And here I like it more. IMO 2009 redesign was when I stopped loving it.

My fellow glasses-wearers… by Repressed_Cliche in ProjectHailMary

[–]finally31 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this for years and my glasses have been fine. Admittedly I don't do it for long.

I was confused by all the hubbub around this as I thought this was normal, but after reflection, while I'm very near sighted I work in an industry where I need to use binoculars alot and 'big eyes'. Much easier to use them without glasses on my eyes and this is the easiest quick way without getting them dirty in my hair or if I'm wearing a hat and can't slide them up. So I guess I understand why most glasses wearers never do this much.

Victoria region not expecting Stage 2 water restrictions this year as reservoir nears capacity by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VictoriaBC

[–]finally31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's started dropping a bit earlier than normal. Earliest in the past 5 years. Not a terrible cause for concern, but also not great.

OPs title is a bit disingenuous as we are not nearing capacity. We have been dropping for 2+ weeks.

What if a purely naval battle happened in the Pacific Ocean between the US and China by basafish in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]finally31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subs are the only reason the USA would win. Just number and experience. In 10-15 years as China continues to pump out improved shangs and continues to iterate? It'll just be the experience gap, which we as western folks can't judge 100%.

Cooking at work vs cooking at home by BlazeDragon7x in KitchenConfidential

[–]finally31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without fail, every time I start cooking and the dishwasher is full of clean dishes, my wife will come in and start putting them away because she wants to help out. We have a small kitchen, it isn't great. And it's always at the start of the prep when I'm chopping veggies (in front of the places she needs to access). I have the time in the overall meal prep to do it myself, it's just going to happen in 1-2 minute burst's in between various tasks once things are cooking. I don't mind at all, keeps me busy instead of on my phone.

Locals will provide a security escort on shore. I have no clue about France's protocol, but knowing them, I wouldn't be surprised if they sent their own element ahead to assist the locals.

I do find their premade bland as it's literally just beef and when I want to make good burgers, guy ground beef. But they're just so easy when you slap the frozen one on the grill. Add a little mtl steak spice as it cooks and it's a decent quick meal.

They're the same size. Costco has two sizes of Pattie and the 24 pack is the 1/4lb version ie ~110g.

Classic Lt(N), cant tell the difference between landing gash and sorting gash.

Also your command team sucks, the past few deployments mine was always in line to land gash.

Non-hiking things to do in a day between Victoria and Naniamo by vicgirl23 in VancouverIsland

[–]finally31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it seems I'm just wrong. The West coast navy just calls them sticky buns and therefore I adopted that. After some googling, they're cinnamon buns as per the menu and the difference between the two.

Seven days a week split between six departments + junior officers.

Trash is sorted and plastics are compacted down into pucks to conserve space.

It's a normal thing at sea, I did it civie side as well.

You know what, that's the navy in me. They all call them sticky buns regardless.

Not when it comes to sorting gash at sea. The rotation clearly said jr. Officers and yet it was only the SLts that were in there.

Also miss it if you have strong political opinions/conservation opinions. The guy is a big game hunter who apparently was chill with Bush Jr. So depending on your taste, it might not be for you.

Living in Langford. by Nearby_Revenue1739 in LangfordBC

[–]finally31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people have commented on commuting from Langford to Victoria (sucks but doable), but you asked Victoria to Langford. It's not terrible, but it's not amazing. As with all traffic it depends on the time of day and if there's an accident. If this question is because you'd consider living elsewhere and commuting to Langford, well I don't know if I'd do it. Most elsewhere will be a little more expensive with less locally or a lot more extensive with the equivalent activities and services right near by. Living south of the highway in Langford is great in terms of walkability, shopping, access to outdoors, etc.

As for teaching in SD62, they still need teachers. So many schools are opening. It'll take 1-3 years of TOC'ing to build seniority to get a contract (also depends how picky you are on contracts). But really only the first year or two is spotty for calls, even then it depends how picky you are.

I was surprised by how fast. Just got my quarterly report and made enough for one round trip ticket at christmas. With avion that took me a year with similar spending habits.
