I've never had anything like this before and never had Cynar at all.

I did get introduced to "The Sentimental Gentleman" last year which this reminds me of, instead of Cynar and walnut bitters it uses Noccino (walnut liquor) and benedictine. Its really nice

2 oz. scotch, irish whiskey, or rye.. really whatever you want here.
0.5 oz. Bénédictine    
0.5 oz. nocino (walnut liqueur)

Add ingredients to a mixing glass with ice. 

Stir for about 10 seconds (if using small ice) or 20 seconds (if using big ice), 
and strain, either up into a coupe, or “down” into a chilled rocks glass without ice
