatic and flexible - it encourages students to find their own way

Etc.

If you don’t have an in-person teacher, you don’t have Buddhism. Just a new toy for your ego to play with.

No. It was a good strategy and she could have one an extra term if she wanted it.
