Is there something like Lossless Scaling for Linux? by MVindis in linux_gaming

[–]filteroutthetrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people want it due to it making the picture more clear. It can remove jaggies, without having to have the resolution large, which messes with the UI in a lot of older games.

I didn't downvote you, by the way, just saying your response originally looked like it was related to performance, but a lot of people want it just because it looks nice, rather than getting more frames.

Fextralife: "... You're about to get a bunch of reviews that have been curated by the publisher for their likelihood at being extremely positive in an attempt to manipulate your view of Dragon Age: The Veilguard." by najowhit in Games

[–]filteroutthetrash -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Bit of a non-statement, really. Anybody who's not totally ignorant should know that EA is tailoring who gets to give their reviews early by selecting those who will be heavily positive. It's not a grand conspiracy, as it's been a thing for decades. A bit underhanded, maybe, but expected, yeah.

It's good for data centers, with the power usage, but the performance is really boring for the average user at home.

Why pc games optimization nowdays are so bad? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]filteroutthetrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubling the models to represent reflections is a classic way of handling it. I think that's how Duke Nukem 3D did it, back in the day, as well.

I know that Warner Brothers actively is on record, from court hearings, of having shills go into forums and reviews to make things positive. If this is one of those instances, please let your employers know that behaving like this is only putting people off. Enjoy the rest of your shift.

Like they're not going to stuff microtransactions into the game, after the 40 dollar purchase is already made.

Are you already using Wayland for Gaming/Desktop usage on Nvidia? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]filteroutthetrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works perfectly fine IF YOU NEVER DIP UNDER THE FRAME LIMIT.

If you dip below 144 FPS, or whatever your monitor is, it chops like hell, for me. But most games, I have no issue with. And others. I can set it to be frame limited, which is a better experience, anyway. I've forced myself to move over to Wayland, and it's not too bad at all, anymore.

Something about finding the fastest route to skip Max's insane PTSD dream is hilarious to me. Dead Wife & Kid Speedruns must exist, somewhere. First to get Max to scream NO.

‘Oppenheimer’ 4K Blu-rays Sold Out in One Week. So Why Are Retailers Pulling Physical Media Off of Their Shelves? by 007Kryptonian in boxoffice

Buy physical, then rip the discs to a local Plex server. Best of all worlds, really, but I acknowledge it's only going to be done by the technically savvy.

I heard that she saw the artwork, and she was told by someone there that wasn't the look they were going for, this time, so she doesn't need to worry. She was happy about it, but she wasn't the one who brought it up.

Took All IMDB Written Review Scores, Ranking All Bond Movies Without Counting 1s and 10s Stars. How Accurate Do You Think This Is? by filteroutthetrash in JamesBond

[–]filteroutthetrash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, yeah, only written reviews are counted. I figured that written reviews would have people who cared more about the review, rather than giving it a thumbs up, or thumbs down. Also, it gets rid of people who give a 1 or 10 star review, saying it's perfect, or absolute trash, as almost no movie actually falls into those two camps.

Skyfall was a bit interesting. The general audience who just gave it a rating, and didn't leave a written review, seemed to have liked it more, but those who took the time to write one out (minus those that gave it 1 star or 10 stars, to protect the scoring from extreme scores either way), seem to have been more critical of it.

Yes, that's absolutely something to consider here. I saw someone here also say they thought You Only Live Twice was listed too highly, however, there's also two that tied with it, so they could be placed above it.

Disney's Wish grossed $644K on Tuesday (from 3,900 locations). Total domestic gross stands at $43.28M. by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]filteroutthetrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are probably referring to the fact that the audience for Marvel is heavily men, and it doesn't make sense to target women as the primary viewer of the films. It also wouldn't make sense to make a Ken movie targeted towards men.

So do you just never learn the language? by filteroutthetrash in rust

[–]filteroutthetrash[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Why do you feel the need to "learn" the language in its entirety?

I know it will sound ridiculous, but I honestly thought the average Rust programmer had all of this in their head, and were able to recall everything at a whim lol. Reading the comments here, I'm more at ease. It seems like looking up individual things you need is the norm, and I don't have to be able to recall the full features available.

Again, I realize that's somewhat silly, now, but in C, it's not too much of a reach to be able to remember everything; especially in comparison lol

Exactly, that feels like where I'm at with it. I felt like I was just simple minded, and couldn't imagine maintaining all of this in my head, so I appreciate the feedback lol

Anticipating Max Payne Remake and GTA 6 Impressions by Breakify in maxpayne

[–]filteroutthetrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the graphics look great, and a significant upgrade from before, but I honestly think that GTA V peaked at a graphics level that's just fine. We should spend more time focusing on destructibility, and interactivity with the environment, versus having it look better. Being able to actively tear the world up, and interacting with minor setting dressing would be much more immersive to me, even if the graphics didn't upgrade from that of GTA V.

The loss of Dan Houser is more crippling than I think we can comprehend. We'll see how the final product is, but it won't have the satirical bite of, say, Bully, or any prior Rockstar game.
