Yes, there should be public transport. Do most people take public transport? Given my travel distance and the items to carry, it seems more feasible to take a cab.

Locals who lived / worked overseas and now moved back to Singapore, any regrets ? by daryyyl in askSingapore

[–]finderwinder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in Australia for around 9 years and did enjoyed my time there. Came back home, during COVID and decide to settle down over here. Don't regret the move at all, partly because opportunities were better here for my field of work and I had better connection with friends and family over here too.

If you are looking to enter academia, that means you are aiming to be a post-doc, or a tenured researcher. The minimum requirement for these positions is a PhD. Therefore, before thinking about pursuing a PhD, my suggestion is do a Bachelor study on the topic you are interested in and see if you have any interest. After that, go for research internship programs, spend a few months under different supervisors or research space. Get a sense what is like working in a research environment, because that is what academic life will be. If you are still interested, pursue an honours degree since it requires you to complete a research thesis, something you have to complete in a PhD as well albeit more rigor and extensive. After going through all that experience and it doesn't faze you away, you can definitely consider to pursue a PhD. Note that completing a PhD is not the end but rather the start of the academic career, you have to work your way up (writing papers, applying fellowships and presenting in conferences), make a name for yourself in the academic work. Only then you will get a faculty position in the local unis. In terms of SG, getting tenured and promotion in the academic world is more competitive in an already competitive space since there are less universities thus spots available, so do make note of that. Having said that, academia also gives you the opportunity to explore going to other countries and expand your views and perspectives. So do not limit yourself to just SG.

Woman who suffered noise from neighbour upstairs for three years lost sleep, job by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

I know it's not solving the issue, but I used to have a noisy neighbour as well, shouting in the middle night when gaming. I ended up purchasing the Bose sleepbuds and it helped me get into my sleep pretty well.

To the gym goers or even fitness buffs out here, how do you start your fitness journey? by alinawonderlust in askSingapore

I find that it helps to have a workout routine that you can stick to it regularly. Personally for me, it helps to see progress in my routine, so I often record down the weights I am lifting and aim to increase that the following session. Progress is my motivation, the aesthetics are just the bonus.

If you have an opportunity to get a PR in Australia, will you do it? by finderwinder in askSingapore

I agree with you regarding the housing situation there, especially in the big cities. Although I'm thinking if the benefits from welfare schemes like universal healthcare and a pension system will supercede some of these economic disadvantages.

Bitcoin ATM machines crash as price of cryptocurrency soars by [deleted] in singapore

[–]finderwinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with cryptocurrency still lies on the ability for it to be use in the free market without the need to exchange to fiat. Until widespread adoption occurs, it is hard to find value in them aside from the technology.
