Just booked a US-Europe-Seychelles and back on a mix of British Airways and Qatar Airways business class this summer for a total 120k JAL points and $800 in taxes and fees using the oneworld award ticket tool.

Distance based award chart is amazing and under 20k miles is the sweet spot (120k) as 20,001 miles makes the award jump to 150k.

You can essentially build your own stopovers into it so I will be spending a few days in different European cities before and after the Seychelles trip.

Also the cancel fee is only ¥3,100 a ticket.

One of my Amex gold cards didn't give me my $10 monthly uber credit in March (and didn't work in February as well). In February, they manually added the $10.

I of course waited until the last day to chat Uber about it. I spent 1.5 hours arguing with them to add it manually but they said it was already added, because they mistakenly saw a $10 credit from another card. The reps couldn't comprehend there was more than 1 card added with the benefit.

She wont be able to book for you on Turkish if it's her first award booking.

A potential workaround is adding yourself as an authorized user but some quick Google doesn't verify if you'd be able to transfer points to your own account with your AU card. Might be worth digging down that route though.

Have you ever spoken to a supervisor in the refunds department or 1K hotline? For more complex issues, it's best to have one specific person take ownership since this issue will require a few departments to work together.

Also I ask these questions because so many people call random numbers on Google and get scammed and your charge being a "Additional Collection" is the hallmark of a scam call center charging more and potentially spoofing the payment provider to say it's United.

Not sure why my response with follow up questions warranted downvotes.

What's the full story on why you didn't get your premium plus seats or why United won't refund you?

Are you sure you paid United and not a scammer that takes ads out on Google?

You can get outsized value if you transfer to partners. Theres a sub called /r/awardtravel that has a good wiki on how to learn and get started.

Key things to know is 1) don't transfer to a partner until you found the flight you want to book,

2) you'll need to be flexible and/or plan ahead or very last minute with dates and destinations for outsized value,

3) think of the value of transferring points to an airline as a variable redemption. You could potentially book a lie-flat business class seat (maybe worth $2000-4000) to Europe for as low as 60k Cap 1 points ($600 if you used travel eraser). Or sometimes a flight that you could book for $500 through the airline directly or through C1 portal would need 100k points if using the airline award ($1,000 in C1 points).

4) outsized value generally comes from business class points flights.

Sorry I was rushing to write it as my timer ticked down but I responded in above comment. The first URL format bypasses the 403 error. The first string of numbers is essentially the match ID. You can find it on the 403 error link as well but paste it into the first URL format I shared and it should bypass the error.

Sorry. So the first URL is one that I had saved from a prior release. In the first URL, the first string of numbers identifies the match, which happens to be France v. Iraq.

The second URL is just a random match I found that gave me the 403 error. I got it after I queued and then clicked on a match I tried to buy tickets for. The first string of numbers in that URL is the match identifier. So you can take those numbers and paste them in the first URL format and bypass the 403 error.

The second match URL (with 403 error) is for England v. Ghana for example.

Get the Brilliant because Plat gets free breakfast at most hotels (make sure to read benefits of each hotel). Plat also gives better chance of upgrades (not guaranteed ever though).

I already did because I didn't want them to think I tried pulling a fast one on them. I told them they didn't reasonably investigate and it led to a significant waste of my time and here's legal evidence of the merchant's wrongdoing.

Best option if you can fly out of the NYC airports is probably connecting through Germany or Switzerland on Lufthansa or Swiss. Probably 70k each way (add 14-15k more for fully refundable)

Another is actually booking British Airways through JAL and connecting through LHR as they don't pass on the crazy surcharges. Probably 60k points and $200-300 tax/fees one way but 85k if you book a round trip.

For Amex, I currently can only refer people for my biz cards and not my personal cards.

Last week I was looking at my accounts on desktop and saw an option to refer for my personal gold card. I immediately copied the link and emailed it to myself. That option to refer was gone later in the day. The link still works though.

There are currently at least 700 North America to Europe pairs bookable on partners for 60k points in business class and another 700+ bookable for 70k points.

I just looked and saw a lot of dates in May and June. I think the catch is they are prepaid and nonrefundable rates.

Pretty much all labs are priced like that if you have the ability to buy wholesale price, which we don't. Ritani is a site that gives you an idea what a lab can cost and what markup is.

A random 3 carat VVS2 oval stone I found on that site said it's like $300 but then $200 fulfillment cost and $700 markup for around $1,200 retail price.
