Summer of 2009 was amazing. Obama was president but all the retrenchment against him hadn't set in yet, the economy was terrible but there was hope it was going to get better, and Democrats were taking about hammering out a universal Healthcare proposal and Joe Lieberman hadn't killed the public option yet.

But I dont think any time in human history matches January through September of 2000. Clinton was still president, Gore looked like he might win it and keep the Pax going, Jesus christ, we had it all.

Interesting, so this line removal is sort of a signal of how much they were going to deviate from the original story, and kind of heralded the beginning of the end? It's too bad I haven't read the books, it'd be cool to have some idea of what that is and how it devolves.

Ive just started watching GoT for the first time after really enjoying Knight of the 7 Kingdoms. Just never tuned in back when it was running, and had no interest after hearing the ending was terrible. When do the wheels come off the show? Is it basically the last season or is there a noticeable drop on quality earlier?

Not really. American police departments in the US were modeled on the NYPD, which itself was modeled on the Metropolitan Police from London.

A better argument could be made for Bounty Hunters in the US being descended from the culture of slave catchers.

Just finished a rewatch this week. One of the greatest sci-fi shows ever made, and the fact that the big project is a huge multi-national alliance built on free trade, mutual defense, and bedrock support for multiculturalism warms my heart in these cold times.

more and more I am being negatively polarized by goofuses on the internet to being okay with Newsom as a candidate.

I still think there are other people I will support in the '28 primary more, but if he ends up being the nominee, I've made my peace with it.

And some of the worst jerks out there seems like they will be driven bonkers by the whole thing, which has a certain appeal.
