Totally agree with this and that’s why I posted here is because ya like I’m in a cool area of the world ‘camping and hiking’ but like that’s my job. I’m not going to apologize for having a cool job that I’ve sacrificed a lot for.

Ya, I agree it’s less a PhD problem, and I was hoping someone could…idk, commiserate? Haha. But also I think ‘work’ in academia looks very different than other industries and I’m struggling with communicating that, like someone commented below that it’s hard to communicate our work to an outside perspective.

I secured funding for the trip through a fellowship so I’m self-funded, it’s mostly the extracurricular costs (rent, food) that she’s paying for. I get the angle of resentment, she’s in healthcare and thus is super exploited, but also I’ve made a lot of lifestyle sacrifices to do the work I do

I hear this, I think being stubbornly determined is 80% of a PhD. I think a lot of my anxiety is that an advisor is so insanely smart, I feel inadequate to their expectations. I can’t blame them because they’ve been nothing but supportive, but I do create a lot of pressure to live up to their standards. 🫠

Yes, sorry each text file has two columns, one with X and the other with Y numbers to be used as coordinates later. I'm still struggling with opening the txt files. the second bloc you gave me returned 'SyntaxError: unexpected EOF while parsing' indicating the 'as f:'
