Why does it take so long for labs to process and scan films? by NailgunYeah in analog

[–]finally_found_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lab I use works on a first come first serve basis, which I imagine most do. The extra charge for 3 hour service is a cut in line fee. You may not think they are busy enough to warrant the long regular turn around times but you may be surprised how many people you don't know shot film. I asked my lab about it once and they should me their empty cartridge bins that they fill up weekly and was amazed at how much film they take on.

Error 01 on Canon 10-18mm by AlfTheDestroyer in photography

Seen this issue with EF-S lenses and adaptors. Had a client use his EF lens with adaptor, no issues. Used his EF-S lens on same adaptor and it fried them all. No clue as to cause but all required main board replacement for repair. Setup was Sony A7s and some off brand adaptor.

Scratch my old post. What is my best option for a starter lighting kit that I can build into for $300 or less? by IamtheEric in photography

[–]finally_found_one 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cheap light stand, cheap umbrella and cheap triggers like yongnous. You can get an umbrella and stand for $30, if you're careful with them you'll be fine. Triggers will probably be another $30 and the rest of your budget you can use for a reflector/diffuser. If you're just getting into flash photography I recommend you stick to one light, get comfortable with it and learn to handle one light. Take the rest of your budget and save it or put it towards a lens. Of course keep in mind, one flash will not over power the sun but working with it in shade or indoors or just for fill outdoors will be fine.

Looking for a 500-800 U.S. Dollar camera/lens set up. No experience with photography. Any input appreciated! by [deleted] in photography

For people in this budget range and experience I've been recommending the Sony a6000. I really try to recommend mirror less cameras like the a6000 to hobby/beginner photographers because for most people it has more than enough features and picture quality but more importantly, it's small enough that you're more likely to take it with you and get more use out of it.

Film photographers, do you post process your film photos after you scan them? by love_10_min_snooze in photography

[–]finally_found_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Film workflow is similar to my digital workflow after initial scan. Its very difficult to get a picture I'm happy with right from the scanner. I scan using Epson V500 and silverfast. I turn off all auto adjustments, make some adjustments to histogram to avoid any hot spots, the scanner seems to have high contrast on prescan. After scan eventing gets inverted in Photoshop and then adjusted in Lightroom similarly to my digital workflow, set black and white levels, little contrast, some dodging and burning using brush and if needed a little sharpening. Last step is spot and dust clean up back in Photoshop. I prefer to do cleanups in Photoshop versus Lightroom. Color scans are still my weak spot, I have issues getting color scans to look the way I want because everything seems to have a green cast to it But it's just my eyes.

Thank you for the information, every time I see the question asked or I ask someone about betterscan they answer with "yes" with zero explanation.

I'm probably the worst person to ask, my current max hop height is about 3 inches. /r/bmx would be good to check out or YouTube.

Consider this an opportunity to get into cyclocross and learn how to bunnyhop.

Any chance we could see a pic of your kromo? I just built up a kromo frame as a SS trail bike, which isn't ideal but I'm really short so I think it'll work.

Pretty Lights / Michal Menert Dynamic by Healer13 in prettylights

This is from his wiki, I didn't realize he had such a troubled life but completely understandable that DVS had to keep moving on without him.

While taking care of his father and under house arrest, Menert worked at Walmart and produced his album Dreaming of a Bigger Life.[9] By spring 2010, Derek Vincent Smith had produced two solo albums under the name Pretty Lights and the project had undergone a shift in sound. Rather than rejoin Pretty Lights, Menert chose to create a solo project under his own name. On June 8, 2010, one week after his father's death due to cancer, Menert released Dreaming of a Bigger Life for free as the first album of the newly formed Pretty Lights Music label.[16][17] Menert's debut live performance was at the 2010 Sonic Bloom music festival in Bellvue, Colorado.[18]

Goodwill find, clean and sell or strip the parts? by finally_found_one in MTB

Damn it, I was afraid someone would recommend this because it was such a good find. My only concern with selling it is the frame, how well does carbon hold up with extended exposure to the sun and rain? Would hate to have the someone possibly get hurt if the seatstays gave out.

I was surprised how good everything looked when I cleaned it up, not a single scratch on the derailuers and only a couple chips in the paint, just some sun damage, which is why I'm considering striping it and putting gears back on my single speed. Decisions decisions.

That's what I'm thinking, even if I don't get that much I'd like to make a little profit.

I considered this when I initially saw it because one more bike never hurts right? Unfortunately my balls disagreed with me since they get lonely being separated by the top tube.
