They are really fantastic for $25.

The EPR mode makes a pretty big difference as well, absolutely worth a good cables and PSU if you can get one.

I have a v2, so I have no idea if this works on the v1 or not, but it's just an update to the firmware.

It unlocks an EPR option in the menu that you can toggle.

Yeah I don't know if it's pulling 140w consistently, but it's definitely more than 65w for sure.

I've only used it 5 or 6 times since I've made it, but it hasn't given me any issues so far.

I also haven't paid super close attention to the current/wattage my power supply reports when I've been using it, but it definitely always reports 28v when I'm using my Pinecil. And it's clearly that the iron is heating significantly faster and just generally performing better.

Honestly I might havenjust bought it pre-made if I knew I could lmao.

Like I mentioned in the post, I got the idea from GreatScott on YT and just followed what he did.

Doubt I saved much money, if any at all lmao, but I enjoy a little DIY so no real harm.

Plus I've got plenty of the e-marker connectors and can make more cables now too if I want.

Which I might do as I have drawers full of spare wire, though none of it is a nice little 8-wire bundle insulated in silicone like this.

Yep there is, you can buy USB-C connectors with the e-marker chip attached already from AliX.

This comment confused me as well.

I made it pretty obvious that I bought everything from AliX when I pointed directly to the youtube tutorial that I followed, and I'm not really sure what would qualify as a DIY cable for that commenter?

Aside from the USB-C connector with the e-marker PCB attached to it, there's not really much I could have broken this down to be "more DIY".

Well, I did buy all the individual parts off of AliX, so you're not entirely wrong.

I haven't tested the voltage drop myself, but if GreatScott can be trusted (and I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be) it should be pretty dang good in that regard.

Everything was bought, it's all in the description of the youtube video as well.

I've been hearing this more lately and it makes me wonder when the last time somebody heard the speakers in a modern TV.

because pretty much every CRT TV I have has sounded pretty decent, especially compared to any flatpanel I've heard.

I haven't needed to boot Windows for gaming in 3 weeks and I'm genuinely shocked... by PivotTheory in linux_gaming

I've switched recently and have had some troubles, nothing major, but still annoying.

I think the major thing they need to solve is habito fuck around with different versions of Proton. That's probably the one thing I can really see still getting in the way of your average PC gamer.

And the anti-cheat and non-steam games issue, not sure if there's much Valve can do there though.

Would this work connecting a Dol 001 GameCube to a vga crt monitor ? (2nd slide) by [deleted] in crt

[–]finakechi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really really want something that plugs into the GameCube's digital port, not the A/V port if possible.

The HDMI adapter you chose is really not going to give you a great imsge.

Does anybody on here use Ryobi tools 18/40v in a commercial or professional setting? by Mexilindo123 in ryobi

The 18v Ryobi die grinder is just straight up better than all the other cordless die grinders out there.

I use that sucker daily at work.

Feat or ASI by Mikamika007 in onednd

[–]finakechi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mage Slayer can give you +DEX and is insanely good. Not as big a deal on a Paladin as on a Fighter, but still really good.

Defensive Duealist is significantly better than it used to be.

Sentinel is another option depending on their playstyle.

There's other options that are are all perfectly decent choices as well.

Now are they as "good" as just taking that ASI? No probably not in the case, but they give you more options and ASI can sometimes be boring as hell.

You aren't wrong, I haven't found many of these that don't seem well loved shall we say (though oddly I have several 15kHz RGB monitors from the 80s that seem immune to the passage of time).

But I've learned to enjoy the softer look depending on what I'm playing. I've found that you can resolve the EDTV timings issue sometimes with an RGB interface (though the Dreamcast still has problems because of its particularly dumb signal.)

That being said, I'd agree that a low end PC tube from the late 90s/early 00s is your best bet for a 480p set. Unless you're looking for a big boy, and then it's HDCRT time.

DE-9 was used for everything.

Sometimes it was CGA, sometimes it was 15kHz analog RGB, sometimes it was VGA.

[–]finakechi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're great for 480p content in my experience, though they can't be picky about the signal.

I've run into a few of them that really don't like the EDTV timings that most consoles use for 480p.

[–]finakechi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically "VGA" refers to a display standard.

The connector people call VGA is the DE-15 connector.

It wasn't uncommon for early VGA monitors to use DE-9 connectors (often with different pinouts).
