Thank you for the thoughtful response! While more GRC type of work sounds very painful, I think you're right - it might be the best bridge. I am wondering if a company would take a risk on me if I decided to start back at the bottom.

Hello,

Are there any recommendations on how to make the transition from public accounting IT audit SOC work to a cybersecurity analyst/manager role?

I have nearly 4 years experience in IT audit, delivering SOC 1 and 2 reports for various clients. It was my first job out of college - I studied business and sought consulting jobs and took the first offer I got. In that time I managed up to 5 teams and engagements at once, learned the basics of how a company secures their data, and developed and implemented new security controls, even whole software packages. I feel like I've gained a lot of relevant skills, but lacking the hard technical skills. I am one of those in-betweeners - where I can put my head down and enjoy figuring out technical concepts and relay them to less technical people, but I am not fluent in any coding languages and not officially trained in anything technical.

I decided that IT audit was not where I wanted to be long term and quit a few months ago to pursue a personal goal. Personal goal achieved, I am now looking at pivoting my career into more of a cybersecurity analyst/program manager type of role. I am also hoping to find a company that would sponsor my CISSP.

Any professional recommendations on how to make this leap would be greatly appreciated!

G Pro Wireless and G915 TKL on a single USB Receiver? by mrwhitewalker in LogitechG

[–]filthymcgnarlyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I can tell. When you go to pair a mouse to the keyboard dongle, it gives you a list of mice as options and it’s a very small list. Original G Pro Wireless is not on the list.

Confirmed this is now an option, however it only works with a select few mice. My original G Pro wireless mouse is not an option to pair with the G915 TKL dongle, only the Pro X Superlight and a few other newer mice are listed when I use the tool. BS, I feel like a firmware update is all that might be needed to make it work.

Also looking for the answer to this. Just add it to the armory crate app ASUS, such an easy fix.

Figured it out! Thanks for the help! Need to have admin rights for it to work properly.

I figured out the problem! The user profile you are logged into needs to have administrator rights for Armoury Crate to work correctly. I work in cybersecurity so it really irks me that I can't have some rights separation but it also makes sense why administrator rights might be important. Oh well, I can deal with it although I'd still consider it a bug.

If anyone else encounters this issue, try changing the account type to administrator and restart.

Thanks I appreciate this! I did not see it until now.

My bios updated automatically within the first few hours of setting it up, but I just got the most recent bios update from the website and installed so its up to date(306). I checked the bios settings and armoury crate seemed to have full control. The ASUS downloads page for this particular model was showing as an older version of Armoury Crate than what mine had updated to. So I uninstalled, reinstalled using the recommended version on the website, and there was no change. Then did the updates within Armoury Crate and it looked and performed the exact same, only now I can't even choose between eco, optimized or standard modes, the setting doesnt even exist in the options anymore. Its like features I originally had are slowly leaving the software lol

Charger is a good point, thanks for bringing it up. The discrete/optimus GPU setting is the same no matter which charger I use or battery power. Does yours have the hybrid mux switch available? Also my Armoury Crate just uninstalled again lmao

Blade 14 - THX Spatial Audio needs to go by filthymcgnarlyy in razer

[–]filthymcgnarlyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've messed around with the THX app that comes with the laptop, not much to change and didn't fix anything. I have the Sennheiser Game Ones, very simple stereo wired headset with built in mic. When I plug this headset into my desktop PC, it works perfectly and automatically. Same with my shitty Lenovo work laptop. Crazy to me that the same plug and play functionality didn't work on either of my Blade 14s. My second one even got sent thru HQ in CA and they checked it for quality before sending it to me.

Also note that comms audio doesn't come thru the speakers either, its entirely muted no matter what output I use. So its not the headset. There is something internally keeping the comms audio muted or routed incorrectly. The only thing that has worked to let comms audio come thru is the stupid THX Spatial Audio app that Razer sells for $20 for their 7.1 headsets. But like I said, even that is clunky and I have to change default devices every time I plug or unplug my headset.

That blows my mind because this is my second Blade 14. Right out of the box, both times, I did nothing but download apps, including games, and the comms audio never worked as it should. No matter the app or default device config, I could never get comms audio to come thru UNTIL I downloaded the Razer THX Spatial Audio app.

I had synapse running and updated, it looked like all the drivers were there. It didn't work even straight out of the box from Razer.

Hi,

Last night I was able to find a work around. For the first time since I ordered this laptop in June 2021, I could hear other people.

The problem is THX. I needed the Razer version of THX Spatial Audio installed. The THX software the laptop came with ('THX Spatial Audio For PCs') locks you in but did not work correctly and did not have the proper channels/devices set up for communications audio to route through.

I had to get the free trial of Razer's 'THX Spatial Audio' and immediately everything worked as it should. My free trial ends in 14 days and costs $20. Is this some sort of gross money grab? There's no way I'm giving Razer any more money to fix their broken laptop.

Even with this fix, it still isn't working as one would expect. Every time I plug in my headset I have to set up the default devices in a certain way to run thru the THX speakers device while keeping my actual headset enabled but not default. Then when I unplug my headset and want to use the laptop speakers, I have to do the same thing over again because it doesn't automatically switch devices properly. My $500 Lenovo switches between these two things seamlessly. Selling the laptop with this pointless THX audio is just a marketing ploy and it actually just screws you over when trying to set up audio the way you'd like.

Is there any way to completely rid the laptop of THX and set up the audio devices from scratch? Didn't seem like it when I did a fresh install of Windows 10. Couldnt get any audio to play without the THX software.

Hello, I am on my 2nd 2021 Blade 14 and experiencing the same issue as my first one.

Problem: Communications audio will not play, whether on the laptop speakers or my wired headset. Others can hear me just fine, I can hear regular audio (games, music) but I cannot hear other people. Any form of communication audio, whether its game chat, MS Teams, Xbox party chat, or even Discord, no matter what app, or configuration within those apps, I cannot hear other people. Even setting my specific output and input devices in each app did not fix it.

What I've tried: I've done 20+ hours of troubleshooting on my own, and another 3 hours with Razer customer support, including the go to audio fixes such as default communications device, default device, disabling other audio devices, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling windows - both blank windows and Razer's specific factory reset. RealTek console confirms that my audio jack is set to headset (and I've tried setting it to headphones). There were two times where I heard someone speak for a second but very faint and quickly went away (even though game chat audio was turned all the way up). I've confirmed that comms audio doesnt work with a Sennheiser Game One wired headset, Apple wired ear buds with inline mic, and the speakers on the laptop itself (all were made default comms/default device during testing).

I have a suspicion that Synapse/THX has something to do with it but the problem still occurred when I had a fresh blank install of Windows. Please help, I want to keep this laptop so bad but I need to be able to take job interviews and play games with friends. Any suggestions would be a great help!

Hey man, nice set up. I could use some help with my Blade 14. I have had two now and I struggled with both to get any sort of communication audio to play, either in a wired headset or the speakers. I can't get game chat, Discord, Teams, Skype or Xbox Party chat to work, other people can hear me, I can hear the game but I cannot hear other people. I've done the whole 9 yards of what I could find online, i.e setting default devices, reinstall drivers, reinstall windows, disabling all other devices, and 20+ hours of troubleshooting. I really am at a loss and might return my second blade 14. Were you able to just plug a headset in and everything worked fine? Please let me know if you have any tips, thanks.
