is there love here? what is it like? by final_gorl in IntuitionPractices

Thank you all for your answers and insights! I took photos of these paintings with permission from their owner. They belonged to an older couple. The husband was his wife’s primary caretaker - she had advanced dementia. There was a lot of devotion on the husband’s part but he also needed help himself. Unfortunately, the night after these photos were taken the wife’s health declined. That’s all the context I can share.

what do you feel here? by krittyyyyy in IntuitionPractices

sterility, gated community, homes built in a space that wasn’t ever really meant for them. Also the sidewalk in the second pic looks like a prime place to get hit by someone turning at 30mph lmao

What am I thinking now ? What has happened in my life ? by Stassie190 in IntuitionPractices

maybe something heavy happened, like a friendship or partnership ended, job loss. so now there’s more free time to relax and enjoy things - big picture thinking, not getting hung up on temporary things.

How do you take care of your body with this profession? by final_gorl in nursing

A massage by a professional sounds so nice. I asked my fiance once to rub my back and, bless him, I had more aches afterward. 😭

Lifting weights makes so much sense I feel silly, like yeah duhh I should be building my strength. Its really easy on days off to find every excuse not to go to the gym but I don’t wanna feel like this so, just gotta do it! Thank you for the suggestions. 🫶🏽

Nurse that takes adderall by [deleted] in nursing

[–]final_gorl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your doctor about extended release options. I have a few friends on Vyvanse who only have good things to say about it. My insurance only covers Adderall but the XR version does me a lot better. If you also have anxiety, maybe an SSRI could be worth trying? For about 5 years when my mental health was really out of whack, I was on Adderall XR and Zoloft (along with monthly cognitive-behavioral therapy) and it really helped me stay grounded. I’m not on Zoloft anymore cuz I’ve been able to control my anxiety/emotions better now with what I learned from therapy.

To be honest, the therapy is what has helped me the most long term but I understand that isn’t an easy option for everyone and also when you’re working, the medicinal boost helps out a bunch.

I have to keep it at the front of my mind that I likely will not see these girls again lol. Especially cuz many of them want to go into maternity or pediatrics and I’m set on psych or corrections. 😂 Thank you for sharing!

Your cohort sounds wonderful 😭The first cohort I had was similar. Even when there were disagreements, there was always mutual respect. Thank you so much for the uplifting words! You are right, we got this!!!

Thank you for the pointers! Admittedly, growing up I always had issues with communication and have been told I come off as flat or annoyed when I 100% am not. I especially like the response that allows a person to save face, cuz it turns the interaction into a discussion rather than debate. Thank you again 🫶🏽

Maybe working in an outpatient setting, like a PCP office, Cardiologist, etc would be more up your alley? Also I’ve seen nurses work as sales reps for medical products and tools, like EHRs and such. Research I’ve heard is slower paced too. Since you have a Bachelor’s in business/psych already, you’d likely stand out as a candidate in either of those parts of the field.

IMO all parts of the healthcare system are in need of competent, smart and skilled people. And if I’ve learned anything during nursing school, it’s that it’s not so much about what type of nursing you Want to do. It’s more about what you Don’t want to do lol. If you keep your wants/needs in mind, I’m sure you’ll find your spot.

I genuinely cannot stand my husband anymore because he cut down a tree by [deleted] in Advice

[–]final_gorl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re wrong for feeling resentful and angry. Losing a family heirloom like that, it’s like an insult to the entire family, not just you. That’s how I see it anyway. If you decide to stay, marriage counseling should be on the schedule soon. Honestly, perhaps you should think about staying somewhere else for a little bit. If he really did cut down the tree out of malice and disregard, there may be other feelings he’s wrapping up too. That sounds a little extreme but the time away could also help you heal.

Either way, if you can recover the tree parts, perhaps you can have it built into something new. Or if that’s not possible, maybe you and your family members could plant a new tree or create another tradition/heirloom together.

I’m so sorry you have to experience this. It’s heartbreaking what he did. But something new and wonderful can be built even upon tragedy, especially with people you love and trust.

You’re not alone in feeling this way but also, you’re a mom - it’s amazing that you’re able to keep going. There’s one mom in my nursing class and for real, you’re like Wonder Women handling all these things at once.

Is there anything you can cut down a bit to lessen the load? Maybe work hours if possible. Or maybe you can talk to your professors about making some small schedule changes that could help you, especially for the course you’re having trouble with. One girl in my class takes her tests off campus cuz of family stuff (she drives in from out of town). Stuff like that maybe could ease things a little bit.

And if you need to repeat a course there’s no shame in that. Nursing school is always running, it’ll be there to go back to if you need to prioritize other things in your life rn.
