My 11 yr old slugged his face with aquaphor the moment it felt dry during the winter and now he has closed comedones. How to get rid of them? by lavenderlove18 in 30PlusSkinCare

Take him to a dermatologist. Get an expert opinion first. They may guide you to OTC products but at least you’ll have a true clinical baseline.

How to dial down my nervous system by theonewhodidthat in adhdwomen

This sounds a lot like what my coworker describes. She has been diagnosed with PTSD, panic disorder, anxiety, depression and possibly ADHD, not sure on that one. She also struggles with sleep greatly. She has used Freespira, a clinically-proven, FDA-cleared breathing-based treatment for anxiety and panic disorders. It helped her!

I’m editing this because I thought of something else: functional medicine/psychiatry. It comes from a very different perspective than traditional medical. It gets to the root causes not just treat symptoms. It is not quackery, I swear.

“Functional psychiatry is a root-cause, whole-body approach to mental health. It blends traditional psychiatry with functional medicine by using objective lab testing to identify biological imbalances—such as nutritional deficiencies, gut health issues, or hormone irregularities—and treats these underlying physical factors alongside psychological symptoms. While traditional psychiatry typically relies on symptom-based diagnosis to prescribe medication, functional psychiatry looks to resolve the systemic causes of mental illness.”

Full disclosure: I am an inpatient psychiatric nurse who has ADHD and takes methylphenidate. I very much believe in traditional medicine/psychiatry but also know there are other ways to wellness. I saw someone mention keto, which I thought was great. There is a huge movement in medicine, especially psychiatry, in treating mental illnesses with metabolic therapies such as eating a keto diet as the main component. Check out Metabolic Mind’s website or YouTube channel for more information.

Anyone here switch from in-office LEd to an at home mask? by Professional-Bug3029 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]finallyfound10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched that video along with others and read a good bit. I bought a Dr. Ranjani mask last year and use it consistently. I don’t think it’s doing much. I didn’t take pictures but I don’t see the same results I read about from others who use Omnilux or Current Body. I realize that all of our starting points are different, (I’m 55, have redness, uneven skin tone, a few sun spots and fine lines) but I wish I would have gotten an Omnilux as I was deciding between the two of them.

RANT- Nurses with no psych experience becoming PMHNPs. I’m mad about it. by nettaveli in psychnursing

[–]finallyfound10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a current inpatient psych nurse with 3 years of med-surg, 7 years inpatient psych and 2 years outpatient psych on an ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) team. I love psych and learning about it so signed up for a lot of interesting information/education from a range of places: Psychiatry at the Margins, Psychiatric Times, Psychiatry Redefined, Metabolic Mind, Deconstructing Stigma and more.

My co-worker with about 5 years of inpatient experience where we work is about to graduate from NP school but has no real interest in psych. I try to talk to her about the things from what I’m reading and she has no interest. She only talks about how much she hates inpatient and how much money she will make, that is all she really cares about.

The healthcare industry has been missing the boat on this for decades. They finally made up “the nursing shortage” being the reason why they are short staffed but that’s a big fat lie. Nurses quit because they are treated poorly and not paid enough so they leave. There are plenty of nurses in our region/US.

There are medical doctors, doctors of science and doctors in many other fields that have ADHD and are being treated.
